What is The Great Delusion?

Perhaps before one pontificates on what the "great delusion" is, one should figure out WHO the person is. If it's Obama, then we might have certain expectations, or if it's Trump we might have other expectations. Of course it's NEITHER of these -- although Obama has earned and received the most verbose personal curse in all of Scripture.

The point being, -- if you identify the ELEPHANT, then the blind guys might be able to associate each of their examinations and arrive to AN ELEPHANT.

It's not all your fault. We've allowed HIRELINGS to take over our churches and fellowships, and we've been manipulated into trusting them to deliver our Christianity. But Scripture states how the Church is SUPPOSED to be run:

1 Cor. 14:26 What then, brethren? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn; and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30 If a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first be silent.​

In virtually EVERY church (small "c") one person speaks week, after week, after week, after week, after week, after week, after week, -- well you get the idea. And the things which are "presented" are like a banquet where the only bowl on the table is broccoli, and it doesn't always come how most people prefer it, with salt, or butter, or salt and butter, or cheese, -- or on someone else's plate. And the ONLY participation I ever get is when I open my wallet.

So the church stumbles around in the dark, thinking that they are just fine picking whatever flower comes up along the path.

However, Christianity is serious business with serious consequences, and I doubt that any so called "christian" in this Forum has any clue that, -- per my best understanding --, we entered the 42 month tribulation a year ago when Trump recognized Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel. -- And there's no magical "Rapture" to protect us from that future time when we can't buy or sell, -- and the sleeping christians (small "c") will have their own "holocaust" just like the sleeping Jews had.

But you criticize me for telling non-thinking people to THINK, when we should ALL be THINKING PEOPLE.

So keep the tarnish off yourself AND the church so that all of our brightness shines. :)

in all my searching I've never found a definitive answer.

If I remember right, the literal is something like, God will give them a working of error that they will believe the lie.

There will be a particular lie. The original lie, you will be like God? His lie, that he is god?

Those are my best guesses.

Study Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14 where God is actually describing Lucifer's rebellion in coveting God's Throne. No flesh born man is an "anointed cherub that covereth" that was in God's Garden of Eden.

The sin in 2 Thess.2 that Paul was showing that Wicked one will do is the very sin that Lucifer did in his original rebellion against God. So how could the Bible student miss that?

Another important study on that is Ezekiel 16 where God speaks of Jerusalem, and having married her. This is why that man of sin will sit in the temple of God in Jerusalem, which Jesus foretold us about in Matthew 24:23-26.

So really, information about this coming event in Jerusalem is in many of both OT and NT Scriptures.

While this is interesting, how does it relate to the OP? What Moses saw was the exact opposite to delusion -- divine reality. To answer the question God's consuming fire only consume God's enemies.

My point is precisely that... That those not deluded will be those having Christ in the life... Christ in us, the hope of glory. That consuming fire, while it certainly consumes the enemies of God, also consumes the sin and evil habits in our lives. God is holy, and His presence makes us holy. Just like He made the bush holy, and the ground that Moses was standing on. And Mt Sinai when He stood upon that to give Moses the law, and the temple also holy, but only because of God's presence...and we are temples, and holy, but only if the spirit of Christ does indeed dwell within. The expulsion of all things impure and abominable will be vanquished by and in God's presence. The delusion is the opposite of this, or at least a great part of the delusion...that any man can have Christ within and continue to sin. The more of Christ...the less of us...the more of righteousness and holiness...the less of wickedness and depravity. This is real, experiential and practical Christianity. The gospel is not a lifeless theory.

I've heard lots of theories but none of them are what I think the great delusion is, but then I've never started a thread to specifically ask either! So I want to hear as many of you speak as want to answer. What do you think the great delusion will be/is? Curious if anyone has anything similar to my thought on it.

One other thing. If you find any OT vss that you think help your view of what the strong delusion could be, I'm very interested in hearing them.

I believe that the context of 2 Thessalonians 2 will reveal the nature of the 'strong delusion'; that we need go no further than this chapter to know what the Holy Spirit is referring to.

* In the margin of my Bible, I am told that the words, 'strong delusion' [G4106] should be understood as, 'a working of error', (as in Romans 1:27): however, looking at that reference, the whole of Romans chapter 1 & 2 is worth reading in the light of this I believe, though verse 27 itself translates the same Greek word, as, 'error' (ie., a wandering - wrong action - [G4106]). I believe that the 'error' or 'delusion' will be doctrinal, for those affected, will, 'believe a lie', because they received not a love of the Truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

* The contrast is shown in the verses that follow:-

'But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord,
.. because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation
.... through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
Whereunto He called you by our gospel,
.. to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Considering that this is a prophetic word, I don't see that it can be 'fixed': for it is the stating of something borne of God's foreknowledge isn't it? He knows that this will be the state of affairs at the time referred to, for He has foreseen it, and made it known through the ministry of Paul.

All that can be done really is to preach the gospel of the grace of God faithfully, and pray that God's perfect will, will be done in those who hear it, to the glory of His Name. Though I believe that apostasy is already here.

Interesting thoughts. No, I think that this is concerning the end time. For this epistle (2 Thessalonians) gives knowledge of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and of the resurrection of the dead.
