'Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.'
(Exodus 20:8)

Hello there.

The word 'keep' (H6942), used in Exodus 20:8 (above) is defined as :-

H6942 ( קָדַשׁ ) - qâdash
A primitive root; 'to be'
(causatively make, pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally)
Scriptural usage: - appoint, bid, consecrate, dedicate, defile, hallow,
(be, keep) holy (-er, place), keep, prepare, proclaim, purify, sanctify (-ied one, self), X wholly.)

* In this case the word 'keep' is used in regard to the consecration of a day, dedicating it, setting it apart for the Lord, isn't it?

* Not as in the case of Ephesians 4:3, 'Endeavouring to keep (G5033) the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.' which has the meaning of 'holding fast' as a trust. Though it is used of keeping the commandments in Matthew 19:17,

* The other Greek words translated 'keep' are: G4160; G1314; G2722; G5442;
G4912; G1301; G4238; G1858; G4601; G5432; G5083. There are probably similar variants in the Hebrew language, which can be looked up, and added to the list. However, this like all of the words used in Scripture are worth following through, to see how the Holy Spirit has used them, and in what other ways they are translated.

Thank you Gerhard. :)
With love in Christ Jesus
Chris

Seeing you mention me as having said this and that, I feel I may tell you something you seem to be unaware of about myself. I have written on the subject of the Sabbath more than all writers in the past together had. My views have no previous proponents or first proposers. Despite, I am fully convinced they are Biblical and New Testament, apostolic, and if only one thing, have: "Christ the Substance of Sabbath's Feast for the Body of Christ's Own", "true believers", "worshipping, home-assembling, here and there where two or three gather together in My Name" "IN TRUTH AND IN SPIRIT".

Is it strange my views you now are familiar with concerning "Baptism In The NAME" turned out to be of the same "essence" / "BONE" / "SUBSTANCE", "concerning the Seventh Day .. Sabbath of the LORD GOD" -- "YOUR God"?

If once I unfaithfully use quotation marks for Scripture, very kindly, please, POINT IT OUT TO ME.

Hello @GerhardEbersoehn,

Not wishing to offend you I have removed the reference to you, that opened my OP. I do apologise if I caused you offence Gerhard.

* You are right, I am unaware of your writings on the subject of the Sabbath.

* I am afraid I do not understand what you are saying in your last paragraph, Gerhard, for your manner of expression is very different from my own.

Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
our Lord and Head.
Chris

Hello again, @GerhardEbersoehn,

Regarding the 'keeping' of the Sabbath day. It was incumbent upon the People of Israel to keep the day, as part of the covenant made by God with them at Sinai. The Gentile nations were never in covenant relation with God in this way, and are therefore not under the same obligation. Although a day set apart in this way is of both physical and spiritual benefit to all.

'As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him:
Rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught,
abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power:
In Whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands,
in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him
through the faith of the operation of God, Who hath raised Him from the dead.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us,
and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross;
And having spoiled principalities and powers,
He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday,
or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels,
intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands
having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world,
why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
(Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using
after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom
in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body;
not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.'

(Colossians 2)

* I am afraid I do not understand what you are saying in your last paragraph, Gerhard, for your manner of expression is very different from my own.

WillieT grasped it!

You know, It is one thing God protected me from through all my life amidst my endless and most grievous sins. But it happened a few unforgettable times that I called out the Name of God completely - what shall I say, spontaneously? NO! never! when I could not HELP it through one or other utter emergency, and HIS NAME SAVED ME as I called HIM!

I this very moment, sitting here all by myself reading and typing in this thread felt like calling out God's Name ALOUD. But I did not. I have grown up a bit, and have learned by now the Lord does not need the sound from my lips, but HIMSELF CALLING UNTO HIMSELF IN THE HEART -- MY HEART. For two things, for his mercy, help and salvation, and (hendiadys) at the same time, for VICTORY IN GOD'S NAME ("over mine enemies").

By the grace of God, I tell any who cares to hear, that I heard the Name of the Lord from the first moment of my life in the womb of my mother, so faithful were they to let the Word of God be HEARD in their lives, mornings, mid-days, nights, always in their most private and intimate, separated from the world, holy lives. Thank God for my parents who gave me a life under God's WORD under no one else's.

I left their church when I grew up, but I never left them, God be praised. And they never left me, never until this day in my, let's face the fact, old, age.

So let people call out what they want*, for me to live is Christ and for me to die will be eternal life continued.

* ROTFL roll over then fall for laughter!

Hi Chris!
Yes indeedy-doo...we (Gentiles) were never invited to the Hebrew Law and, we are now free in Christ, amen!
Since the days of the week did not begin until the Babylonians named them. Who is to say that Saturday should be set aside? Why can it not be that we work for 6 days, and rest on the 7th day, no matter what day of the week it is? How is it that one who believes that Saturday is their Sabbath is correct as, no "days of the week" were even in existence then? I know that Seventh Day Adventists really cling to this one law...and believe that if we do not repent before Jesus returns, we have broken all the Laws GIVEN to the JEW'S...how do we know which day God began creation?

I'm finding this thread a little confusing. View attachment 8082
Being as Winnie the Pooh , a bear of very little brain...What are we actually discussing? Or this this a continuation of some other thread?

Oh stop! You have a wonderful brain! You have the "mind" of Christ, lol...you are almost as bad as myself with the "intellectual" because, I am not the sharpest tack in the box, that's for sure! Some of the deep things of God just plain exceed my understanding, so...I pray for understanding. We are to come to Him as a child anyhow, and He WILL reveal His will for our lives weather or not we know Hebrew, or Greek language. I do so want to be able to study these languages yet, I do not feel "smart" enough to do so so, I will keep things simple and He will reveal as He knows where our hearts are

You believe that?? I guess if you posted it you must do.
Grace I agree is- " God's ability in us to do what we can't do" ( Strong's)
But Grace is much more than that...without Grace we could never SEE the revelation of The Father...it is all By Grace..through Faith...
Not "Just" to enable us to keep the law!!!
Everything is all about HIM, God is the centre, not our law keeping or anything else...it's not about us...the whole bible is about God! Grace abounds!!

Indeed; I am a Gentile Jew, what now?

Galatians 3:28
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
So, you are a Messianic Jew?

We are freed from the Law and are now under His grace. Do you not accept His grace and freedom in Him?
