Ephesians 4:11
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Jesus Christ is all five of these offices, as well as High Priest and King.
He is Apostle:
Hebrews 3:1
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
He is Prophet:
Matthew 13:57
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
He is Evangelist
Luke 4:18-19
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them thatare bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
He is Pastor:
John 10:14
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
He is Teacher:
John 3:2
2 The same came toJesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
When Jesus Christ Ascended up on high He gave gifts to His Church. The gifts He gave His Church was Himself. Without Christ His Church is nothing. When a person is born again and baptized into His Body (1 Cor. 12:13), it is Christ that now resides in the person by His Spirit.
If a person is called to render service to his King as an apostle, it is not the servant that is the apostle, it is Christ who resides in that servant that is the Apostle. If a person is called to render service to his King to the office of prophet, it is not the servant that is the prophet, but Christ in that servant who is the Prophet. If a person is called to render service to their King as evangelist, it is not that servant that is the evangelist, it is Christ in that servant that is the Evangelist. If a person is called to render service to their King as pastor, it is not the servant that is the pastor but Christ who resides in that servant that is the Pastor. If a person is called to render service to their King to the office of teacher, it is not the servant that is the teacher, but Christ who resides in that servant that is the Teacher. All these gifts to the Church are the Life of Jesus Christ in His people.
Each of these five gifts represent each of the five digits of the hand. The hand in the Old Testament represent "service," or "service rendered." These five gift ministries represent the Life of Jesus Christ in His Church.
Ephesians 4:7-11
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Without Christ we are nothing.
