i don’t deny. It’s a true statement. But NOWHERE does he say this is about certain specific individuals like you. Many are called by the gospel but few will accept and obey thereby becoming one of the elect. Jesus himself said the road and gate to eternal life is narrow and FEW will go in.
John 15 was spoken directly to the apostles. It was not meant for all mankind.
God is coming to punish who? Who is God going to punish? 2 thes 1:7,8 tells us. Do you care to answer?
Romans 6:17-18 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Who was made free from sin? Those who obeyed from the heart!!
Young’s literal translation disagrees....Your souls having purified in the obedience of the truth through the Spirit
Souls are purified through obedience.
Mounce disagrees....Since you have purified · your souls by · obedience to the truth
Souls are purified through obedience.
These are direct translations from the Greek. Do you have some scholarship we all need to know about?
He didn’t disagree. The apostle Peter was there and fully understood that the promise was made directly to them. Just like acts 1:4,8
of course he does. When one obeys the conditions laid out in his word of truth they will be purified by the blood.
One has to obey in order to be born again. If not then everyone would be born again and Jn 3:5 would make no sense.
The Elect/Chosen by God are specific individuals.
The names of the individuals to be saved are known by God from the foundation of the world, for it is written "written in the book of life from the foundation of the world" (Revelation 17:8) and "nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life" (Revelation 21:27).
When Lord Jesus says "For many are called, but few [are] chosen" (Matthew 22:14), His words are clearly about specific individuals - the few chosen/elect by God!
When Lord Jesus says "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28), His words are clearly about specific individuals - notice the ransom for MANY which is not ALL as in where Lord Jesus said He would DRAW all men to Himself (John 12:32). The elect/chosen are many in the Kingdom of God (Matthew 20:28), yet few coming out of the world (Matthew 22:14 and Matthew 7:13-14).
When Lord Jesus issues the command "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matthew 7:13-14), His words indicate that MANY PEOPLE THAT GO THROUGH THE BROAD WAY THAT LEADS TO DESTRUCTION; on the other hand, FEW PEOPLE GO THE WAY THAT LEADS TO LIFE which is through the work of God is persons believing that the Father sent Jesus (John 6:29) - faith/belief is the work of God not the work of man (Ephesians 2:8-9).
When Lord Jesus said "you did not choose Me, but I chose you" (John 15:16), He talks to specific individuals which are all believers in all time - not just the disciples there with Him - to all believers in all time.
During the supper described by the Apostle John (John chapters 13 - 17), Lord Jesus pronounces the promise of the Holy Spirit (recorded in John 14:16-17, John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:7-11, John 16:13-14).
Behold a couple of examples of the filling of the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts, where the about 120 were filled during Pentecost (Acts 1:15, Acts 2:1-4) as well as the later event at which Cornelius (was a centurion in the Italian cohort), his relatives, and his close friends upon whom the Holy Spirit fell (Acts 10:44).
The Holy Spirit promised by Lord Jesus at the supper described in John chapters 13-17 was fulfilled to people that WERE NOT PHYSICALLY IN THE ROOM since Cornelius and his relatives and his close friends received the Holy Spirit!
Thus, when Lord Jesus said "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, [that is] the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me" (John 15:26), that "you" is FOR ALL BELIEVERS IN ALL TIME.
Now, a mere 10 verses prior to John 15:26, we find John 15:16 where Lord Jesus says "you did not choose Me, but I chose you". That "you" is FOR ALL BELIEVERS IN ALL TIME.
We know this also refers to the elect/choosen of God because a mere 3 verses later, Lord Jesus said "I chose you out of the world" (John 15:19).
All of this fits nicely with the fact that nobody can see nor enter the Kingdom of God WITHOUT the work of God in being born again (John 3:3 and John 3:5). A PERSON CANNOT CAUSE THE SELF-SAME PERSON TO BE BORN, NOT EVEN BORN AGAIN. Thus there can be no obedience - which is truly fruit of the Spirit - with the work of God in a person.
CONSIDERING 1 PETER 1:21-22
The Apostle Peter is in accord with the Lord Jesus because the Apostle Peter gives glory to God for the purification of believer's souls when the Apostle Peter wrote "God the souls of you having-purified in the obedience of-the truth" is revealed from the Greek (1 Peter 1:21-22).
A look at an actual ancient manuscript is needed because it appears that many English translators are copying the error of many English translators.
I looked, and I saw there was no punctuation in the Greek for this passage, and there were no verse numbers in the Greek for this passage, and there were no chapter indicators in the Greek of 1 Peter. WHAT IS ALSO REALLY INTERESTING, is the beginning of the 1st Peter chapter 2 because in the Greek there is a paragraph change that occurs ten words prior to 1 Peter 2:1; in other words, a paragraph change occurs inside of 1 Peter 1:25 - the final verse of 1 Peter 1.
Even if, which it is not, even if Peter wrote "you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls" (1 Peter 1:22), the ONLY way that could happen is a work of God, but that English sequence of words is very broken from the Greek. The accurate writing of the Apostle Peter is "The-ones through Him believing into God the One rousing Him out of-dead-ones and esteem to Him giving as-besides the belief of-you and expectation to-be into God the souls of you having-purified in the obedience of-the truth through Spirit into brotherly-affection unfeigned out of-clean heart one-another love-you earnestly" (1 Peter 1:21-22).
Thus, the Apostle Peter is in accord with the Lord Jesus about God's work in man.
Nowhere in the NT scripture does God declare that man chooses God; on the other hand, God does declare that God chooses man - and specific individuals.
CNKW3, you and your free-will colleagues practice the sin of rebellion against God because you claim to choose Him Who said the He cannot be chosen by you (John 15:16). You chose a false god because Lord Jesus said you cannot choose Him (John 15:16). Your fruit is of the flesh because YOU CLAIM OWNERSHIP OVER YOUR CLAIMED OBEDIENCE - CNKW3, that is you sinning by trying to steal from God.
God brings us born again elect/chosen into the Kingdom of God producing fruit of the Spirit - this is all by God's grace, mercy, and love - and only God causes us to believe and to be born again (John 3:3 and John 3:5 and John 6:29). All glory to God!
THERE IS NO LEVEL THAT A PERSON CAN CHOOSE LORD JESUS BECAUSE HE SAID "YOU DID NOT CHOOSE ME, BUT I CHOSE YOU" (JOHN 15:16) - JESUS, BEING GOD, DID NOT PROVIDE ANY EXCEPTION FOR CHOOSING TOWARD JESUS.
