I think he is talking about the curse of the law in Deuteronomy 28 that falls on those who are disobedient; which includes poverty.

Paul must have missed his own memo there then. When he was stuck in prison, chained to the guards, all he would have had to do was demand God let him out and give him a fleet of chariots and a mansion. In fact all the apostles lived pretty crummy lives as far as their circumstances go. No word of faith preacher would have stood for that.

The promises of Deuteronomy 28 still stand, but they were understood only in the natural by the children of Israel during OT times. The NT writers understood them as having a spiritual fulfillment for spiritual Israel, who were still crossing through the desert on their way to the true Promised Land, which they would attain to in the next life (1 Corinthians 10:1-14).

That is an excellent point.

I do know that in 1 Corinthians 4, Paul wrote about how the recipients of the apostles ministry did not appear to have the same hardships as the apostles themselves.

Surely there must be some reason.

Opposition from the enemy, which was foreshadowed in the life of Job, whom Satan petitioned God for that his earthly blessings might be taken away from him. But Job just like the apostles proved faithful to God, praising Him in spite of the hardships they were allowed to endure.

For this their reward will be far greater in eternity, in keeping with Matthew 5:11-12.

After 30 years of attending church in Cessationist denominations, I learned the truth. It is true; the truth shall set you free. I realized that 1 Cor. 13:8 was not the completion of the Bible that no one but clergy could read, when I read to the bottom of the chapter and learned it was the second coming of Christ when we see Him face to face! EPIPHANY!!! But even then, it wasn't until the verse containing the true meaning of the truth shall set you free - freedom from sin, John 8:32-36, that I was baptized with the Holy Spirit. He doesn't give us the gifts of the Spirit until we repent from sin, and He empowers us first with death to sin, the born again of the Spirit experience.

The first supernatural thing that happened to me was my first answer to prayer. Imagine going to church for 30 years and NEVER receiving an answer to prayer. I was a closet unbeliever in God because we had no tangible relationship. I reasoned it would be better to believe in God, just in case He was real and there was eternal life, than to openly deny God and suffer the consequences. I think many Cessationists are in the same boat, which is why they are Cessationists in the first place. I heard one famous Cessationist say that if the gifts were real today, then he would have some of them. Another time I heard him again on the radio say, we can pray to God, but He only answers us through the Bible. It is obvious he never received a supernatural answer to prayer either. At least he could make money from his preaching; even if it was false. Why else choose that profession without a real relationship with God?

God's answer to prayer to me set off a chain of events in my life and within 2 weeks I started to question my unbelief, and repented. That repentance, exploded into seeing a vision from God, and then hearing His voice. Just one powerful word. It was as loud as thunder. It shocked me to my core. HE IS REAL! Then I just knew He was going to speak more, so I listened, and he spoke 8 sentences! They seared right through me, and my brain will never forget one word. Yes, I was baptized in the Spirit, and from then on I began to receive ALL He has for me, and it doesn't seem He is through yet.

Talk about a relationship with God - Wow! And people don't believe me when I say I am free from sin. Why would I when God is walking beside me step by step.

I used to listen to him a bit a very long time ago. But I just couldn't bear hearing the Faith Message over and over again. I do believe in a Faith Gift, but Faith Doctrine goes way over the top, insisting that Christians have the "magic key" to prosperity, or the "pin number" leading directly to getting anything we "claim" is ours.

People like Kenneth Copeland, and the many who have appeared on TBN, fail to see the Scriptural blueprint for the Christian experience in the present age. Yes, there can be some prosperity and blessing. But often, it is a matter of persecution and tribulation. And clearly, we cannot proclaim what we want and expect to get it, if, as James says, we determine to spend it on our carnal pleasures.

There is something about our Christian partnership with God in which we pursue what is best in the Kingdom of God. Sometimes that means we are blessed for our obedience. At other times we have to give up our rights and benefits, putting it off due to conditions on earth at present. We do suffer illnesses because of our proximity to sinners on this fallen earth. And we do have a sin nature ourselves, which needs to be tempered by the discipline of the Lord.

Much of this is unbalanced in the Prosperity Message, or the Faith Message. I think these teachers are real Christians, but I think their "gospel" is designed to flatter people that they are in charge and can get what they want. It tells people what they want to hear, that they are "God's elite," and have that special door accessing the treasure at the end of the rainbow, which of course is nowhere! ;)

Don't be too much of a scoffer, as God HATES those who mock. Psalms 1:1. Glean the truth about Faith and answered prayer, even if it is only taught by the Prosperity Movement. Their message is based on truth, and though it does need tweaking - basically recognizing it is the faith OF God, and not faith IN yourself that is key. But the three main things they teach that are correct that other denominations don't is:

God supernaturally answers prayer and supplies our needs.
Our words have power to bless or to curse.
Holiness.

You just called everyone mentioned in the New Testament "little men."

This is why Word of Faith and Prosperity teachings are dangerous in certain respects. There is a god complex going on within it that is disturbing.

Wonder why God blessed King Soloman and made him the richest man to ever live???

It's because he had chosen wisdom to rule the people. He did not chose wealth. So God blessed him with wisdom and everything he didn't ask God for, God gave him. Do the prosperity leaders ask the congregation to pray for wisdom or do they ask to support them financially so that they can over indulge themselves in financial blessing to get that extra private jet. Read your bible.

Did you know the Great Tribulation may start in two years? If you want to see proof of the whole church suffering and not just foreign, it will then.
