To know what the fruit is, we need to know what the tree is. It would help to know what the tree is not.
To make a difference between the unclean and the clean (Lev 11)
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Heb 5)
By Scriptures, we know how to make difference between good and evil: that which God calls good, and God calls evil. To know the difference between what is right with God and what is sin to God.
And we are to reject the evil, and to choose the good:
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. (Is 7)
And so, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is one that knows good and evil, but does not make difference between them, and so does not reject the evil, but chooses from both as equally good.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food.
One that knows both what is written as Scripture and what is written outside of Scripture, and both are believed equally as true of God.
