Eating black eyed peas is not frowned upon by God so stop stating it without the disclaimer of "if done in a superstitious belief to bring good luck for the next year".

So I see you DO know and understand what it is I have been saying!

Now if you know and understand this, which is what your statement suggest, then you also realize there are other laws (other than just the 10) that God commands in the OT we are yet to obey!

So if FOOD is used as a charm, somthing that is to bring 'good luck', then we are NOT to participate!
If you really believe this then you are terribly bound by superstition. Christians are not bound by such. We are not bound by the Law of Moses nor by superstitious beliefs.

Are you really just not getting it or what?

I do NOT believe that eating certain foods will bring good luck or ANY type of superstitions! Christians should not engage in such activities. The only one they are to depend upon for ALL of their blessing is God!

But yet there are some 'christians' that will cook and eat certain foods on New Years day, hoping, by doing so, good luck will come their way!

Thus, the purpose of this lesson.

No, not because of what the Old Testament says.
I believe that God is a Sovereign God whose will is carried out. Superstitions ("If I do this, this good luck will happen") minimizes God. For THAT reason is why these are bad, not because of some OT law.

So then, are you saying it is sin or not? Yes I get it, more dietary stuff.

So then, are you saying it is sin or not? Yes I get it, more dietary stuff.

What most people do not understand is that once God says, "Thou shall...", or "Thou shall not..." it is a law/commandment!

So.....is it a sin? Let's read God's word to find out what is sin;

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."

So to answer your question according to God's holy word, Yes! It is a sin.

But is it a sin for everybody? Let's read....

James 4
[17] Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

As I have said throughout this lesson, there are some that have been doing these traditions for a lifetime and are totally unaware of the fact that what they are doing is using charms.

Then, there are others that consume such foods for the sole purpose of trying to increase their luck!

Now if someone knows that doing such activities is a superstition, but yet confess to believe in God's word, then to them it is a sin.

On the other hand, if you have no idea why or what you are doing is wrong, how can you be held accountable?

This lesson to to let those that confess to believe in God's word, and are yet doing these things to increase their luck is wrong and they should not participate;

"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

You haven't yet shown us any dietary restrictions in the NT. Did you miss my question, which Covenant are you under? Christians are under the New, not the Law of Moses.

No, it's not. Placing faith in something other than God (idolatry) is a sin.

OK.....if you do not believe it is a sin then sobeit. Who am I to change minds? My only job is to say what thus saith the Lord!

You can accept it or not!

This is the covenant I am under....

"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:"

"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;"

Now a question for a question;

What does God's word say was at fault?

What I said was the Word of the Lord...

You'll find everything, and I mean everything, that is sin in our lives stems from idolatry, the elevation of self and things for self.

Adam and Eve were seeking to become God, it's self-seeking elevation of self above God: idolatry.
The rich man valued money about God: idolatry.
Premarital sex is placing your law above His regarding it: idolatry.
Eating peas because you believe it can do something God can't: idolatry.

You'll find ALL of his Laws have to do with this, and ALL of his laws are for our enjoyment, and ALL of his laws bring him Glory.
They all deal with this. Owning gold isn't bad, crafting it into a statue for worship is.
Eating food isn't bad. Turning it into your own righteous salvation is.
Eating peas isn't bad. Turning them into something greater than God is.

etc
etc
etc
etc

There's nothing in creation that's bad. In fact, God calls it good. It's how we USE and ABUSE that creation that's bad.

"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;"

And this is the Covenant Christians are under:

1 Timothy 4:1-5 (NKJV)
[sup]1 [/sup]Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, [sup]2 [/sup]speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, [sup]3 [/sup]forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. [sup]4 [/sup]For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; [sup]5 [/sup]for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Now a question for a question;

What does God's word say was at fault?
So tell us.

This is where you answer. And for those readers following this lesson, feel free to search God's word for yourselves and find the answer. God's word says was at fault, and the answer is not far from the verse I posted previously.....

"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:"

Hint: Was the fault with the laws or something else?

Never seen or tasted black eyed peas !!!!! Lol
I love cabbage though X
It took me awhile to realise how old this thread was - I guess it would be interesting to think about why we do things , I mean how many times do we go through the motions with traditions and customs and never really think about why we are doing them, or why they originally were started and question whether or not they are right to continue. I don't think we are doing things supersticiously, but we often do things because we feel we can't opt out- for example giving gifts at Christmas, sending cards, putting up a tree ect...... How much money do we spend out of obligation !!
What's the inner pull to conform, fear of being judged, thought badly of, guilt ect ect
Last year , as a family , we were only going to buy certain people gifts because of the finances, all of us struggled to actually do that because of what we would normally have done.
I think it is good to question things and reflect on what's pulling our strings !!
