In order to find the "real jewels" should we not go ahead and buy the whole field at whatever the cost and then we search for the treasure hid therein?

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field." Matt 13:44
Proverbs 25:2 KJV
[2] It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Bottom line: But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Does Christ say "I know you not" to a genuine child of God?
And what is a "genuine child of God"? Certainly not every person who says that he is!

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matt 7:21-23

"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40

"He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." John 7:38

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." John 14:12

"He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."
Joel 3:18 KJV
[18] And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

So what is the arbiter of these? It has to be the Bible.

LoL. The Bible rather than examining the parable itself in context, which we have now cast aside as of no value because people have different interpretations on it. How many passages do people NOT have different interpretations on?

Again, you have subjugated the parables down to the level where attaining a "proper" interpretation fully justifies violating the internal context of the parable itself. This renders the parables essentially worthless and subject to anyone else's doctrines, since internal context carries no real weight. The parables are thus rendered irrelevant to any discussion on Biblical doctrine, and not even worth discussing...

Or are they only considered worthy of discussion if the interpretation being presented favors your own particular doctrine? It turns the parables into anything we want, marks, and that doesn't make for good exegesis.

Oh, boy...
Listen, I've been into it with a few others tonight, and I don't want to be coming off heavy handed on every thread and in every discussion.
Suffice it to say I disagree with your application of the Ephesians verse if you were applying it to this.

Different things.
God bless! and thanks for your input on the thread, however.

Looks like things have gone a little sideways...maybe time to relax and just breath.

Praying that God will speak to every heart and say whatever He needs to say to us.

We are all loved by the Father...and that is -Joy To The World.

I feel a song coming on.... :D :) :D

@marks.

Btw, man. No offense if I misunderstood anything you posted. I've had discussions on the parables before where I heard arguments very similar to the one you are presenting. When I see words like "grammar and language are not critical," I tend to go off, LoL. But maybe that's more of me reacting to people I've spoken to in the past than with you and what you were actually saying.

Blessings in Christ! And no hard feelings. :)

I was whistling "I got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart" today.

At full volume.

absolutely anything goes and we can do with the parables anything we wish, regardless of historical context, grammatical context, theological context, logic, syntax, you name it.

Ick! This is again the position of those who don't want to interpret the word for what it actually says because it doesn't fit their theology.

"Neither grammar nor language is critical..."

You are here giving justification for the entire church to be out in the dark on every parable

you also relegate the parables to being less trustworthy than the rest of Christ's teachings;

LoL. You mean to the level where neither grammar nor language are critical anymore? <chuckling>

you have subjugated the parables down to the level where attaining a "proper" interpretation fully justifies violating the internal context of the parable itself.

The parables are thus rendered irrelevant to any discussion on Biblical doctrine, and not even worth discussing...

It turns the parables into anything we want, marks, and that doesn't make for good exegesis.

I hope you understand how these are conversation killers.

I've stated the parable is to teach us that we should be watching always. Now, considering that this is what Jesus said it was about, where is this wrong exactly?

You need not answer, I don't see the need to continue this.

Much love!

That’s fine the conversation seems to be one sided anyway.

Thanks.

Whatever branch even that is in Christ that does not bear fruit is cut off.....

All this is made very clear by Jesus Himself.

John 15
15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

The blind among us would render the words of Jesus to mean the very opposite as in...every branch that bears no fruit could not possible be in Me....thus believing and teaching a lie...because it goes against their very carnal minds.

The truth is just too difficult to bear for many.

The truth is that we buy oil by buying the field...selling all we have to enter INTO Christ (buying into Him). So that we bear much fruit.

What’s your theory as to why this parable can’t be viewed as just to the Jews by current day Christians?

After all this is whom He was speaking to?
hi Waiting on him,

I don't have a theory on why this parable can't be viewed as to the Jews.

Much love!

I know that you weren't asking me.

But if everything else in the NT is written to us to either bring us to the Lord..or grow us up in the Lord ...
It is a spiritual book and is applicable to us all... "For God so Loved the World is all.
I personally find it impossible to read anything in the NT and then say to myself..."Oh I must skip that bit, it's to the Jews not me,"

When I pick up my bible to read ( be it old or new) I say -
"Lord what do You wish to speak to me today."

I don't then read a verse or two, and then say ..."Oh whoops, that doesn't count, it wasn't to me."

15:1-2 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit."

A subtle shift, but in misquoting the passage - even that is in Christ that does not bear fruit is cut off - the meaning is significantly altered.

Every branch in Christ that does not bear fruit, the Father carries away, not "cuts off", something very different.

BTW . . . episkopos, according to your doctrine, how can a branch be "In Christ", but not bear fruit? Isn't that against what you teach? My understanding was that "in Christ is no sin", and therefore anyone who is in Christ does not commit sin, are you saying that someone can be at the same time both sinless, but also fruitless? That doesn't seem right to me.

Much love!

That’s all good, but I do believe that for me I need to attempt to understand whom the audience is, for instance I don’t see myself or any one ever suffering the persecution of the apostolic church.... so when I read in the Gospels Christ saying
Luke 12:11 KJV
[11] And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
I don’t read this as being spoken to me, I read this as being spoken to the twelve standing before Him, that He knows are going to experience it shortly afterward.

Then we read of it taking place in the epistles and Acts

True, every word, and just the same, we recognize things like, that while we learn and grow and all by reading God's dealings with Noah, we still realize that God was speaking to Noah when He told him to build an ark. So we learn about God's love, and patience, and grace, and holiness, and judgment, but we aren't building big boats.

Much love!
