I also agree that eternal torment has been used as a fear factor in keeping ignorant people submitted to church authority. Not convinced anyone will be in heaven because of fear of something which is in reality, a myth.

Nah, let's go with what I've said for once. I think I've earned a skippy badge.

You've earned nothing. You haven't answered all questions. You make one line generalizations. You lie. Your just a typical atheist.

Oh go love your God, that's all your got.

And that is enough. But, more important, God loves me. See, you offer nothing. I already love God. Did so before you got here. You have done nothing to impair that love for God.

You have done nothing to impair my faith in Jesus Christ. You have done nothing to impair my faith in the Bible as the Word of God. You have not created any doubt in me concerning God and Christ or the Bible.

You simply come here and squawk your one liners thinking you are really going to trip up the Christians. You're going to show them. Yet all you do is show your other end.

Better to ask God for wisdom than read teh bible, it will kill you as it has so many christians, just read teh posts on this forum.

And believe me when I say, God knows where you are coming from, religion will and does have a lot to answer for, it has kept Gods people from God for centuries and it and all its churches will be judged, But God is not who you think He is, religion has bastardized Him to keep people afraid of Him, it certainly worked on you.

Name one thing you can do morally with God that I can't do morally without.

The answer to your question is 'nothing.' If there is no transcendent ultimate authority in the universe, there is no such thing as 'morality.' There is no right or wrong, good or evil. These require an objective standard that does not exist in a godless universe. There's nothing but subjective personal preferences, i.e. opinions, which are no more than the product of chemical reactions in your brain. For an atheist to make 'moral judgements' is to be inconsistent with your own godless, naturalistic worldview and ultimately meaningless.

the point is to divide, joints from marrow, right. That is the function of Word, from which the Book descends, mjr. While i do understand how you got to your position, i suggest that you would not object at all to a proper interpretation. So the wolves misinterpret to suit themselves, so what. That means you are going to toss our most inspired Writings? Then how will you see the sin that you are committing, in order to rebound from it?

Where is your earthly check/balance, if i may ask?
How do you avoid becoming a law unto yourself?

now mjr, i have to ask how churches are going to be judged, if not by their works?
How can you have it both ways, iow. @H. Richard, same Q basically, ty

I agree, there is nothing wrong with the written word but with how people read and understand it. Everyone who reads a passage has their own interpretation. It is only by the teaching of the Spirit that we can understand properly.

Human teachers are insufficient, if that is all someone has they would be better off never knowing the bible and reinforcing those teachings through false interpretations.

Our morals that you think only come from your God himself is not true. Morality is something that has grown and expanded among many different cultures. Take for example China, they were a race isolated from most of the world who developed a moral system. They didn't worship or even know your God. The ancient Greeks developed there's and a great amount of philosophy which we still learn from today, and none of them knew Jesus.

As for the Bibles morality, is it moral for your God to kill the Canaanite children or any children for that fact. Would you kill a child if God told you too? You know what I'd say to some voice in my head... Also your God gets drunk on the blood of his slain emeries, he curses people, destroys them, mocks them.

So my question to you is, are you sure your God is up to the moral challenge himself?

Ain't that the truth...what amazes me is the amount of intelligent people who are giving him a platform and 'time of day'...more fool them.
I thought that Jesus said " My sheep hear My voice and a stranger they will not follow..."

Maybe some people's discernment is a somewhat rusty!!! o_O

took me a minute to get you here, but ya. i could present some arguments by defining some of your terms differently, for instance a human led by Christ might be sufficient, but that is basically a subject change or maybe an exception. prolly.

unless one of the Names is Morality, which i think i could make a case for.

This would alter how the rest of that paragraph is interpreted as well i guess. The Greeks might be accused of seeking Christ by another Name, iow, even though they are deemed responsible for developing Logic--a deviation from the Easterners/Chinese, who for whatever reason have never embraced logic to this day--and the inevitable philosophy which descends from it.

this might seem pointless, but imo it is significant to note that "Oriental Philosophy" is distinctly diff from Western

The sixth poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the east.

is it moral to kill cannibals, hmm. good Q.

imo that should be understood in the context of Canaanites passing their children through the fire, and also the dispensation of law at the time, but mostly the first one imo
