The sin that kept the Jewish people out of the promised land was the sin of unbelief; God told them to go into the land and that He would drive the people there out with Hornets. But did they believe God? No and therefore God made them wonder in the dessert for 40 years.
Jesus came to Israel to be their Messiah and king and the proof was in the miracles/signs He performed which were indicated in the O.T prophesies. Did they believe Him?? No they didn't and God has set them aside and reached out to the Gentiles with His grace as preached by Paul.
God is still reaching out to the world, but the world is no longer listening. They would much rather have a religion based on their works in trying to live under the law than God's grace.
Just as in the past, the sin that condemns people today is the sin of unbelief, to not believe Jesus' shed blood on the cross has already paid for their sins
