Why is Church so Boring?

Ok, my sister and I are going to a Methodist Church. My sister loves it, but it bores me to tears. I mean, could it kill these people to have modern music (loose the organ bub XD).Anyway, my sister is always shoving a hymnal in front of my face during the service (she treats me like a little kid in church even though I am 3 years older than her). I have to admit, hymns are boring. They put me to sleep. Why does church have to be so boring? Why can't it be exciting and fun? And another thing,Why am I the only 20 year old guy in this church (that isn't henpecked --- aka married).

I feel like all of us young guys are in a prison or something when we go to church (or a mall --- which ever comes first).Any Thoughts?(btw, this isn't a Methodist only thing. Every church in my town is this way)

I don't know about the churches in your area but I've visited a few that have been very "jumping" with new music etc

I can only answer for myself my problem is they do not teach me anything its the same ole thing I call fast food religion no meat just milk. Oh sometimes they put a differnt spin on it and talk about how it might apply in your life. But basically its the same ole, same ole. There is so much in Gods Word you could never learn it in a life time but they never get to it.

all I can say is that if you feel you're not feeling close to God, then try asking God to help you find another church...that's what I did, and He led me to a church that not only saved my life, but saved my faith as well.

Try your luck on a few Pentecostal churches. Don't be afraid from any Russian ones (Slavic is good).

I was talking to the original poster... Church doesn't have to be boring, Radd. If you need to, try and start your own bible study... if you really feel it's letting you down, I would suggest you do that. You never know how God may help you when you want to seek Him outfor me, I need church... I desperately need it in my life, and I don't find it in the least bit boring. In fact, the only day I truly find happiness is on Sunday when I go.and I think I remember something in the Bible about God commanding us to gather us in a place... if I'm remembering it correctly

The boring churches are the last decaying remnants of an older era.The ones that do not change will die out, as their members flock to the larger pentecostal ones.

kriss How can you say you are close to God but you don't need church?? We need to have fellowship with other christians and the place for that is a church.Also you can't do everything on your own sometimes teachings are the same but you can still learn something new from them everytime. If I could I would go to church everyday. I love learning on my own as well but sometimes a other person just says it a bit diffirently and it makes a light flicker on. God works through people.As to the topic, people were made different and thus we like different things including different churches I also like the more modern churches allot so just ask God to show you the right church for you.Maybe keep going with your sister it might be very important to her and going to church as a family is great. I found that if I didn't think of myself(boring to me) but thought of my mom it was not so boring and God uses it to let me grow and my relationship with my mother grow. I still go to the modern churches as often as I can and I try and go with my momGood luck I hope God shows you the right church and you experience Him fully

I recently (last 3 months) started going to the Salvation Army, thought I was going to hate it, but NO! They have a mixture of old and new and are almost charismatic. they live the Word Too, yesterday a homeless person came in they filled his flask up and made him a pile of sandwiches. Their social programs include Prison Ministry, The Homeless, Helping the aged, mission work, womens ministries, International Health sevices, International emergency services to name a few.It,s worth giving them a look you may find youself being pleasantly surprised I was.http://www.salvationarmy.org/ihq/www_sa.nsf

I don't know if church is supposed to be boring or not. I go to church to worship God, and to fellowship with brothers and sisters. That's all I care about.

Same thing for me. Once I became a christian it didn't take long before all the lessons in church just seemed so surface level and obvious.

God will lead you to a church to be fed at the level you are at with Him. I use to believe that you need to stay in the church with grandma, but sometimes you out grow little country churches. I had got to a place like others where I felt like it was the same ole sermon, when the scripture was read I felt like I already knew where he was going with it. God's word is full of richness, so many religions miss out, because they will not go deeper.God has lead me to a church and the pastor is trying to move it to the next level...I feel the shift will rock some people. There are a lot of people out there starving for real worship...just afraid to move with God.

I too have had many 'issues' with Churches - and the same sort of thing - boring recital of theological truths, also ones where people who really don't want to get to know new people, etc and I come out of these Churches feeling like it was a monumental waste of time...I have, however, since found a wonderful, small Church that is really hungry for God...and I am blessed to have found it...all as a result of prayer, asking the Lord to lead me to a Church worthy of Him.I reckon the problem that so many are having finding a Church can quite possibly be fit into the following categories somewhere:* We are so clearly living in the Laodcean age, the age that denotes a Lukewarm church....there is certainly a Christly, Godly church that runs parallel to the Laodicean, but I myself have experienced many of these laodicean churches....those where Church is more of an 'act', a social gathering rather than a meeting of likeminded believers coming together to worship and come to a greater understanding of Gods Truth. But there are real churches out there...hey I found one lol!* The fact that so many Christians are unfortunately focused on the Love and Grace of God, and neglect to understand that we are also told that we should 'fear' Him...By this, I do not mean quaking in your boots, but REVERENCE. I myself have witnessed (and at times been a participant) of Churches that really don't understand this....and when God is not reverenced, when he is not respected as WHO and WHAT He is, the Church will suffer...the most successful Churches I have ever seen are the ones that REVERE God, who treat Him as HOLY...not just as a 'best buddy'...

I will amen that! and add that a lot of churches have a form of godliness, but deny the power. God will lead us to the right church!

I found my old church was good but after about 30min's into the service I would find myself starting to feel strange. My heart would be racing, I felt like I had to get out of there right there and then. I guess you could say it was like a panic attack but why I was getting it I had no idea.Currently I don't attend church but I am looking at going to a different one near me so I will see how that goes.

A few pertinent facts...Most congregations are made up of 30% men and 70% women.90% of young men leave the church by the time they are 20.There are more believers who don't attend religious ceremonies than those who do. Only 1% of churches in the USA and Australia are growing.Most churches are not churches, they are religious social clubs.Most churches the Holy Spirit doesn't get a look in. You can't go to church because you are the church.The Kingdom of God is in you so wherever you are is the Kingdom of God. The standard hymn/prayer sandwich has been around for 500 years. The pentecostal songs/communion/preaching has been around for 100 years.The world has moved on, the church hasn't.Most churches are built on programmes.The NT church was built on relationships.Gathering together as the scripture says has nothing to do with going into a public building where you sit and look at the back of someone's head and watch half a dozen people perform on the platform. If you look at Acts 2 and other passages you will find that they gathered together in their homes, ate meals together, prayed for people to be saved, taught the apostles doctrine and made sure that everyone was cared for. They performed a few miracles along the way.If you want to experience true christianity, as opposed to religion find yourself a house church where you will have close and meaningful relationships that will help you grow as a believer and build the Kingdom of God and let me emphasise that you don't need programmes or hymns or rituals for this to happen.
