Psalms 87:1-7 KJV
1) A Psalm or Song for the sons of Korah. His foundation is in the holy mountains.
2) The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3) Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
4) I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.
5) And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.
6) The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.
7) As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.
The born-again are born of heavenly Zion....they are written up in the book of life....all our springs, our life source, are in heavenly Zion.
Shall establish Zion . . . Yes, speaking of God establishing His church/body/heavenly city/kingdom, once the messiah comes.
Heavenly Zion or Earthly Zion? Speaking of both in the passage below. Biblical principle of first the physical, then the natural. Physical Jerusalem/Zion is a type/shadow of the heavenly/spiritual city.
Isaiah 66:5-13 KJV
5) Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.
6) A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompence to his enemies.
7) Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.
This part above is prophesying of when Israel/Jersusalem would persecute Jesus and the newly born church/saints and of God then judging her (which happened in 70AD).
8) Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
9) Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.
Jesus was physically born of the Jews, and under the Law....so physical Jerusalem....but spiritually was sent from heaven (2nd Adam is the Lord from heaven), the first-born of many brethren....all of us who are born again are born from heavenly Zion, not physical Jerusalem as such. The mostly Gentile church is the nation bearing the fruits of the gospel, when Israel/Jerusalem mostly rejected it.
10) Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her: Rejoicing in heavenly Zion and salvation, but mourning for physical Zion in her destruction.
11) That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.
12) For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.
13) As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
Milking out of city that is above who is our mother...because all our springs are in heavenly Zion, our life source of the Spirit and true doctrine. Speaking of the glory of heavenly Zion and being comforted and consoled by her, ie, by the Holy Spirit. It is not a literal geographical place but is metaphorically speaking of the heavenly realm, the kingdom of God, where our true citizenship is, being not of this world even though in it. The kingdom that is here within/among us even while we walk the earth. A heavenly spiritual realm/city.
Much love!
