The devoes usually has some good stories too or reflects on how the people may have felt at the time. I like that
Sometimes they're really good and interesting and then I got others that felt like homework. :D

I took a peek at this one before I picked it and it seemed kind of fun and relaxed. I tried to make sure it was short. I can't remember but I think probably 500-750 word range. I don't know if you like Charles Stanley or not, or even know who he is since he usually is more popular with older people, but I am doing his Life Principles to Live By plan on my own.

He's up there on my favorites with Paul Washer and Shane Idleman.

I find if I make them public instead of private, setting, I feel more accountable. I don't want to do them because people watch, but I will set it that way if it helps me stay in the Word a bit more. The disciples were in twos for a reason. Believers suppose to help each other stay strong in His Word.

Read: Luke 10:38-40, Romans 5:6-8

"Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
Luke 10:38‭-‬40 NASB1995

"For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:6‭-‬8 NASB1995

Prayer: Father God, Thank you for sending your Son to take my place on the Cross. I’m so relieved that my righteousness comes from Him and has absolutely nothing to do with me or my accomplishments. I trust in that Perfect Sacrifice because of which I don’t need to be perfect. Amen

Thoughts: No questions, but the one that came to mind, is would you say you are a Martha or Mary? I can be both with a lean toward Martha personality. There has been a shift on the wind lately though, where I am finally just being able to lay at Jesus' feet and rest in Him, even with my decision making, and daily responsibilities/ministry. I want to remember and stay in the heart of worship, because Jesus said His yoke is easy and His burden is light. That I don't have to worry, I don't have to be perfect, I just have to trust Him and REST in Him. <3

I'm a Martha. LOL

That line "We subconsciously buy into the idea that we can earn God’s approval." I have spent years doing that and it was both good and bad. It was good because there was a LOT of learning that came out of it, but also negative because it involved a lot of feelings of rejection and disappointment when nothing came of it. (Which you know what I was hoping for.) It kind of feels like at times, if I'm honest, "What am I striving for? When is God going to actually do something?"

I gave up old friends, old family, social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc), television, old music. It doesn't sound like a lot but it was. And in order to get to this place for God to make me desperate, I had to lose everything from my firstborn, my first marriage, a house, sanity, etc. I went from being a solid loaf of cheddar cheese to crumbling feta. :rolleyes:I don't like feta, but it makes a good salad.

Mark 10:30 says, “But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”

So I put a lot of hope in that.

But eventually after you've become enough feta, and still it seems like things are just getting worse, it does wear you down to the point where all you can do is surrender. I have an issue with needing to feel at least a little bit in control, so surrender to me feels like drowning, or like giving up and just wanting to go to sleep until you stop waking up.

What I've learned from that is that TD Jakes lied and that's not always going to be the part where God shows up and does something and sometimes you can be stuck there for three or four years. You just can't lose confidence or faith, but Mary-like surrender is HARD.

If you study the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, in the cocoon stage, everything inside is completely broken down into goop. Thr eyes, the body, everything. But that is needed in order to transform into a completely new and beautiful creation, and I see this in what you describe here. :)

I like that. I feel very goopy. :D

Another one, learned long ago, is that it's the butterfly's struggle of pushing its way out of the cocoon that sends fluids into it's wings; thus, giving it the gift of flight.

Read:
Luke 10:40
Luke 12:6-7

But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
Luke 10:40 NASB1995

"Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows."
Luke 12:6‭-‬7 NASB1995

Thoughts: I am so very grateful God sees everything I do, even when others may not see. I don't have to earn His approval or anything. He loves me. I am glad I don't have to worry or anything. That He sees my worth. He knows everything about me.

Prayer:

Father God, Your word assures us that You see us. You perceive our thoughts from afar. How intimately you know us – and yet, amazingly, you love us, warts and all. Even if the world doesn’t recognize our work, we can rest in the knowledge that all our work is worship unto You. Amen

Read: Luke 10:39-41

John 15:1-7

She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;

Luke 10:39‭-‬41 NASB1995

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5 NASB1995

Thoughts: It is hard with kids to just "rest" .it isnt always saying yes. I used to say yes to everything and that did take time away from God I think. Now it is just learning to balance my devotions and kids, and hopefully raising them right. I know I raise them in Christ Jesus, so I have that going for them. But even with them, I just need to follow God's Word, rest in Him, and just give things to Him.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you today for the example of Mary who knew that the best place to be was at the feet of Jesus. Help me, God, to let go of needing to control people and situations. Help me abide in You and know that in my weakness Your strength is made perfect. Amen

Luke 10:39

She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.
Luke 10:39 NASB1995

Galations 1:10

For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
Galatians 1:10 NASB1995

Devo Prayer: Heavenly Father, Sometimes, I know that I get all flustered and high-strung because I’m focused on others’ expectation or opinions of me. Help me, instead, to focus on You. To allow You alone to fill my vision and to delight myself in You. I know there is abiding peace in living for an Audience of One. Amen

Thoughts: The devotional pointed out this was the same Mary who broke a bottle of perfume worth thousands of dollars, and poured it on Jesus feet despite what anyone else thought. Mary has such an extravagant love for Christ Jesus, I love how the devo worded it. Everyone else was eclipsed out. She only listened and abided in Christ's love. Some reason, making me cry this morning. Because I love God so much. But I do get caught up in what other people think too when it comes to disagreements in what I should and should not do. But that perfume is for Jesus feet. And I just want to rest at His feet and worship Him. I am sold out for Christ, and more and more His is the only opinion that matters.

Luke 10:39
John 10: 27-30

"She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word."
Luke 10:39 NASB1995

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand."
John 10:27‭-‬29 NASB1995

Prayer: Lord, there are so many things in my day that clamor for my attention. Sometimes, the din is overwhelming. Sometimes, though, the noise is from within me – a cluttered mind drowning out Your voice. Help me to listen for Your whispers. I need You, Oh I need You. Amen

Thoughts: This is a very good devotional. I love how it talks about listening, what that means, and the distractions that can sometimes keeps us from listening. Mine tend to be more inside of my head then outside distractions. To take my thoughts captive and stay focused on what Christ has to say takes much effort, but is worth that effort. It has gotten easier since I have prayed more this way.

Btw, interesting fact. There are two accounts that may be different in the Bible of the woman pouring perfume on Jesus' feet. And the Mary in that one account was not the Mary who Jesus cast devils out of. I was surpised to learn this today.

Scriptures: Luke 10:41
Matthew 11:28-30

"The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.”
Luke 10:41‭-‬42 MSG

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 MSG

Thoughts: I love in essence, how God was telling Martha to come to Him and sit at His feet. That is a really good thought. Martha's work ethic was a good thing. Just the important thing is resting and abiding in Christ in everything we do.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the open door of prayer always set before me. Thank You for the invitation to lay my burdens at Your feet. Help me to always remember and value that invitation. I don’t have to do this on my own. What a relief! What a friend we have in Jesus! Amen

Scriptures:

Luke 10:42
Colossians 3:22-24

"but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:42 NIV

"Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Colossians 3:22‭-‬24 NIV

Thoughts: I a bit went ouch at that devotional. Why do I have to go back and "relearn things" it seems? It is easy to drift and get busy. I have over and over not prioritized God first and get busy for whatever reason, kids being the latest reason...but Mary chose what is important. If I am to teach my kids what is important, I need to put God first even above them. My pastor has been teaching on this somewhat also. Transformation doesn't involve going backwards. Many Christians don't even get to the cocoon stage. They just eat, eat, eat and get fatter and fatter. LOL. But we need to know the Word so that it can transform us. And when we drift, you sort of forget. And sometimes it does have to do with what church you go to. How you are taught. My eyes have really been opened a lot in this past year. I thought I was "there" spiritually, but once you stop resting at Christ's feet and think you have "arrived" you stop growing. I showed this in my actions, not really thought that way. God pushes us on. There is so so so much more everyday in Christ. What pastor says. Repetition causes Revelation. I will prioritize right from now on and give God all the glory. I know the feelingz about the Message, but as a preschool teacher, I really respect this verse and it speaks to me a lot this way:

1613396294757.png

Prayer: Gracious God, I marvel at the fact that You’re never too busy for me. Scripture says that Your ear is inclined toward me. Help me realize that being too busy to spend time with You actually depletes me and drains me of life and energy. Help me, Father, to always prioritize time with you. Amen

Luke 10:42
Ephesians 2:10

1613487882390.png

Thought: I am very grateful that God's opinions of me are what matter. God can deal with other peoples' needs while I rest at Jesus feet and He meets my needs. I learn so much from others, but at the end of the day, I get my leading and direction from God and no other. When I ask God to teach me and help me, then I have peace of mind daily.

Prayer: Father, let me not function blindly under the false assumption that I have to multitask and be all things to all people in order to matter. Help me quieten my heart so I can hear Your voice saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” Help me thrive in the fullness of life You have for me. Help me not to confuse that with a full life. Amen

Last day for "finding rest in a busy world devotional"

Luke 10:42
Psalm 27:4

A prayer from Psalm 27: 4:

One thing I ask of the Lord. This is what I seek. That I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever. To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and behold Him in His temple.

Prayer
: Father God, remind me today that only one thing is needed - and His name is Jesus. Help me to pursue Him. Help me love Him more completely. But, first, help me bask in His lavish, extravagant love for me. My soul finds rest in God alone. In Jesus name, Amen

Thoughts: Song in my head. This is my desire to worship you. All I have within me is yours...

I desire to put God first and allow myself to find rest in Him. I love the quote from Martin Luthet that he was so busy, he planned to pray for three hours that day. This is a good attitude to have.

So Easter is coming up next month.and I was invited by some friends from church to do this study, "Experiencing Jesus through Lent 40 Days together" on youversion.

I am not Catholic, but giving something up for God and focusing on what He did for us is something I am all for. So I will share the scripture/prayer/questions here at least. If anyone wants to join, I will check to see if you can be added, whoever the host is. I haven't checked. There are two others I know.

My idea for me is to do 20 minutes intentional prayer a day for 40 days. I usually pray without ceasing, but want to become more specific in my prayers. Take my prayer life deeper. So this is giving up phone to or whatever during prayer time. Including cartoons for the kids...I usually keep the tv on for them, but want to show them this is important also.

I want to find a devotional on prayer I can do alongside with this.

40 Days Experiencing Jesus through Lent:

Day 1:
Scripture:
“I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection of the dead.” Philippians 3:10-11 NIV

Reflection:

In what area of your life do you want to know Jesus and abide in Him more fully?

------I want to put into action resting at Jesus feet by becoming more intentional in my prayer life and in studying God's Word. I have drifted after having kids and other things and am getting back to this now.

Praise + Prayer:
I want to know You more, Jesus! I don’t want to keep You out of any area of my life. Instead, I want to know You in every single part of my life…good days and days where I am suffering. Help me trust and abide in You, knowing that Your death and resurrection life both save and sustain me. Thank you. Amen!
