It tells us in the two places in the Bible where it talks about making your calling and election sure.
Hebrews 6:10-12
9Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the
things that have to do with salvation.
10God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and
the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
11We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized.
12We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through
faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
Hebrews 10:32-34
32Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you
endured in a great conflict full of suffering.
33Sometimes you were
publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you
stood side by side with those who were so treated.
34You
suffered along with those in prison and
joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
2 Peter 1:5-11
5For this very reason, make every effort to
add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,
knowledge;
6and to knowledge,
self-control; and to self-control,
perseverance; and to perseverance,
godliness;
7and to godliness,
mutual affection; and to mutual affection,
love.
8For
if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10Therefore, my brothers and sisters,
a make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you
do these things, you will never stumble,
11and
you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Now compare all this to what Jesus said in Matthew 25:31-46 and see how similar it is....
31“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34“Then
the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40“The King will reply,
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41“Then
he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45“He will reply,
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
You can see the works of the do-good atheist don't exactly measure up to the works of the genuine Christian. Christians have works that are exclusive to real Christians with real faith. Works that Christ will use to judge who belongs to him and who does not when he comes back. Only real Christians love the body of Christ. Christians who think their dead faith is the faith that saves need to realize they have been lied to by the churches that teach this. Dead faith will be judged as NO faith when Jesus comes back.
