“ Abraham BELIVED God and it was Counted unto him as Righteousness”........

Yup. And yet.....

GENESIS 26 [3] Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I WILL PERFORM THE OATH WHICH I SWARE UNTO ABRAHAM thy father; [4] And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; [5] BECAUSE THAT ABRAHAM OBEYED MY VOICE, and kept my charge, MY COMMANDMENTS, my statutes, and MY LAWS.

Certainly. But does the scripture say that he was justified by his keeping of the law, or does it say that he was justified when he believed God?

As it is written in stone, it condemns the unbeliever as a standard that they cannot keep.

The believer is not under the law (Romans 6:14) is dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and is delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as it is written on stone (2 Corinthians 3:3).

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1-a, John 5:24 (kjv)).
You miss the point jbf, but you don't see it

The Reason Paul said the Pharisees and others of the Jewish Faith were Damned was because......

MATTHEW 5 [17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18] For verily I say unto you, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, ONE JOT OR ONE TITTLE SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, till all be fulfilled. [19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. [20] For I say unto you, That EXCEPT YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALL EXCEED THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

In Matt.5 we see that the law WILL NOT pass until heaven and earth pass. I think we can all agree that the earth is still here. We are also told in Matt.5 that our righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the scribes and phariees. Whys that BB53?

LUKE 12 [1] In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, BEWARE YE OF THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES, WHICH IS HYPOCRISY.

Scripture above does not say the leaven of the pharisees was the keeping of Gods 10 commandments. Its hypocrisy. They were hypocrits.

MATTHEW 23 [1] Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, [2] Saying, THE SCRIBES AND THE PHARISEES SIT IN MOSES' SEAT: [3] ALL THEREFORE WHATSOEVER THEY BID YOU OBSERVE, THAT OBSERVE AND DO; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. [4] For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. [5] But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Jesus commanded us to do what the scribes and pharisees tell us to do. But the scribes and pharisees are not doing what they tell us to do. They are hypocrits.

He was not saved (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). And it was his stepmother.

Walking into a church doesn't make you a Christian any more than walking into a McDonald's makes you a hamburger.

Also, are you in some way, shape, or form, denying the message of Romans 5:19?

What was the guy doing in Paul’s Church if he were not a Saved Believer ? I guess Paul lacked the Spiritual Insight to know a Tare when he saw one.

That is a very weak argument...

Of course Paul dealt with the tare when it began to bear the wrong kind of fruit.

And Jesus also, did He not say that the wheat and the tares would be left to grow together until the harvest?

That is great to hear....
I’m sure God was pleased with the Obedience Of Abraham....I’m sure God’s Grace covered the many times he was DISobedient.....regardless of his obedience or the lack of it, he was SAVED by his Faith ...

Good point....but the way this Carnal Believer was treated by the congregation convinces me the foolish man was a man who was “ caught up in a sin” as Paul described others in Galatians—- the ones That Paul told the better behaved Church Members to not get carried away with in regard to their chastisement of the Back- Slider. He let them know that the next time , “ THEY” might be the guilty party....

When I was growing up in mid-20th century America, the ten commandments were the standard of morality for Christians. My Southern Baptist grandmother often asked me to mow her lawn (about an acre). But she would never allow me to do it on Sunday.

Lately, I'm hearing more and more about a doctrine which states that the ten commandments were nailed to the cross and that the Holy Spirit has replaced them. I recently asked my very aged father about this and he said that he'd never even heard of such a thing.

What happened?
"On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, You shall love your neighbour as yourself." "(Matt 22:37-40).

The first 4 commandments relate to love for God, the last five relate to love for neighbor, and the middle one relates both to love for God and love for neighbor.

The ten commandments are part of the law which cannot be obeyed through human effort. There is only one way of fulfilling the ten commandments - by believing in Christ and abiding in Him:

"I am the vine;
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me and I in him,
he it is that bears much fruit,
for apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

"..it is God who works in you,
both to will and to work
for his good pleasure,”
(Philippians 2:13)

This is what Jeremiah means by the law of God written on our hearts, and abiding in the vine is based on (a) faith in Jesus; and (b) submitting to Him and to His authority over us. The extent to which we obey the commandments therefore is directly related to the extent to which those of us who believe in Jesus submit to His Lordship over us - and there are many things which we can do which cause us to fail at the second part (I fail all too much - this is not preaching, just stating what I believe).

I also believe Jesus is our Sabbath, and here's why:

1. The heavens and the earth were created by and through the Word of God (Jesus). Adam was in Christ, and because the Spirit of God had breathed life into Adam, he was a living soul. He had a body and a soul, but became a living soul with eternal life when God breathed life into him - this is why Jesus said that unless we are born (Greek: gennoa) from above (Greek: anothen) we will not see the Kingdom of God. Adam died spiritually when he sinned, and we are born of the flesh into Adam and will not see the Kingdom of God unless we are born of the Spirit into the last Adam, the Son of Man, the Son of God, who is Christ the Lord.

2. Before Adam's sin there was permanent rest, because Adam was in Christ. To put it in plain English: Was God going to "go back to work" after He rested on the seventh day?

I believe Christ is our sabbath, and the ten commandments (love for God and love for neighbor) are the fruit of Christ in us if we are abiding in Him and submitting fully to His authority.

MATT.22 [35] Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, [36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?[37] Jesus said unto him, THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.[38] This is the first and great commandment.[39] And the second is like unto it, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF.[40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Why do you believe that we no longer need keep Gods 10 commandments because of what Jesus said in Matthew?

DEUT.6 [5] And THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THINE HEART, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.[6] And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart [17] Ye shall diligently KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

Jesus was only quoting scriptures from the old testament. And as you can see in above scripture the way to love GOD is to keep diligently the commandments.

1JOHN 5 [2] By this we know that we love the children of God, WHEN WE LOVE GOD, AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.[3] For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

And the new testament verifies the old testament as to how we are to show our love for God? In the new testament book of John. When we love God, we keep His commandments.

LEV.19 [17] Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.[18] Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF: I am the LORD.

Again (thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself) Jesus is quoting scripture from the old testament. Do you agree that the people who lived in old testament times were under the 10 commandments. Of course they were. So why when Jesus quotes old testament scripture do you think the 10 commandments are now done away with?

2JOHN1 [5] And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that WE LOVE ONE ANOTHER.[6] AND THIS IS LOVE, THAT WE WALK AFTER HIS COMMANDMENTS. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

In John, you can read how we are to love our neighbour according to the NEW TESTAMENT. It’s the same way that it says in the old testament. KEEP GODS 10 COMMANDMENTS. Jesus is the same today, yesterday and forever.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

And what is sin?

1 JOHN 3 [4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.

Do the math. Cant transgress something we are not to follow

For my simple Trust in the Gospel Of 1Cor15:1-4 Plus NOTHING !!!.....

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV)
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

What you ignore .... {according to scripture}

According to scripture Jesus was 3 days AND 3 nights in the heart of the earth. Could you tell me how friday evening to sunday morn equals 3 days and 3 nights

MATT.22 [35]
Why do you believe that we no longer need keep Gods 10 commandments because of what Jesus said in Matthew?

I did explain it.

"I am the vine;
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me and I in him,
he it is that bears much fruit,
for apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

"..it is God who works in you,
both to will and to work
for his good pleasure,”
(Philippians 2:13)

Jesus fulfilled the Law by loving completely when He took the transgression of the Law and the sin of man upon Himself - hence the Law was abolished in His flesh, just as Paul stated - and just as Jeremiah stated, the new covenant is not like (or according to) the old covenant - because that covenant has been broken by the people.

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. As I have loved you, you should also love one another. John 13:34

And now I beseech you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. 2 John 1:5

Brothers, I do not write a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have heard from the beginning. Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true Light now shines.
He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness until now. 1 John 2:7-9

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
For: "Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not bear false witness; do not lust;" and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Love works no ill to its neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:8-10

For all the Law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Galatians 5:14

If you fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well. James 2:8

Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:36-40.

All the rest of the law and the prophets that hang on those two commandments, have been abolished in the flesh of Christ because he perfectly and completely fulfilled all the law and the prophets when He died on the cross for us.

This is why Jeremiah stated that the New Covenant is not like the old - it does not go according to the old - it is the new commandment written on the heart by God Himself (which is the above commandment).

The ten commandments are fulfilled in the one who keeps the one commandment Jesus gave, and it's Christ in you bringing forth His fruit.

"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." (Galatians 3.24-26)

Paul is of course addressing the church at Galatia, here.

Think about it! its not Math, What is the law?

Mathew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

By all means elaborate on the point.
God's Commandments, the Ten of which are a brief summary of all that God is, is and has always intended to be in the heart. God gave (revealed) them in Eden and late reiterated them to Israel writing them on stone tablets for all to objectively see. These Commandments are enduring as God himself and are the very point which Satan finds offence at because they are at odds with his inclinations. They are offensive because they point out Sin to the one who wants to deny sin.

The expression, 'Jesus fulfilled the Law' is to be understood in two ways. As touching the ceremonial laws he was the anti type of them being the type....he was the reality these pointed to.

As touching the Decalogue he fulfilled these also and continues to fulfil them and will never stop fulfilling them because they reveal his reality.
Those who have Jesus in their heart desires to fulfilled his Laws just as he fulfils them and so his Laws are in their hearts.

To use an example; if you as a Law abiding citizen obey the speed limit you are then fulfilling that law which continues to have validity. It doesn't stop being the speed limit because you've kept to it. You don't say, Oh, now that I've kept the law I've done my part and it can be done away with....that view is just totally at odds with its purpose and intent. It is an immature and a rebellious way of seeing.

Now, let me cut to the chase.....it is the Command to Remember to Sabbath day to keep it Holy that is the primary offending Commandment for those wanting to get rid of God's Law.....It is the Commandment which says I have stopped my work and have given this time so I can spend it with you. The highest honour that one can give another is to spend time with them. The very next day after creating Adam God gave him a full 24 hrs to commune with him without interruption. That is a high honour and he has asked us to not forget it.

@quietthinker,

Do you feel that spending time with God must be legalistically accomplished every Saturday or can it be done for a specific amount of time every day of the week for some?

As it is written in stone, it condemns the unbeliever as a standard that they cannot keep.
The believer is not under the law (Romans 6:14) is dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and is delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as it is written on stone (2 Corinthians 3:3).
There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1-a, John 5:24 (kjv)).

As it is written in stone, it condemns the unbeliever as a standard that they cannot keep.
The Law however wherever written, being the Law-OF-GOD condemns the believer as the unbeliever IRRESPECTIVE as a standard that NO ONE keeps, ever kept or will keep. That is the BARE fact of the matter. Proud ‘believers’ of course shall beg to differ.

The believer is not under the law (Romans 6:14) is dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and is delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as it is written on stone (2 Corinthians 3:3).
Being “delivered from the Law as it is written on stone : Being-Dead in sin”, means just the SAME AS the Edenic Law when Adam got trapped by the devil despite God had warned him, “If you eat .. you shall DIE” in Genesis 2:17 and meant the same ever since.

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1-a, John 5:24 (kjv)).
… kept OUT of their just and rightful recompense which is the CONDEMNATION OF DEATH. That God’s Law passed away and you’re not under it, is in vain trying to fool yourself! Man cannot flee from, or, for the Word of GOD.
