I have been studying the encounter Moses had with God on Mt. Sinai and receiving the 10 Commandments.
I have learned that the Law of Moses is not the 10 Commandments but are still inspired by God and written by Moses....that God laws are the Ten Commandments found in Exodus 20 while Mosaic Law are all other Old Testament laws found in the Torah or Pentateuch books (first five books of the bible).

God's Laws pertain to spiritual
Moses Laws pertain to physical and to Israel.

Jesus was referring to God's Laws not Moses Laws when He said I came not to do away with the law but to fulfill it.

Am I understanding this correctly?

I will tag @ixcn hopefully to catch his attention here.

OH and on top of that I learned there are 613 Commandments! Whew!
All 613 Commandments in the Old Testament Law of Moses
"There are a whole lot more than only 10 Commandments found in the Old Testament, there are 613 Commandments! Below is a list of the 613 mitzvot commandments (mitzvot is plural, mitzvah is singular).

There are both "positive" and "negative" mitzvot (do's and don'ts) which can be divided into 365 Negative Mitzvot (to remind us not to do bad things every day of the year) plus 248 Positive Mitzvot (the number of bones in the human body - for a total of 613. In this way, Hebrews and Jewish people are able to obey the mitzvot with their entire body.

It is important to know that while God gave us many commands to follow, including the famous Ten Commandments, He did not abolish the Law of Moses found in the Torah (the first five Books of the Bible). The following commandments are superceded by the new covenant of grace."

Hi Sister Heart2Soul. To me you are right on, as there was but One (Jesus) that could satisfy that ministration of death, written and engraven in stones of 2 Cor 3:7.

248 Positive Mitzvot (the number of bones in the human body
there are only 208 bones in the adult human body....infants are born with over 270 but as they fuse together they lose the number of bones that can be counted separately

Well I am still getting lotsa info about the Mosaic Law and the NT....copied from the same link as above.
The Law is God’s Divine Instructions in Righteousness
without which man would have NO blueprint for moral, holy living.

Jesus Christ attempted to abolish the rabbinical, man-made opinions and traditions that kept people in bondage. Neither He nor His apostles ever spoke against the Law nor suggested that after Jesus’ death the Torah was to become null and void. The Apostle Paul said, “Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.” (Romans 3:31)

Yes there are according to Jewish Scrib's 613 Commandment's in the Torah, Some were for children, some for men, some for women, some for Levit's, some for the Kohan priests, and some for the Kohan Gadol high priest!
The First Commandment, of the 10 commandment's is!!!!" I Am", this one is very Important!! It is Indicative not Imperative! God is saying, "I AM" Believe that I Am, If you do not believe then the other Commandment's are moot! Also if you keep the Two that Yashua [Jesus] Quoted, Love God with all that you are, and Love Your Fellow man, Then how can you Transgress the whole of the Commandment's!

I am no expert on the OT law, be it physical or spiritual, but most of what you have written sounds OK so long as I don't need to support it all immediately with scripture. The following quote from your OP is expressed in a way I had perhaps heard but never really fully considered. Of course understanding what does apply to natural Israel is not nearly important to us as understanding what does apply to us.
God's Laws pertain to spiritual
Moses Laws pertain to physical and to Israel.
Perhaps some others here will help fill in some of the gaps in knowledge or understanding.

This site might be helpful. The terms "Law of Moses", "Mosaic Law" and the Law are by convention used quite broadly to refer to the first five books (Pentateuch) and others, sometimes all of the OT, as the link explains.

Yes, and since the 10 Commandments are from God they never cease to be His Law....While the Law of Moses ceased after Christ came...correct?

Jesus And The Law Of Moses
Copied from the link:
The presence of God’s grace today has been perverted by many to mean the absence of law. However, if there is no law, there is no sin. Hear Paul, "Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression" (Rom. 4: 15). Sin is lawlessness or the breaking of law (I Jn. 3: 4). Since we are all declared sinners by God, there must be law in this dispensation (Rom. 3: 23). The unique truth about Jesus’ law is that it is a "perfect law of liberty." "But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty..." (Jas. 1: 25). Jesus’ law is a perfect law of liberty because it offers the perfect motivation and example for obedience, the freedom of onerous commandments, and grace as opposed to the sinlessness required for justification under Moses’ Law (I Pet. 2: 21; Jn. 13: 34; I Jn. 5: 3; Eph. 2: 8-10).

So the Bold text...explain this....because I have seen a lot of arguments here about being under grace and therefore if we sin it is already covered by the blood of Jesus....isn't this proving otherwise?

Well for all these years I have misunderstood that the NT was referring to the Law of Moses when it was referring to Jesus coming to fulfill the law....even little misinterpretations or misunderstandings such as this makes other scriptures confusing....and having this knowledge now makes those other scriptures fall into place much better.

Furthermore it emphasizes how important understanding the OT as it relates to the NT really is! So I am perplexed that people teach that we don't need to study the OT.....they have to be studied together to see the whole truth...IMHO....

Yes, I believe even many practicing ministers and position holding pastors don't really understand what the word "law" means or if they do they fail to share their knowledge with their congregations. A good pastor or Bible teacher should be working to put himself out of a job. While even if one really is working toward that, it seems doubtful that he'll ever do it in his lifetime.

I think I have previously understood your definition in the NT, but never really as I said considered breaking it into the two parts within the OT. It is revelation that will probably help me when I am reading anew in the OT.
Thank you.

I have never thought that even when I knew very little about either one. I understand many connection were made in places like this forum as well as in formal church settings or discussions offline. But, the work of God in me goes on as I believe it should in any believer while he/she still has time.

Actually no. Jesus was referring to the entire Law of Moses (the Old Covenant) within which of course we find the moral and spiritual laws of the Ten Commandments. Christ fulfilled the Old Covenant in every respect, and therefore established the New Covenant, ratified with His blood.

At the same time, the Ten Commandments are eternal, and they are incorporated into the Law of Christ. They are also part and parcel of the New Covenant.

HEBREWS 8
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Yeah the entire 613 commandments? See I am still not getting I guess....but this forum has me trying to understand God's mercy and grace as it pertains to those who are saved versus those who aren't and everything people have said here had a scripture to back it up...soooo I wanted to go back to the OT and study this deeper....and so I have learned that the 10 Commandments are God's Covenant Laws that cannot be changed ever....where the Law of Moses ended when Christ came to earth as the Messiah.

I don't know if you read through many of them but, some are pretty off the wall!!! Lol. I know the "Levitical" laws were there to distinguish Israel from other nations like, no shellfish or mixing of materials in clothing...

I like this very much but what I am reading here is that He is a merciful God to our weaknesses and sins and so if a person is saved and messes up and sins they are still saved.....I was getting desperate to prove what was said that a person who sins is not converted.....therefore not saved and I couldn't respond....I wasn't equipped with the knowledge of it...and I had to find the truth.

Agreed Truth,
Under the New Covenant, God wrote His laws on the lining of our hearts as, unlike before Christ, we now have the Holy Spirit living within us.
