Not everything was a law. There were statutes, decrees, and ordinances. We are only concerned with the commandments - the law.
Show me your tassels. - LOL
As binding as the Sabbath law. Read the context of the scripture below.

Numbers 15:37-39 NIV
The Lord said to Moses,
38 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them:
‘Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel.
39 You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes.

Galatians 3:24 - Therefore, the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Jesus said he did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17).

And Jesus did fulfill the Law, and removed it from the Born again.

"Christ is the END of the LAW for righteousness..... for everyone who Believes".

The born again are "not under the LAW, but under GRACE".

The law is a ministration of death, 2 Corinthians 3:7, for those who believe that they will be saved and justified by the law or their religion.
I like to add some context.
Assuming that the Ten Commandments were "engraved in letters on stone"...
They are the transitory ministry of condemnation and death that has no glory now.
Other than that... totally awesome. - LOL
The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

2 Cor. 3:6-11 NIV
He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—
not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7 Now if the ministry that brought death,
which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory,
so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses
because of its glory, transitory though it was,
8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?
9 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious,
how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
10 For what was glorious has no glory now
in comparison with the surpassing glory.
11 And if what was transitory came with glory,
how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

Could do this for some time... (love to bash the law)

Hebrews 8:7, 13 NIV
7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. ...
13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.

Yes; "statutes, decrees, and ordinances"... Thank you for reminding me.

How many are serving a dead religion of laws, rules and religion? And have rejected the New Covenant of grace and the Gospel?

Ask any Christian whether they approve of idolatry and they will say, "No!"
But look at what we have made for idols?

Ask them whether idols were made from wood. "Yes!"
And what are books made from? "Paper and ink."
What is paper made from? "Well... err... wood ???"
"Hey, what are you trying to say?" Exactly.

Are you implying that the Bible is an idol? The Bible is a source of information and not to be worshipped.

Yup.
You're a good guy, Bob. I know you mean well.
However, I do see many fine folks have a misunderstanding about Matthew 5:17, and the law in general.
The topic starter is sharing some discoveries I made decades ago in debate with SDAs and others about the law.
Best to pay attention. - God bless.

The law, the Law, God's law, and Christ's law - four different things.
Do you know the difference?
I dispute the premise. When we obey the commandments, we stay out of trouble. That is their purpose - the are a gift.

All I know is that there are certain things in this world that get us into trouble. Therefore, God gave us commandments to follow so we would stay out of trouble. They were his gift to us.

The commandments are a gift to us. They keep us out of trouble. (Rob a bank and you go to prison, so God commanded, "Do not steal.")

The law does not keep us out of trouble. Listen to what Paul said, "But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence (Lust) For without the law sin was dead" Romans 7:8. The law promotes sin. It doesn't help to overcome sin. We need to be dead to the law.

Sin gets us into trouble. When we don't sin - that is, when we obey the law - we avoid trouble.

You ridicule me because I said sin gets us into trouble? You should know better.
No, sir.
Because you wrote this.
... when we obey the law - we avoid trouble.
The law?
What law? Can you define what law you are talking about?
- Human laws?
- The law God gave to the Israelites alone through Moses?
- The Books of the Law (capital L) The Pentateuch.
- God's law? (the law of our God-given human conscience)
- Christ's law? (the two commandments)

WHICH LAW ARE YOU WRITING ABOUT !!!!!!!!! ???
