Drinking yourself to death is slow suicide. What edge exists? That your precious baby brother died?
How is that your responsibility?
Well, I suppose it isn't really. But when you're the older brother, you take on that responsibility. There's nothing I could have done to save him. I know this. But even so, I was his big bro, and I wasn't able to protect him.

Your baby brother is in a far better place than this world. He loved you then and as your blood sibling he is always with you.
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words, friend. :)

Would he want you to die an alcoholic? Would it make him happy to see you destroying yourself because,in part,he's gone?

I will hold you in my prayers.
No, he wouldn't.

Serving self rather than the Lord ends badly.
But we are here. We have to deal with the day to day stuff. As much as therr Lord suffered, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, he got to go home. But we don't. At least not right away. We have to deal with all of the suffering of life.

Is there no room for what we feel everyday?

Actual Christians are to abide IN Christ walking by faith and not by sight, emotions, or feelings

Walking in victory is what Jesus did when He lived in this dark sin filled world, and so should we. :gd
Even Jesus wept in gethsemane - he showed and felt emotions and asked that the cup be taken from him, but he was willing to do his father’s will. That night he was in an emotional battle.

Again, that was Jesus' mission to lay down His life unto death for the sins of the world.

PRIOR to that, and AFTER that, Jesus walked in absolute victory in every aspect of His life.

Christians should be doing the same! :gd

My post was more linked to your comment about always walking in victory, sorry but in that moment Jesus was being human - now we know he didn’t sin, so it is not sinful to battle with our emotions. When we give in and makes choices that is when it can cross a line , but even then it is not without redemption.
Jesus was also driven by compassion, grief at times, and with anger and frustration when he cleared the temple. Emotions are part of who we are, and who He was , situations impacted Jesus. We are not robots and unaffected by the circumstances that we may each find ourselves in, and often as not we come to faith with baggage that needs unpacking.
Jesus came alongside people, he talked to them and understood them.
Have a blessed night, it’s morning here so I have to go out xx

@Riven you’ve received considerable response to your thread, and from a variety of conflicting perspectives.

The question in my mind now, and probably in the minds of others, is what are you doing about it?

in that moment Jesus was being human

No, Jesus went to the Cross as God's Word come in the Flesh

If a human could have gone to the Cross then someone else could have gone instead of Jesus

Jesus had to surrender to death, as in willingly lay down and allow death to take Him as this was His mission

Jesus was also driven by compassion, grief at times, and with anger and frustration

And He never allowed that to cause him to sin or engage in worry, fear, anxiety

Have a blessed night

Yes, to walk in victory in ever part of our lives!

Yeah, it's all about us and what we want!
You never cease to amaze me with the depth of your simple mindedness. So every discussion you make is for others and not yourself. You have to be 12 years old otherwise this buffoonery of yours is shocking.
Some of it has to be. We're here, aren't we?
Precisely. That poster is special

Jesus was fully human. He went to the cross as a human. Tons of people were crucified before and after Jesus.

Ok, so why not share your testimony of breaking free from addiction, after all that’s what this thread is about. It may help Riven.
If you have never had an addiction of any kind personally then that will clearly give more understanding to your comments and , and I quote ‘ nuff said ‘ !!

Very few growing up in the 70s and 80s have not experienced drug addiction. I did.

And no, I'm not telling my testimony on a discussion forum so others can use it against me.

I have in actually face to face gatherings of people a few times. That's much different than the internet.

I learned a long time ago that telling a bunch of personal stuff on the internet causes problems.

I dont care. You're pompous and self absorbed. If you're the final result of what the god you believes in teaches, then i'd rather be an atheist. Thank God though I know you're just a twisted anomaly of what He actually teaches

That’s a shame, but I do actually understand. I was a teenager I the 1970’s, my youngest son is amazed that I never got it iced to use drugs, but they were just not part of my peer group ( I was fortunate ) I tried smoking but hated it, so I got a lucky escape there. My youngest came to faith three years ago and is in the process of breaking free from smoking, it’s been a bit of a battle but he is winning.
Thank you for your response

Man, I went round and round with those cigarettes back in the day. I was up to a couple of packs a day, sometimes more.

What did the trick was when I finally accepted that smoking is sinful behavior and I started asking the Lord to forgive me for sinning each time I smoked. And the Lord gave me revelation that He created my lungs to breathe AIR, not smoke (that's real deep  )

I could not keep sinning and remain in right standing with the Lord so I quit smoking.

Clean living is sooooooo much better than playing with sinful behavior.

Maybe someday you'll actually find out for yourself

Yes, he use to smoke quite a bit, but when he was 18 his toes started to go black and it turned out that the tobacco he was using had triggered small blood clots in his toes ( Buergers disease ) He was one angry teenager for ages ) He had a second bout a few years later as he just didn’t want to stop. At the time he was also drinking and borderline alcoholic ( he suffered with agrophobia and just used it to self medicate ) His older brother had a right go at him one night and it worked, he gave up drinking ( I was praying for him ) He then gave up smoking after reading a book by Alan Carr. Sadly a few years back things just got on top of him and he thought having a few cigarettes would not be a problem.
He is back on track now x

Well, intercessory prayer asking the Lord to make him miserable in his smoking is one thing to consider.

Asking the Lord to reveal unto Him that smoking is actually sinful behavior.
