I am so excited! Today, my order finally came in: the Tolle Lege 1599 Geneva Bible!
From the moment I began digesting the text and the notes, I was in love with the Bible! It is an amazing study, and has secured its spot as my go-to bible. Now, I know that there are some people will indefinitely hate this translation, because they claim that this Bible was replaced by the King James because it was inaccurate; that is actually not the truth! Believe it or not, the Geneva was replaced for 2 main reasons:
1.) The King did not like the notes about tyranny; the commentators often refered to tyranny as an evil abomination, and that there was only one King of all; Jesus.
2.) The notes also spoke against divorce that was without a justifiable cause; you couldn't just go around getting married and divorced simply because you felt like it, and that is what King James wanted to do.
Of course, one of my favorite things about this new study bible is the notes; written by reformers such as Oliver Cromwell, John Knox and John Calvin. They provide amazing insight into the Scriptures and their meanings, and are some of the best I have ever read. This is more of a praise post than anything, really. What an amazing blessing the Word of God is!
