But they are not the subject of this thread.

Dreams and visions are ALSO gifts of the Holy Spirit, and prophesied on the Day of Pentecost by Peter when he said by the Spirit that what was happening was a fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel, which if you didn't know included dreams and visions. That should enhance your post, not derail it.

This thread is dealing with 1Cor 12 gifts of the spirit. Not all the gifts of the spirit in scripture.

But I am not dealing with them. As I have said many times, my thread is dealing with the nine gifts of the Spirit in 1 Cor 12.

Secessionists believe there are about TWENTY THREE gifts of the Spirit. Three of those were to definitely come to an end after the apostles passed on and the Bible was completed. Also there were several sign gifts ("the signs of an apostle") limited to the apostolic period and for the apostles and their companions.

However there are many other gifts to be looked at and used.

GIFTS WHICH HAD TO CEASE
1. Apostles
2. Prophets
3. Tongues
4. Interpretation of tongues
5. Knowledge (supernatural)

SIGN GIFTS WHICH CEASED
6. Healers (healings)
7. Miracle workers (signs, wonders, mighty deeds)
8. Serpent handling
9. Drinking poison

GIFTS DURING THE CHURCH AGE
10. Evangelists
11. Pastors
12. Teachers
13. Helpers (Helps)
14. Governments (Ruling)
15. Words of wisdom
16. Words of knowledge
17. Faith
18. Ministry (service)
19. Exhortation
20. Liberality (Christian giving)
21. Shewing mercy
22. Discerning of spirits
23. Casting out demons (exorcism)

I'm so glad the gifts of our New Covenant will not cease till we see Christ face to face. Here is my pastor praying against the F4 tornado that hit my city 2009. This video was on the news

Tornados lift and also drop down randomly. The power is in Christ and Gods authority.
If one wants to claim authority of God and the faith like Jesus exercised, the tornado itself would disappear.

24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!"
25 He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."
Luke 8

So many claim God has given them authority to rebuke weather, except it is minor things.
I have prayed for good weather, for Gods blessing in a limited way for particular situations and seen God answer.
Too many claim something that is simply not there. If one truly had authority, storms and issues would stop.

A friend felt as a testimony to Jesus she would know the day her baby would be born. She got it wrong.
Accepting our limitations, and realising what and who we are in Christ is the reality. And Jesus cares 100% of the
time us letting Him into our hearts and letting His word and truth grow and rule all our actions and words. It is here
that miracles truly happen and what is impossible becomes clear. But sadly many "spirit filled" believers know only
defeat and failure in this area, which completely denies their spirituality and truth. Jesus is clear. Anyone can claim
spiritual authority, but heart reality, only the elect have it.

Spoken like a true unbelievers.

Hello CharismaticLady,

Who are they unbelievers? What often confuses me is some are truly believers, but have no sense of the limitations of what the Lord will or will not do. Too many in my church have prayed for healing of those with cancer, only to find these fellow believers died. Was this because of unbelief or miss-understanding Gods will and His intent.

Many believe God wants to cure all believers of their diseases and problems, like short-sightedness, fillings, developmental problems, growth problems. But the reality is God does not cure people of these things or has ever showed a desire to turn people who could not serve as priests in the temple, would be made perfect so they could serve. Rather what God ordains for us is our burden to carry. Gifts of faith are given in particular situations where we can reach out and accept His gracious gifts.

So believers rather than coming before the Lord and praising Him for the blessing He has provided up to that point, but appears to be drawing to a close someones life, rather it is the enemy fighting against Gods intention, and obviously God is not part of this situation. Thankfully for many God has provided doctors and medical procedures to bring about healing and blessing, which for those who take by faith this help, have found the Lord has blessed them and brought them back from the edge.

Sadly time and again young believers are faced with mature believers claiming God has healed them, only to die, as if this was a step of faith rather than a denial of what actually was going on. What this clearly shows, rather than discerning the will of God and accepting His will and ways, it is more like people desiring to cling on to life here in this world and resisting going to meet the Lord and fulfilling the very faith they hold to.
Paul was torn between going to be with the Lord or staying to encourage brothers and sisters in Christ. Now that is a real spiritual place in which to rest. God bless you

The difference is in knowing who you are in Jesus. Jeff knew his command in the name of Jesus would affect that tornado, and it did. He had absolutely no doubt. You seem to be a skeptic, thus unaware of the power of the Holy Spirit, if indeed the Spirit was even there. Any type of unbelief such as yours will definitely quench the Spirit. This is probably not the only area of your life that is weak and carnal. To receive the powerful Spirit, one must repent of their weakness to sin. And not only will you receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, but you will receive gifts and authority.

I have the Holy Spirit and His gifts. I do not though fall for recorded demonstrations of authority and platforms that suggest power and authority is our foundation.

Too many are naive to liars and thieves who deceive the gullable while living in sin and hypocrisy. Once you ignore the heart and accept people are believers with everything sorted, all we need is the anointing and power, the gospel has left the room.

The gospel has primarily been about repentance and walking in love from the heart, purity and truth, victory and openness sacrificing ones life for the sake of others. All Jesus's miracles and power was to demonstrate He forgave sins, He was the source of life and truth, it is by obedience to Him we walk in the ways of the Kingdom.

Often spiritual gifts have been put in opposition to transformed lives, forgiveness, purity and holiness. But the gifts of the Spirit are given to encourage us in our walk and good works to bring glory to Christ and His message.

And unfortunately the idea that all disease will be cured, all problems are evil, all poverty is a curse is simply false teaching. We are only alive because of Gods blessing, and if He wishes to bring us home, Amen. Rather than rejoicing our final release has been given, this movement regard the ultimate conclusion and fulfilment of our faith and life is actually a defeat. I cannot kill myself, I am called to serve and witness here where I am, and yet to find true release and ultimately going home, is the greatest joy possible.

Spiritual gifts can be viewed and used as a power trip, a way of exalting ministry and not seeking Gods will.
Look at all the fake healers who have healing campaignes and literally no one is healed. And then this is called unbelief to state the reality.

There are too many unbelievers or ex-believers who have demonstrated the exploitation of many evil deceivers who come to ask for money while delivering false teaching and empty promises. And unfortunately many of these deceivers push healing and gifting that simply is not there.

A testimony to healing

A young boy in our church had a rare cancer that spread to his spine, and which was likely to not be treatable.
I prayed for Gods will, and His grace to work in this tragic situation. Praise God, relief did happen, the disease was constrained and relief happened. After a few years the cancer returned. The same call was given, and people wanted special care and focus.

In my heart I felt the Lord had answered in the initial situation and brought relief, but now was the time to call this young man home. I did not believe that God was going to repeat His move like before, and things would draw to a conclusion. They did and the young man went to be with the Lord.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. We live only in His hands.
People will get old and die. But in this death is our ultimate freedom, being with Jesus.
I am now older than my father, grand father, probably 7 generations back.
I praise God for His blessing and do not expect another day. I am full, and truly blessed.
The age we live in has so little stress and problems, I wonder at its reality.

And yet look around you. With such blessing are people fulfilling the promise of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, joy, peace, patience, love, self control, or actually are they unable to realise the reality because of unresolved hearts, and impure lives?

Then you should know better than trying to spread a demonic spirit of unbelief. I know Jeff. The guy filming Jeff sent that video to a news caster and it was on the news.

I am sorry. Calling my observation that such shows are not demonstrations of miracles is demonic is not wise.

This approach brings the Lord's name into disrepute. Jesus's way is to show the evidence of God's grace. Missing ones own building and destroying all ones neighbours is saying what? God is judging the community but sparing the church like Egypt and the Passover. Is this God's grace and love?

Jesus healed the sick and ill, not just believers or preserving their property.

As I said, stop the tornado, that is authority. I think your response to me demonstrates the fruit of such teaching. God bless you. Where is the grace, the love and care.

This response highlights the defence the failure of miracles is disbelief rather than a failure to see God's will.

Disease and poverty are evil and God's people should have faith to see both conquered. Both of these ideas are not true. All trials and difficulties are part of the fall, which while we are here we rejoice in Christ to bare the burden and like Job still praise our Saviour and King. God bless you

Satan is the author of unbelief.
Where in scripture is this?
Satan is the father of lies.
The world is lost because of sin.
Our calling is to preach the gospel.
The elect know the work of the Holy Spirit and that which is just for show.

Miracles are signs of authority to bring people under conviction of sin to seek Christ's forgiveness. God bless you

Where in scripture is this?

Revelation 21:8

8 But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Their father is the devil. 1 John 3:8, the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning.

Unbelievers in God, not fearful of judgement and it's implications.

There are many who claim to know Jesus yet are happy to live sinful lives. That is unbelief in the true power of the cross and of Jesus.

So there appears no unbelief in rebuking a tornado that jumps over a building while flattening the neighbours. Yes in Christ we have authority over creation, but walking on water has yet to be seen. And if some could they would say this proves God, except nothing would change as this is not the issue. God bless you

In a secular world with cynics everywhere, the idea God exists is seen as the issue that needs to be answered for people to come to Jesus.

But in truth the problem has always been about guilt, sin and knowing love in our hearts. Jesus stands as a statement of defeat for mankind to live their own way. And the excuses we come out with never end, because we are built to justify whatever we do, good or bad.

The example of this is Israel. Taken out of Egypt, without an army, across the Red Sea, with a pillar of smoke and of fire, saved from the army who dominated the region, given food, water and guidance, yet once Moses went up the mountain, party time, create an idol and let it rip.

It is the passions of the heart, the overwhelming desire to be who we are as we are to the best of our ability that drives us.
It is as believers our humbleness before the King that is our hallmark, the desire to serve and sort things out.
It is love that conquers and directs our passions and leads us by still waters, that is our reality.

God bless you

Satan is the author of unbelief.

Passions, desires, delusions bring about unbelief. Eve fell because she believed that by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil she would not die but be like God knowing good and evil.

Dying was denied, and the benefits of sin added to.

But satan was wrong, and Adam and Eve would die, though their relationship of trust and love with God had died.

The lie of miracles is that miracles are significant in the believers life rather than a faithful walk with Jesus. Miracles and the gifts of the Spirit flow out from a faithful walk and reflect the heart change in the believer from sinner to saint, where healing and wholeness, with purity and holiness has come to abide in the believer.

The lie of spiritual power above evil doing is what Jesus rebukes in the warning at the end of the sermon on the mount.

23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Matt 7

We are made to do good works, to be a shinning light by our behaviour.

14 Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives.
Titus 3

9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Gal 6

The temptation to play the dramatic as if this is what it means to know Jesus rather than the humble walk, is the same lie the serpent gave Eve.
You can be like God and have His command power, and demonstrate this to the unbelievers, rather than you have a walk of humbleness and faithfulness in love and grace to all you meet, showing purity and a blameless life. And from these folk also miracles flow to emphasis the presence of God in their walk, yet you will not hear much about it, because these point to the walk, not to the dramatic effects.
