...... came into Christianity already tattooed

@Mantis Yes, and although it's not strictly necessary at all it can be very widely regarded as something that simply makes people quietly more confident and distinguished.

I saw these comments:

FHII said:
Probably 75% of the congregation have tattoos, including myself and the Pastor .. I have a tattoo, I am not ashamed of it, but it has no bearing on my salvation. ..I also agree that it makes a statement of freedom in Christ. .. We got a lot of folks inked in our Church. Myself, the Pastor, his daughter and grand daughter included. Now, even my wife

@devin553344 Thanks for your poll vote just now.

FYI: It's interesting that some ppl get into tattooing work because it simply fits their economic circumstances. I saw this quote:

Paula Castle took up tattooing after being made redundant from a sales job ..."I really did not want to do it. ...But I’m a bit of an all or nothing person so I said ‘yes’ and really pushed myself and I’ve not stopped...About 97% of my clients are female and that is universal across the board."

So this is an angle that might cause some reflection: if a Christian daughter or son of yours worked as a tattoo artist, would you be supportive of the fact?

(Aspects which might be relevant: witness opportunities in faith based designs; sought-after skill outlet; whether or not someone somewhere would be offended influencing whether s/he did it at all, etc. ...)

Thoughts?
I would not be supportive and would hope that I raised them to fulfill a meaningful duty in life. I don't see entertainment as productive for society as you can't eat or drink it and it doesn't drive you to a destination or connect you with loved one's like a cell phone. Entertainment doesn't provide a roof over your head like the construction industry. It doesn't take care of the ill except to cheer them up perhaps. Which is nice I supposed. But in all honesty I don't see tattoos as necessary or provide some vital role in society. Entertainers can however cheer up troops perhaps and society. But often the entertainment ends up ungodly

I also think that people want tattoos in unmodest places, and I wouldn't want my children to be exposed to things that are contrary to biblical teachings.

And while I have one tattoo. I wouldn't get another one. My tattoo has meaning. But it's on my shoulder. It symbolizes a once in a lifetime commitment.

Would the Lord want you to tattoo scripture onto your body? I'll leave that answer to everyone individually.

I do have a good idea for a tattoo from scripture. I suppose if I was homeless again I might want the sheep and goats tattood on my arm. "I was hungry and you fed me". But then I suppose you could just write it on a sign and skip the tattoo and hold it in front of passing cars.

And I say that for some little humor to lighten up from my sincere post regarding my desire for my children.

@devin553344 Thank-you for your various, thoughtful comments.

Appreciated. (And of course for your poll vote participation.)

What I was also wondering was, If - as the quote about about Paula Castle, above, shows - that economic circumstances might point a talented artistic son or daughter towards work as a tattoo artist, would you (hypothetically, of course) still strongly argue against it, especially since you have used a tattoo artist yourself?

(I like the thorough way you seem to approach questions.)

I love my children in whatever they do. I might not love what they do though.

@devin553344 Thanks indeed for your comments.

My wife and I a while ago talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it turned out that it was her favorite Bible verse - as mine also. She seemed a quiet, modest young lady. The John 3.16 design gave rise to our conversation and I reckon it would have had that effect repeatedly, not least among other young ppl; possibly this was her motive all along. If so, I can well imagine that she would have gone to use the tattoo parlor joyfully.

Like I said, she seemed a quiet, modest young lady. As GodsGrace said:
almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them for witness tool reasons.

On this thoughtful topic again, having it done seems to have become a way for so many Christians to express what they deeply care about.

So with such widespread practice among Christians, I guess the matter of whether a talented Christian young person might be willing to give as well as receive ink is kind of related, I suppose (if this makes any logical sense?)

Wouldn't know, the congregations I've attended don't support tattoos as far as I know. And one of them discouraged it. And just because Christians are doing it doesn't make it right. Some are embracing homosexuals, and that doesn't make it right either unless they teach them that it isn't right. That much we can learn from reading the scriptures. I got my tattoo before I was a born again Christian. But what does the bible say about it? Perhaps we should follow that teaching:

Leviticus 19:28
28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

@devin553344 Thanks for your post; that passage in Leviticus also says about not marring the corners of beards; do preachers shave? if they do, then maybe they are backhandedly admitting that they are NT Christians under grace and seeking testimony opportunities, rather than OT Jews with bush beards in the land under the law. I think it's also significant that Hebrews 7.12 says that the law was changed and Hebrews 7.19 says that what we now have is better than the law.

Cool, there are also 14 Bible verses regarding tattoos and I only posted one of them: 14 Bible Verses About Body Tattoos (KJV) - RANKED

@Michiah-Imla Thanks for the 'like'; I thought that the quote about tattoo artist Paula Castle, who had not originally wanted to pursue the profession but for economic reasons followed it, was interesting.

@Heart2Soul reminded us a while ago that getting tattooed
is becoming a norm with health professionals
.

To refer to just three posters - GodsGrace, Rita and Heavenhome - the fact that it's a vastly sought after service is surely not irrelevant to this thread's poll question:

GodsGrace said:

Rita said
I felt good about it. ..I was 50 when I had mine done, and two of my sons had various tattoos long before me..I had weighed everything up , talked to my pastor, reflected on scripture

Heavenhome
My dear Dad had two tattoos but that was from his navy days.
I have noticed however that lots of young girls have them and what is really noticeable is a huge amount are women say around their sixties .
