Grace and effort are not synonymous. One does not work for a gift. But they do go hand in hand. It is when we are not filled with grace that the effort must come. Grace teaches us how we ought to be. But we are not always "under" grace. To think that is to be religious....and that is error. Rather there are times when God looks to see if we have learned anything from Him. Then it is we who must act with love....by choice. If we do that then we have not frustrated the grace of God. The Spirit is our coach in life. Grace is the power of God that shows us who God is in action.

Rewards are given in response to work resulting from salvation.

If you have to force yourself you get nothing. That put you into cults like Catholicism, JWism and Mormonism.

...Who clearly instructed his disciples to empty their pockets and walk out their front doors with no spares and go to another town, stay in one house, and eat what they feed you, right. Is grace getting anyone out that door, or is it the feet? lol

Was Jesus instructing them to go without provisions to test their faith? To show His Glory in the sufficiency of His Grace by providing for them?
JOHN 1:16 "Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given."

I would guess that that is one important reason, yes

Oh, I can't tell you how very true that has been in my own life!

Just a question.

I see being under grace as being in obedience to Christ. What do you think?
When "salvation" stops being "me, going up to heaven to become an immortal after I have died," and starts being what Scripture means it is, the perspective there will change completely
If a person seeks salvation to be immortal in heaven they are not going to get it.

That is a consequence salvation. Not the reason for salvation.

I see grace as receiving what we do not deserve, and mercy to me, is NOT getting what we deserve, lol.
Being under obedience to Christ to me, is all about faith in Him and becoming a new man in Him...we learn to hate sin as He does and "He is faithful to complete..." So, what should follow naturally is that our obedience to Him would become natural as we learn to hate sin. I WANT to obey Him and have realized how much I DO hate sin...that was not always the case :(. ♥

There is only One Immortal, and you are not Him :)
No one has ever gone up to heaven, but you are welcome to believe that you might!

We are members of His body.

Also, see Colossians 1:5 and 1 Peter 1:4.

Col 1:5, For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

1Pe 1:4, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

I never claimed to be immortal.

Enoch and Elijah give your claim a problem. They are both in heaven right now in the flesh. Neither have died yet.

bbyrd keeps harping on these points and I have explained the passages he has "cited" (including putting the proper citation on them) in another thread--the--John the Baptist water baptism thread. When he got no sales on his point of view, he came over to this thread to pester Christians.

hey, I'm impressed you even acknowledged them, even if it was only to warp them all out of shape. I'll just let you lead here then, I guess that is the message anyway

Since you never explained your point in citing them, no "warping" was even possible. All proper leadership among Christians is submitted to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The leading of humans without that anointing, is often in error.

So, you might see how this is going...how it always goes, roughly being I make a direct Quote of Scripture with absolutely no interpretation, which is then contested by an interpretation that cannot be Quoted. From my pov of course. I'll leave you the last word here, and fwiw I like "we are the Body of Christ" even if that does not apply imo, and will even come back to haunt you when you go looking for Jesus Returning I guess. Ok bye

You did not post verse. You paraphrase to your liking.

Your implication is often obvious when seen in connection with some of your cryptic comments. When you "quote" Scripture out of context, it often becomes a lie--like the wags who quote, "Judas went out and hanged himself." along with Jesus saying, "Go and do likewise." It takes the truth of Scripture and turns it into a lie--in the latter case, it is done for humorous effect but it makes a point as well.

I'll leave you the last word here, and fwiw I like "we are the Body of Christ" even if that does not apply imo, and will even come back to haunt you when you go looking for Jesus Returning I guess. Ok bye

Another cryptic comment meant to confuse, bbyrd? Why don't you just spell out what you believe instead of taking pot shots at Christians?

If there is any time that we are not under grace, you can be sure that we will blow it...our only hope of overcoming sin in life is through the grace of our Lord.

Actually that is true until we learn true humility and become mature. This is what God is looking for in us.....the full stature of Christ...which is actually being small...
