Hello,

If Jesus arrived six days before the Passover at Bethany, what day of the week did he arrive? I would suggest that Jesus arrived at Bethany just after the Sun set on the Friday, our timeframe, and spent the Sabbath day in Bethany before riding the young colt into Jerusalem. The crowds waited for the sun to go down before they streamed out towards Bethany to see Jesus. Bethany was around a 15-minute walk from Jerusalem, so, Jesus rode the Colt towards Jerusalem and turned towards the Temple, entered it, looked around and then returned to Bethany to sleep in the house he was staying at.

The Last Supper occurred on the Wednesday evening, our time frame, which was Thursday with respect to the Jewish time frame. Jesus was arrested just before first light on the Thursday morning, brought before the High Priest, Pilate etc. and then taken out to the Hill where he was crucified by around 9:00 am, our time. Jesus died around 3:00 pm on the Thursday evening and was placed in the tomb before the sun set and the day ended.

I would suggest that Jesus died on the fifth day of the Jewish week, which is a Thursday with respect to our time frame.

Of course, all of this is relative to the time of the day in Jerusalem with respect to when the sun rose and set to define the start and finish of a day.

Shalom

Jesus and his men observed their Passover the night of his arrest. (Matt
26:17-20, Mark 14:12-17, and Luke 22:7-15)

The Jews observed theirs after he was dead and buried. (John 13:1-2, John
18:28, John 19:13-14, and John 19:31)

Whose calendar was right; Jesus or the Jews?

Assuming Jesus' religious calendar was correct, then according to its dating,
Jesus was crucified on the first day of the seven-day feast of Unleavened
Bread; which means the Jews unknowingly did the very thing they sought to
avoid.

Matt 26:3-5 . .Then the chief priests and the elders of the people
assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and
they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him. But not during the
feast-- they said --or there may be a riot among the people.

The Day of Debt: Friday or Wednesday? – Chuck Missler – Koinonia House Can you get 3 days and 3 nights from Friday evening to Sunday morning? Matthew 12:40

The crucifixion took place at approx. 3pm on the Friday before Passover!

John 19:31
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

Not only was that Sabbath a normal Sabbath, but because it was also Passove, it was a high Sabbath.

As for the three days and nights conundrum.

In Jewish reckoning, even to this day, any part of a day was considered the day. So Jesus died before sundown Friday-one day, was in the tombe from before sundown friday-through sundown saturday- two days, Rose again sometime after sundown saturday and sunrise sunday- 3 days.

It is uncommon to us, but a very common way of writing and understanding to the writers of SCripture.

I disagree. The events, the women buying spices and Jesus’ words 3 days and 3 nights just don’t fit the Friday model

Well they bought spices before sundown and don't take my word for it. Go find a Rabbi and ask him if three days and three nights can be conisdered Just part of those days.

Also discussion should end for John makes it clear that the next day was a sabbath!

And then specifies something specific about that particular saturday:

John 19:31

John 19:14 it was preparation day for the Passover not preparation for the weekly Sabbath but a high Sabbath

Wednesday would have put him up Saturday which makes sense because he was already up when the ladies came very early Sunday morning.
The Jewish day starts at sundown so Saturday night is the first day of the week

But that would mean teh resurrection was Saturday and not the first day of the week (Sunday) as SCriptures say.

To put this in modern colloquial English-- "that their bodies would not stay on the cross on Saturday, for that Saturday was a special day!

Saturday at sundown is Sunday to the Jews, the first day of the week.

I hear the confusion with the Catholics (and yes it was them who came up with these dates) is when they confuse the weekly preparation from the yearly one.

No one knows for certain. We just know it was the first day of the week.

How bad do you want to know? I can dig into it if you really want to know what I can come up with.
