Following on from my last post about the lame man walking, and I say this advisedly because I come under this umbrella, the religious leaders were flummoxed. I mean these men are uneducated and untrained. Perish the thought. So what is the angle here?

Mumble. mumble, mumble. All we can come up with is that they had been with Jesus,. HALLELUJAH!! What a qualification. Have you been with Jesus lately?

But, but, but....no buts. The lame man that was, he was there with them standing, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN HIS LIFE.

What can we say? Ah, er, nothing. A miracle had silenced them. Not a 50-minute sermon. A miracle.

"We got to have the last word guys. Go outside you guys, we want to do some talking."

"All we can do is tell them to shut up and don't speak to anyone in the name of Jesus." (Not the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

So they call them back in and tell them what they expect them to not do.

Their response...... Up yours. We can only tell the people what we have SEEN and HEARD. So you go and work that one out for yourself.

The people glorified God for what had happened so what could they do? The people knew the way the cookie crumbled so we can hardly say its all rubbish.

So the disciples went back to where the others were and reported to them what had happened. if the truth was known they probably did a little dance to celebrate. AND THEN THEY PRAYED.

Lord, look on their threats (was that another up yours?) and give us BOLDNESS (Filling of the Holy Spirit) to speak your word....BY stretching out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders will be done through the name of Jesus. Not by their name or the name of the father, son, and the holy spirit. NO, the name of Jesus.

Did God answer their prayers? You bet. The place was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit AND they spoke the Word with boldness.

Message received and understood.

Just a quick question. When was the last time your church had a prayer meeting and the place was shaken and everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit?

The footprint followers of Jesus, and "original" (First Century) New Testament Church Leaders, who learned at the Master’s Feet, preached and taught the Truth. Man-made theology and all sorts of changes came later.

Therefore, to get to the Truth, according to God’s Word, one MUST return to the Apostles Doctrine.

Acts Chapter 2 (KJV)
[36] Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
[37] Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
[39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
[40]And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
[41] Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
[42] And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

God bless!
Ugggg....more vague statements and more of YOUR theology.

I have read your pasts posts and you are what you are complaining of; a Man Made Religion with man made theology.

Thank you for your time.

God's word is what decides if changes were made. For example, find ONE scripture in the authorized King James Version of the Holy Bible TEXT:

(1) with the word "TRINITY" in it;

(2) which contains any one of the following “KEY” phrases (designated within the “quotation marks”, below) that people have been indoctrinated and taught to use in their description of ... and/or reference to ... God, or the Godhead:

a) "TRIUNE GOD"
b) "God IN THREE PERSONS"
c) "God THE Son"
d) "God THE Holy Spirit" (or "God THE Holy Ghost"); OR

(3) where anyone was baptized any where in the New Testament with the following “words” from Matthew 28:19 repeated over them, “in the NAME of the Father, AND of the Son, AND of the Holy Ghost”. (These "titles" are used by virtually every religious denomination and/or independent, autonomous, congregation, today, including BOTH Catholics and Protestants, regardless of whether they baptize by sprinkling or complete immersion).

God bless!
Hi user,

From which man did you learn this? Are you using someone else’s theology Or did you come up with this theology?

THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH UNDER FIRE.
I have been doing some background research on the NTC and found out some very interesting details. Initially, they had to deal with three enemies. The Romans; Herod Antipas; the High Priest/Sanhedrin.

Overall, living in the time of the Roman Occupation was not nice as anyone could be charged with anything and if the Roman Governor decided that he wanted to be rid of the person, then they died whether they were guilty or innocent.

The Sanhedrin hated Jesus with a vengeance because he challenged everything that they stood for.

And Herod Antipas was only interested in getting as much power as he could so siding with Rome was to his advantage.

Rome, in particular, was worried that Jesus was going to cause an uprising and cause his followers to rebel against Rome. He had no idea that rebellion was so far from the disciple's minds, it would never happen but as he was afraid of the power of Jesus, there was a danger for him under every rock.

For the Sanhedrin, the status quo was what was important as they stood to lose a lot of power if things changed.

And Herod Antipas thought he was going to lose out big time if Jesus came and took over his patch.

So you had a lot of worried people who thought about themselves more than they thought about others.

As we know on the day of Pentecost, 3,000 were added to the church and after than God added to the church daily. In other words, The Way as they were know were becoming a formidable force. But their power was not the power of military might. Their power was the power of the Holy Spirit which came upon them in the upper room and later on everyone on the day of Pentecost.

That wasn't a visible power as such as you could see an army on the move. It was invisible but at the same time very obvious by the things that happened through the believers, like the lame man being able to walk for the first time. That in a sense was more powerful than a mighty army.

The frustration for all those against the new believers was that there was nothing tangible to attack. One of the reasons why the church grew as it did was the supernatural being evident. People saw God in action doing what no mortal could do and as people got healed the numbers joining them grew. Whilst the early Christians lacked temporal resources (they were not rolling in money as our name it and claim it or our prosperity preachers are keen on) they were not short on spiritual power. That was more effective in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ than lots of money. Who needs an evangelistic campaign. Just get the Holy Spirit to perform a few healings.

What could Rome and the others do to stop them? They told them that they were not to teach or preach in the name of Jesus. Why did they do that Simple? They recognised the power of that name. Shut them up and they had nothing. But they were told in no uncertain terms that they would not remain silent.

Peter and John said to them that they could not but speak the things which they had seen and heard. Have you seen or heard anything lately that you can talk about? If you haven't perhaps your church needs to get out a bit more and go to where the needs are and see a few miracles happen by the Holy Spirit.

The disciples went back to the other believers and reported what had happened. Then the first thing they did was pray.

"Have a look at their threats, give us boldness to speak your word, stretch out your hand to heal and do signs, and wonders through the name of Jesus."

That was some prayer because the place they were in was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God with boldness. When was the last time you had a prayer meeting like that? If not why not?

One has to ask do we realise just how powerful the name of Jesus is? Not the titles of the trinity but the name of Jesus. If God has given him a name that is above every name and at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, what is holding us back? it is there for the taking and it doesn't happen because we don't take.

I admit I have to laugh when churches say they believe this and they believe that and they believe the other. The fact is all they need to believe is that Jesus Christ is Lord and through that name everything can be achieved.

You would? This is what it involves.

NUMBER ONE. Acts 2. men and brethren what shall we do. Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sin and you shall receive the holy spirit.

In other words, there is an entrance fee. It starts with repentance to deal with sin in your life. If you are an unbeliever, you will have sin so starting with repentance is essential as it means that is dealt with. Once you have repented, you can then have it washed away through baptism. That is total immersion in water.

Those two things open the door to the Holy Spirit of God to come into your life and take over. He will give you the power to live a sanctified and separated life.

NUMBER TWO. You have repented, been baptized and received the Holy Spirit, what comes next. You have become part of God's ecclesia, God's family, so you start meeting together and living like a family. You don't leave your existing family. What you do is meet from house to house each day with others who are part of God's ecclesia and take part in four things.

The first is teaching. We want you to know just how you live as a new believer so we will teach you how that is done. Those that have been with Jesus will teach you.

The second is fellowship. That is an important part of your growth as you can bounce things off each other and let everyone know how you are going on a day to day basis. You will learn a lot by doing this. And it helps to get to know each other in a more intimate way.

The third is eating together. Have a meal when you meet together. Everyone brings something to contribute to a meal. Having a meal is good because it opens the door to conversation.

The fourth thing is to pray together. Help one another by bearing one another's burdens in prayer. You will all have different things to deal with on a day to day basis so prayer is one way you can help each other overcome the issues you are confronted with.
‘they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread (The Lord’s supper) and prayer...and The Lord added to their number daily’.

They didn't have bibles. They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching. Mark 16:15 – Jesus commands the apostles to preach the Gospel to every creature. But Jesus did not want this preaching to stop after the apostles died, and yet the Bible was not compiled until four centuries later. The word of God was transferred orally.

They had been taught how to ‘break bread’ the apostles teaching-Levi, John Mark?, Luke & John were more than likely present (Luke wrote the book)

Breaking of bread = a meal.

No one needs to be taught to prepare a meal and feed people.

Ummmmmmmmm, someone SHOULD teach them how it's to be done:

1 Thess. 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. 11 For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work in quietness and to earn their own living. 13 Brethren, do not be weary in well-doing.

14 If any one refuses to obey what we say in this letter, note that man, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. 15 Do not look on him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

Now if a person isn't able to feed himself through no fault of his own, then have pity on him. But don't be a fool and allow a ne're do good to take advantage of you.

As the passage in 1 Corinthians shows, that is OK as there were some i.e slaves and widows who could not contribute to the communal meal. The better-off were being reprimanded because they would not wait until these people arrived before eating.

And I am reading a book at the moment that outlines the living conditions of people in Jerusalem after the day of Pentecost when people were being added daily to The Way. They joined together for the communal meals daily (breaking of bread) and the orphans had no means whereby they could contribute anything but they were fed on the same terms as those who could contribute. In other words, they had all things in common.

a meal of rememberence?
Do you believe that the ‘rememberence’ meal was only replicated during Passover? (the text suggests that Levi, John Mark? Luke and John may have met daily) OR, could HIS eyewitnesses, have dedicated each meal according to HIS command? Taking into account Who HE was/is.

Having studied New Testament life and Jewish traditions and actions, the Passover meal was once a year and those who became members of The Way as they were know did not stop being Jewish so they met daily for food and fellowship and they met once a year to celebrate the Passover Meal. They did not meet monthly, weekly, or daily for communion as it would have been a totally foreign concept to them.

Hospitality was a big thing in those days and unless they refused you, you always put a spread before your visitors as a matter of courtesy. Especially as some may have travelled a long way walking, so they would appreciate some food and drink to refresh them.

And with the vast numbers of people joining The Way, some were outcasts, orphans or widows so they appreciated the meals provided by the members of The Way as that was one way the people noticed how they loved each other.
