In President Trump’s well-oiled machine, the vice-president had to find out via “fake news” the national security adviser lied to him, a hardly-vetted immigration order led to chaos and confusion quickly put on hold by the courts, and Sweden was added to the list of non-existent terrorist attacks.

Things were so well-oiled, Trump needed to defend himself by saying he had “inherited a mess” from Obama. It’s such a mess that Trump didn’t hesitate to take credit for it when the final economic reports of the Obama years were released.

The government’s January economic report said the economy added 227,000 jobs in January and unemployment was 4.8 percent, a level the Federal Reserve considers an indication of full employment.

When Obama took office January 2009, unemployment was 7.9 percent and, as a result of the financial crisis he inherited, rose to 10 percent later that year. It has steadily declined since then. Over the last five years, monthly job gains have averaged over 200,000, which the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco characterized as a strong pace relative to historical experience.

According to the report, wages are beginning to show signs of increasing as more jobs are opening up and the job market is tightening. The ratio of job openings to the number of unemployed looking for those openings was 1:3. In July of 2009, the ratio stood at 6:6.

The housing recovery is being driven by a strong labor market. Home building is up 10.5 percent compared to January 2016 and overall permits are outpacing housing starts, indicating continued rebound.

Manufacturing activity is increasing as well. According to the Philadelphia Federal Reserve’s January report, their index for manufacturing activity in their region has remained positive for six consecutive months and is now the highest since November 2014.

According to the Commerce Department’s January report, over the past years, total retails sales have risen 5.6 percent, which they conclude is likely a reflection of an improving job market.

The federal deficit in relation to the size of the economy did grow in fiscal year 2016, primarily due to a retroactive extension of tax breaks for corporation and individuals. But the increase to 2.9 percent of GDP from 2.5 percent in 2015 was the first increase after six straight years of decline.

There are plenty of “buts” associated with any economic report and this is no exception:

But the underemployment rate (9.1 percent, which includes those working part-time but seeking full-time employment) is still high by historic standards. But many of the new jobs are lower paying jobs. But wages didn’t increase as much as the Federal Reserve and many economists expected. But the affordable housing supply is still expected to shrink.

That being said, the economy Trump inherited is one in which the labor market is tight, housing and manufacturing are improving and wages are beginning to increase. Trump is inheriting an economy with one of the lowest jobless rates of any incoming president in modern times. Only Richard Nixon and George W. Bush took over with lower rates.

True to form, Trump, who previously called the unemployment rate a “hoax,” quickly tried to take credit for the positive economic data, attributing it to his election. However, the report was based on surveys conducted before he took office and reflected trends developing well before his election.

It reflects the economy Trump is inheriting. It’s not spectacular, but it’s stable and one economist generally characterized as getting stronger and worthy of optimism.

I don’t mean to gloss over the negatives. There’s still plenty to worry about in this economy. Having a job or better chances of getting one doesn’t eliminate anxiety over economic security. Income inequality and all that comes with it is still embedded. Retirement is still elusive for many, as is health care.

But the big picture economic reports show positive trends. The recovery was slow, but an economy that is near full employment and in the early stages of wage increases isn’t a bad hand-off. Instead of a mess, Trump has some economic coattails to ride.

Obama inherited a Great Recession. Trump inherited a primed pump.

Hi N2,
Most do not want the truth to get in the way. Of course Trump is going to take any and all credit...whether it is due him or not. I generally do not reply to political threads but, I see you have found some good info. But, you can bring a horse to water...
Good posts.

I do have to agree that as a man, I rate Trump pretty low (but I feel that way about most NY and NJ people). He is a person I would not associate with.

But I didn't vote for him to be a buddy. I voted for him for just what he is delivering. We are becoming great again.... something we haven't been in many a decade.
ah, yikes. This is the "we" you choose to associate yourself to? ok willie, but you cannot serve two masters, right

Manafort comes to mind.....so does Trump

But what about his diehard followers who seem to delight in his reckless disregard for laws and cultural norms?

An enemy of the state is a person who desires the end of the state - even those who have an ‘ends justify the mean’ moral code - wanting the end of America to bring about the return of Christ and the end of the world. Christian Zionism is attempting to do God’s work for him - bringing about prophecy, destroying the environment, electing a despot who crashes through all checks and balances and colludes with our enemies, and fear mongering - creating enemies and scapegoating.

Ismael would agree.

I am not a conspiracy theorist - this is happening before our eyes! I am also not a Nationalist - but I am patriotic. We are placing our country in danger and our environment in danger because we think we can control God’s timing.

This is frightening because we are going to destroy western culture and still be waiting for Christ’s return.
the State is the enemy, should be pretty clear from Scripture?
listen to them, and give them a king
1 Corinthians 15:24 Lexicon: then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.

i mean unless one is involved in the State Religion, (mithraist) "Christianity"

When in history were we great?
Any of the time when people were proud to be American. When even our last president's wife declares publicly that she has never been proud of our country until her husband became president, there is a real problem with the thinking of people who feel that way. I think it boils down to people WANTING to live in this great country, instead of trying to make it into a third world ghetto. America pretty much has remained a great country, but several administrations have convinced people they should be ashamed of it. Sort of like the push to make White people feel ashamed of their heritage. (Misery loves company.)

I believe it was Obama who made the statement that our jobs were gone to foreign nations, and lost to us forever. He even mocked, "What's Trump think he's going to do, Pick up the phone and get them back?"
That is EXACTLY what Trump did.

They have been planning it for decades. Dems knew it was going to happen and did nothing. RBG did a disservice to the country by not retiring after Obama’s first term. Of course, mcConnell was there to steal seats so who knows. Fact is, McConnell is totally gutting the power of the senate, because the next President is going to ignore him and seat who she wants when she wants to

The same thing is going on in Australia Willie.

The people who built this Nation from nothing are being ridiculed no end by people nowadays who are living in a fantasy world, because they have had it so easy, that they could never wake up to the reality of the facts that they of past generations had to truly endure.

Sadly the Satanic Socialist have been working at peddling a picture to dupe a generation into swallowing their half baked dribble as they never go into depth on any subject at all, it's all superficial shallow nonsense and the people who swallow such will never bother to look for themselves into any subject anyway. they just barely able to watch some TV documental show for 2hr let alone question it's substance, seen many a so called documentary Christian history gibberish that is full of half backed dribble just the same, only to have some goose claim to of watched the show and now claiming to be educated authority on the subject o_O:rolleyes::eek::(. some ignorant fool who is an proud Atheist comes to see me and sprout that they now to be enlightened authority on the subject, saying did you see that show ? yes I did bro and I have recorded it, do you want to come and I will go through it all with you, if you want and I will button hole the whole thing easy as pie if you want and the answer that comes back is No !
Why not! well ignorance is bliss.

Sure the whole thing is not a fairy story but the reality is that we don't live in a utopia and anyone who desires to live in a utopia would believe in fairy story's and not to mention all sorts of dribbling nonsense, of that I would not dismiss but to be sure to be sure, such would always turn out to be a total disaster. if their were ever a utopia no one lived to tell the tail, because they all did not survive.

I hate people making a mockery of my forefathers generations and bastardising them, when they themselves cant see past their own nose, it really gets on my goat to hear such ignorance insult people who were much more of a human being than they will ever be.

As a Black man,2 me it never was a time,it was us who built this Country,on free labor. Now you tell me who wouldn't be great if you had people working 4 free.Don't get me wrong,we are the greatest country in the history of mankind, even with everything done 2 my people.

So when the phrase comes up, make America great again, that's what I think about.

What I do know is God uses fools 2 ,and that's what trump is !!!!!!

You tell us 2 go back where we came from,I could tell you the same.

You talking about our former First Lady,is that the worst thing said, look up everything this Trump has said.Obama tried 2 talk 2 Kim,and what did Rebublicans say,bad Idea, yet when Trump does it,it's all good.

Bottom line it ALL shall happen as written!!!!!!!!

Oh what did the current first lady say,or you conveniently forgot????
