Show me your tassels. - LOLNot everything was a law. There were statutes, decrees, and ordinances. We are only concerned with the commandments - the law.
Jesus said he did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17).
I like to add some context. The law is a ministration of death, 2 Corinthians 3:7, for those who believe that they will be saved and justified by the law or their religion.
Yes; "statutes, decrees, and ordinances"... Thank you for reminding me.Not everything was a law. There were statutes, decrees, and ordinances. We are only concerned with the commandments - the law.
How many are serving a dead religion of laws, rules and religion? And have rejected the New Covenant of grace and the Gospel?Yes; "statutes, decrees, and ordinances"... Thank you for reminding me.

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us,
which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Ask any Christian whether they approve of idolatry and they will say, "No!"How many are serving a dead religion of laws, rules and religion? And have rejected the New Covenant of grace and the Gospel?
Are you implying that the Bible is an idol? The Bible is a source of information and not to be worshipped.Ask any Christian whether they approve of idolatry and they will say, "No!"
But look at what we have made for idols?
Ask them whether idols were made from wood. "Yes!"
And what are books made from? "Paper and ink."
What is paper made from? "Well... err... wood ???"
"Hey, what are you trying to say?" Exactly.
I dispute the premise. When we obey the commandments, we stay out of trouble. That is their purpose - the are a gift.Yup.
You're a good guy, Bob. I know you mean well.
However, I do see many fine folks have a misunderstanding about Matthew 5:17, and the law in general.
The topic starter is sharing some discoveries I made decades ago in debate with SDAs and others about the law.
Best to pay attention. - God bless.
The law, the Law, God's law, and Christ's law - four different things.
Do you know the difference?
All I know is that there are certain things in this world that get us into trouble. Therefore, God gave us commandments to follow so we would stay out of trouble. They were his gift to us.Show me your tassels. - LOL
As binding as the Sabbath law. Read the context of the scripture below.
Numbers 15:37-39 NIV
The Lord said to Moses,
38 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them:
‘Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel.
39 You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes.
The commandments are a gift to us. They keep us out of trouble. (Rob a bank and you go to prison, so God commanded, "Do not steal.")And Jesus did fulfill the Law, and removed it from the Born again.
"Christ is the END of the LAW for righteousness..... for everyone who Believes".
The born again are "not under the LAW, but under GRACE".
You're welcome.Yes; "statutes, decrees, and ordinances"... Thank you for reminding me.

The law does not keep us out of trouble. Listen to what Paul said, "But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence (Lust) For without the law sin was dead" Romans 7:8. The law promotes sin. It doesn't help to overcome sin. We need to be dead to the law.All I know is that there are certain things in this world that get us into trouble. Therefore, God gave us commandments to follow so we would stay out of trouble. They were his gift to us.
Sin gets us into trouble. When we don't sin - that is, when we obey the law - we avoid trouble. The law does not keep us out of trouble. It can be. Bibliolatry. The forum is a temple/battleground.Are you implying that the Bible is an idol?
Agreed. The Bible is a source of information and not to be worshipped.
You ARE the droid we are looking for. - LOLSin gets us into trouble. When we don't sin - that is, when we obey the law - we avoid trouble.
You ridicule me because I said sin gets us into trouble? You should know better. You ARE the droid we are looking for. - LOL
