Acts 2:38 has been abandoned by Christianity

So has sacrificing Bulls and Goats.....When God Transitions from one method of Obtaining His Holy Spirit ( Repentance and water baptism , which was preached Truthfully by Peter in his time and place) , to another one ( Believing ONLY, which was later preached by Paul after Jesus TOLD HIM to preach it) .....when THAT happens , you go with the most Recent Plan.....Only to Paul were “ The Mysteries Of God” revealed.....”Mysteries” that even Jesus never discussed with His Disciples.....Go with the Guy with the most Truth who has the Latest “ Marching Orders” ——- PAUL

The 12 apostles didn't know that God had granted salvation to Gentiles until Cornelius and his household were saved, the Jews were shocked when they seen it. They believed only a Jew could be saved.

But Paul already knew it from the revelation you mentioned. Best advise I've seen on this forum. As Paul said, "follow me as I follow Christ."

The Philippians Jailer asked—— “ What must I do to be Saved?” ......the reply from Paul ? “ BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be Saved” If Water Baptism is the “ end all and be all” of Salvation, I wonder why Paul made * NO MENTION” of it.....I wonder how many “ incompletely Taught people” are in hell today because of Paul’s “ Faulty” Answer for this man....Foolish me—- i thought Paul had brains enough to give this sincere Seeker all the information That he needed to get Saved....I guess Paul got a kick out of holding back information that could determine a man’s Eternal Fate....How on Earth did he sleep at night ?

Great post! It clearly points out truther's single-minded doctrine based on one verse.

You have been unknowingly living a life “ Severed from Christ” and you have “ Fallen From Grace “ By ADDing to Paul’s Gospel Of Faith in His Gospel Plus NOTHING in order to get Saved....You have never read Beyond Acts2:38 so this is probably all News to you....Read Galatians and discover your true status before God as you teach a False and Perverted “ Gospel” That makes you “ Accursed.....and you had better pray to God that “ falling from Grace” does not equate to being damned......because you * Are * Fallen From Grace......and I would wager that you don’t even know what it means ....Read Gal 5....

Also brush up on Gal1:8 ......it reveals the Fate of those that Teach a different Gospel than what Paul did.....His Gospel never even mentions Water Baptism and he even goes on to say that he “ Was NOT sent to Baptize” .....don’t you think that is strange? He wanted to get people Saved and he made a choice....go around baptizing people with Water or giving them the Gospel that lead to the only baptism that Counted fir Salvation—— Being *BAPTIZED* into *The Body Of Christ*..... if you don't have “THAT” Baptism , all the water at Niagara Falls ain't gonna do you any good!

Another great post! I doubt you'll get anywhere with "truther".

Let's examine this...

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
[31] And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
[32] And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
[33] And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

God's word is consistent.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

..Acts 2:38- "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost"

I haven't been water-baptised because it simply never crossed my mind to do so, but if it makes people feel closer to God, good for them..:)
But they shouldn't then think "Yippee I'm saved and home free" and drop their guard against satan, or he'll have them for breakfast.
They should remember that there's no cast-iron guarantee that comes with baptism-
"The holy spirit hadn't come upon the Samaritans as they'd simply been baptised" (Acts of the Apostles 8:15-16)

No one is denying the necessity of water baptism, the argument is the purpose of it.

It's plain to see here that water baptism had no role in the initial salvation of the jailer and his house.

The apostles water baptized immediately after the acceptance of Christ as Saviour. If you didn't obey Christ in water baptism, according to the apostles, you never accepted Christ as Saviour.

The purpose was to show your acceptance of Christ in water baptism in symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection in Christ.

Water baptism is the literal symbol of the spiritual salvation of the soul.

I replied to BloodBought's post to me, which stated the following...

"the reply from Paul ? “ BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be Saved” If Water Baptism is the “ end all and be all” of Salvation, I wonder why Paul made * NO MENTION” of it"

I proved him to be in error with the following examination of that scripture...

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
[31] And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

BloodBought had stopped here. But if we continue, this is revealed...

[32] And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
[33] And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

In preaching Jesus, water baptism is preached. Here is another example...

Acts 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
[35] Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
[36] And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:31 (above) contradicts your tiresome repetition: And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

It doesn't say anything about baptism, does it? Acts 2:30-31, "Then he brought them outside and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved? They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Straight forward!!!

The question from the jailer was, "what must I do to be saved."

The answer from Paul, "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved."

When "they spoke unto him the Word of the Lord," that was the Gospel that they gave him. How that Christ died for his sin and was buried, and rose from the dead.

That is when he believed the Gospel and was saved.

Then he was baptized in water to show in water what had just happened in his heart, that being his death, burial, and resurrection in Christ.

The spiritual and actual saving of the soul is when one believes in Christ, that is a spiritual act when the Holy Spirit spiritually baptizes you into Christ. The water baptism is the visual reenactment of that salvation that took place in your heart through faith.

Great post; entirely correct! I doubt you'll be able to convince "user" of this, since his mind is focused on one verse only. Perhaps some day his spiritual eyes will be opened to the truth, though I have my doubts.

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:16).

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. . ." (Acts 2:38).

We've gone over that! It does not agree with the rest of scripture.

Paul, John, and James never mention water baptism for the remission of sins.

In Acts 10, Peter plainly says the same as Paul, John and James.

Acts 10:43

"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.'

There is a problem with Acts 2:38! Most widely believed is that it was a translator misinterpretation, and purposely.

It should have been translated "because of" rather that "for" the remission of sins. Both are Greek prepositions and could have been used, but with the opposite meaning. The translators were not dumb to this, they knew the difference.

There is always hope that he will begin a thorough study to see what we speak is truth.

The following is an excerpt from that excellent article that is found in “ Got Questions”

The fact that baptism is not required to receive forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit should also be evident by simply READING A LITTLE FARTHER in the book of Acts.

Lol.....the section that I capitalized stuck out to me like a sore thumb! It’s what I have been advising this “ Gospel Skipper” all along.....Ya Gotta Read the Entire Book!
