Why Are Masks Triggering Conflict and Rage?

In a similar way, face masks are tied to the political conflict over our response to the coronavirus. Those who lean left politically tend to see the virus as a more dire threat; those on the right are more likely to downplay its seriousness or compare it to less deadly strains like the flu, often following the lead of conservative politicians.

Accordingly, masks may be seen as a marker of political loyalty, triggering feelings of us-versus-them. A politically liberal person may assume that someone wearing a mask is “on their team,” while those who don’t wear masks must be Fox News-watching Republicans. The anger they feel is not simply about the mask, but about believing the non-mask wearer is a certain type of person.

On the flip side, the politically conservative might interpret calls for masks as politically-driven efforts to play up the seriousness of the coronavirus. Being asked to don a mask then becomes not just a request to protect the health of others, but to give up their worldview and political allegiance. It may feel like asking a Red Sox fan to put on a Yankees jersey.

In Victoria, Australia, anti-maskers cop it from the police, politicians, the left and the right. ;)

But there are still some that are anti-maskers and there seems growing number (especially from the right, but there have also been a few from the left too) that believe in conspiracy theories about covid-19 in Australia. I think will say this is due to growing influence of right wing politicians including Trump, also right wing political commentators in the USA, they are having an influence not only in the US, but around the world.

For the left and right to be having a different attitude towards a pandemic, it shouldn't be happening, we are talking about people's lives, many have suffered from the pandemic.

This pandemic was politicized from day one and Trump was caught napping. But now he has absolutely no excuse for allowing CDC, NIH, Redfield, Fauci, and Birx to dictate policy, since they have all been outed. Today Tucker Carlson publicly called Fauci a fraud, and righrly so.

I see another aspect of what is showing itself, what people really consider important, themselves or others.
You would expect the world to be selfish, but what message is being shown by all the Christians who are equally revealing what really matters to them.
If I sit near someone on a bus and they choose not to wear a mask, and I do- it’s because I care about them but they feel no responsibility to me. Even if you believe that the mask achieves nothing, it won’t alter the message you are conveying. I would rather show I care.

What i see is a high level of cognitive dissonance. Everyone knows that there are experts being silenced for having dissenting opinions.
Everyone believed in freedom of speech 5 months ago, they should be questioning and condemning these actions.

aw com-on we like shooting messengers. anyway there's something to what your thinking for sure. if you notice dem's insist on masks because in the up and coming they want to be your health protection party. lib's are always tell others what to do with theirs for their good, its the communist way of infiltrating the communal property concept. which isn't evil if its in Russia or China but this is a capitalist society and "communal" applies only, if it interferes with the rights of the others. but health isn't a right under the constitution so, there's that.

sure one could say I might case you harm, but that could happen on the highway also, that doesn't mean we should stop driving does it? plus you could stay home and leave me go about my business without you involved.

so, why do I have to respect your fear of getting sick. no one is interfering with your right to wear a mask or hazmat suit or stay home and don't work and go bankrupt if you like in the name of your fears. but don't try and make me do it. this isn't supposed to be the land of the compliant and home of the afraid.

I think there's more to it than just left vs right and politics. The conflict and rage over masks is triggered by FEAR.

One side, FEAR that the virus is going to kill them, and they have no hope - their saviors have not come up with a cure yet - and they're angry that others would dare put them at risk (whether the mask is just a placebo or not). They see 'the others' as the reason the virus isn't under control, and the hatred is growing more.

On the other side, FEAR that our freedom's are being stripped away from us. A new world order that is taking over right now. A fear that people are being groomed to just accept without question what the authorities say when they can see numerous clear flaws in the statements been made by authorities and they fear people complying are only assisting this new world order.

It's a classic example of DIVIDE AND CONQUER. We are divided against ourselves.

And I suspect it's far more spiritual than natural, but people are being conditioned to see others as being less-than-human, or 'oxygen thieves' (as is becoming a very common phrase). More people are being conditioned to consider that 'the other side' is the enemy and are deserving of harm - (even as far as death in the end) - because they are dangerous to people's lives and/or freedom's.

Ask yourself this - how many people do you think would say "well, they got what they deserved" if a non-mask wearer got a virus and died? They're being conditioned to believe the lie that "the other side is what's wrong with the world, and with them gone, the world would be a better place", instead of realising the truth (that our fight is not against flesh or blood).

How many people see the "Karen's" as people with genuine hurt and concerns, even if they are lost and wrong about how they go about them? How many have pity on the "Karen's"? Nearly none. Instead they "hate" the Karen's, and hatred of the "Karen's" is being encouraged. Karen is not seen as a victim, or someone with mental heath issues that should be nurtured and helped... they're the enemy and if harm comes to them - most people would sadly applaud instead of be sadden. And you can flip that on it's head to see how the "Karen's" and other mask rebels see the other side as well.

I believe FEAR is the driving force for conflict and rage - on both sides.

For us as Christians - this needs to be about LOVE. Not fear, and certainly note hate.

Being transparent - from what I have observed most masks being used have little to zero biological filter capabilities. They're dust filters at best. I can go into many scientific and medical reasons why I believe this - but it's irrelevant because LOVE for Jesus means I desire to obey His commandments, and that includes submitting to authorities (unless they go against scripture).

Love towards other people mean wearing a mask if they have fear that is driving them towards insanity if I don't wear a mask.

Love towards "mask rebels" means hearing them out and showing that they - along with their concerns are important as well, and empathizing with their own fears on other matters.

But in the end showing them all where the true hope lies, and it's not in resisting the new world order that's taking place, or a virus cure that will only extend life - not truly save it (because we all are going to die).... it's about switching sides to an eternal kingdom and giving up this world.

May God help us to show love in a world where love is becoming less. May God help us to Shine the light of Christ in our own life through these times that become darker by each day - that He may be glorified!

Let's go back 100 years in America...

Penicillin was not in use yet. Tuberculosis, and Polio were pandemic. All were likely a death sentence. Polio- Over a half a million people were affected worldwide each year during the 1940's!

Tuberculosis- by the early 1900's, only had quarantine as a method. It dropped steadily with that method until antibiotics came into use after WWII.

I remember my mother telling me that in the 1930's, a student in High-School she knew was playing with a small folding knife and used it to scrape a zit. He died of an infection. Simply, before antibiotics, small things could kill you!

People used to have large families, because the odds were that several of them would never make it to 18, alone 30! It must have been terrifying to live then! Yet, they lived! They could do nothing to stop these things... it was part of life.

Perhaps we will just live and accept that COVID-19 or any new disease that comes along, just like our parents did.
