Where in Revelation do you see the destruction of Jerusalem as JESUS prophesied in the Gospel (which came to pass in 70AD).
ok brother, so the fall of Babylon, the destruction of the whore...and here is why I believe it is allegorical for Jerusalem. I hope you will find it helpful for now, I can only bite off small chunks at at time and Revelation is very overwhelming:
Let me say that first of all I don’t have a good handle on the book of Revelation in every particular, it is just too much information for my brain to handle, all the more as I get older, but I believe the Lord has been gracious to show me some bits and pieces, which hopefully will point us in the right direction at least. I’m really only going to point out some scriptures here and you can draw your own conclusions with the help of the Lord. Scripture itself illuminates other scriptures….and many parts of Rev are reiterations of scriptures that came before it. Eg, beast kingdoms mentioned in Daniel are brought forward again in Rev.
The mostly Gentile church has made a lot of scripture church-centric, when actually prophecies and other scripture was speaking to the Jew FIRST, then the Gentile. That’s why we have missed Jesus’ prophetic words where they are speaking about the destruction of Jerusalem. And Daniel’s prophecies concerned Israel first as well. The gracious promises were to Israel first….Jesus was born a Jew and the early church was Jewish. God was speaking to them about Israel, His chosen people and nation, so no small thing, and the early believers would have had the same concerns for their nation that we have for our western nations today.
As has been mentioned that great city is a term that applies to both Jerusalem and Babylon….because they are one and the same. Babylon the great…..is depicted as a place of merchandise in Rev……trading in all sorts of merchandise (false doctrines? and/or speaking to general wealth and luxurious lifestyle) and SOULS OF MEN, which apparently made her wealthy.
We see in the bible how Jesus
two times went to the temple and drove out the money changers, saying they had turned His Father’s house into a
house of merchandise. Both at
the beginning of His ministry and at the end. It might be that we are to read something into this.
(To the Jew first, then the Gentile: the church has become a house of merchandise too. RCC is wealthy and so has modern day protestant evangelicalism sold out to mammon. We are told in the bible that Israel is our ensample/allegory and things concerning Israel were written for our admonition and warning as well….Paul spoke of false teachers “making merchandise of you”.)
Now looking at this:
Luk 11:47-52
Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you,
It shall be required of this generation.
Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
Rev 18:21-24
And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying,
Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
Rev 17:3
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
And
the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
And upon her forehead was a name written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
And
I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration
.
As we know, religious unbelieving Jews persecuted the saints/prophets of the old testament. and the early church terribly in the first century. And then later the RCC took up that baton. How the “woman” is described here fits the Temple priesthood and embellishments……..as well as RCC and their robes and golden gem-studded things. I've already mentioned how the RCC resembles the old covenant priesthood....I believe they are spiritually one and the same, virtually, ruled by the same principalities of Babylon...MIXTURE...confusion. Halting between two opinions....mixing the things of God horribly with blasphemous things and idolatry.
These scriptures can’t be talking about the literal city of Babylon…because that had it had been destroyed by Sennacherib in 689 BC long before this vision was given to John. I don't know who else it could be referring to other than Jerusalem and later an apostate church. Those scriptures about the blood of saints and prophets and what Jesus said clinched it for me. Jesus several times spoke of things happening to that generation...and of course He was speaking the truth.....He was no false prophet.
