This seems to be a legitimate question. I run into it more and more and I think it is one of many topics that fuels hatred because those that indulge in recreational pharmaceuticals are tired of being looked down at. They want society to accept them as drug abusers, as a norm. And of course this goes on into other pervasive beliefs and activities.

So I had a co-worker come up and tell me: "This next generation is going to the lose the concept of time."

I immediately recognized that this person had been "smoking" the evening before. So I queried: How's that? -- He pointed to this digital wrist watch and said: "no sweep hand" and smiled knowingly, as though there were no sand-hour-glass, or sun-dial, or any other source of time including an empty stomach.

A lot of people use different drugs "looking within" to find TRUTH, but we have no truth within us. GOD is the Source of ALL TRUTH, and if we seek HIM, HE will reveal the Foundations of Creation.

With Best Regards,
Bobby Jo

If it's for recreation and abuse, then I don't think it's compatible with a fruitful relationship with God. But if it's for legitimate medical use, than I don't see an issue with it.

Much love!

I hope you all share the same opinions about alcohol? Alcohol is by far a more dangerous drug; it kills more people, destroys more families and ruins more careers than every other drug combined. Again, be careful when you condemn certain practices; you may be engaged in other practices that are even worse, but you rationalize that they are not so bad.

What about cigarettes? I have Christian friends who can't seem to give it up for longer than a few years. As soon as something stressful comes along in their lives, that is the first thing they turn to - not God.

It is interesting the wisdom in "Moderation in all things, but I will not become a slave to anything." For instance, 2 drinks a day can lower LDL, and more than that can higher LDL.

Marijuana is not a good drug to take. I have taken it when I was young and it didn't do any good for me. I would think a glass of wine would be better as it doesn't have long term effects and can induce relaxation and some pain relief.

I have a funny story about kidney stones. And when I was in the hospital for them I became a believer in intravenous demerol. I am talking water on the fire of pain. While I was in there one of my church kids was my nurse....(sprang up from 3 foot to 5.7...time flies.) Anyway, fresh out of college she gave me the history of opioids. Good to have a Christian nurse. She explained that opioids are Satan way of get at those that would not normally be interested in drugs. And indeed opioids are an epidemic among the "older class." So now in my medical record it is stated on the first page...NO ADDICTIVE PAIN KILLERS.

When you smoke marijuana if has certain affects on mind and body. If you know some that have smoked a lot...besides their smell, it changes their voice...style of speech...way of thinking, literally their mind. The drug mind...it is amazing a the drug could have a character and a mind permanent mind altering affect that seem to be constant with most pot smokers.

I have had fun with pot smokers, I rode Harley choppers for most of my life. I understand the doobie around the campfire...lol...it is like the Indian Peace Pipe. I use to have a neighbor and him and his wife smoked pot, kind of like people that drink wine in the evening, and he would come over to play chess with me. He admittedly was doing that because he wanted to make sure that the pot was not making him stupid. lol Of course he knew me and what I was... So one evening he comes over with some news....his wife was pregnant with their first child....and the topic turned to where he was going to hide the pot with a child in house and how him and his wife was going to hide their pot smoking from there child. I listened for a while and then reached over the chess board and slapped the snot out of him. I went to my bedroom and grabbed one of the Gideons and by the time I came back he had picked himself off the floor and I threw the Bible on the table and said, Start with page one. Two beautiful people made one beautiful little girl and I was her Godfather.

Now the problem with pot is that it does the same thing if you use it for recreation or "medicinal purposes." And it sets the same example for kids or grand kids whether you are smoking it for recreation or "medicinal purposes." And it has the same affect when you are driving whether you are smoking it for recreation or "medicinal purposes." Had a guy delivering furniture to my house. He was sitting in his pickup truck and I went over to talk to him, when I stuck my head in the window I smelled that his truck reeked of pot. I chuckled and said, Like the pot ahhh!?
He quickly commented that he had a prescription for pot or had a card. And I replied, And the prescription specifically requires you to smoke pot while you are driving? I know that in the "Wide World of Sports" that not all people that smoke marijuana for medicinal purposes are pot heads, I just never met one....and the funny thing is, they think people cannot tell.

Did you know that morphine is not a painkiller really....it puts you in a state of mind that you just don't care. We have all these people running around with prescriptions for pot because that is the only thing that will work for them...Maybe there are a few, but not this many. Justification is the door to sin and evil. Every evildoer out there justifies what they do, no matter what sin it is. If you are a Christian you are under the conviction of the Word of God. Be careful what you justify.

Right, alcohol and vehicles, each kills more people than pot, that is a fact. But the drug culture is a lot different. You are going to find a lot more casual drinkers that are not alcoholics than casual pot smokers that are not pot heads. Pot does that to you. You are going to pay that money for pot and not get stoned? They say that marijuana is not addictive...put in the long run, I disagree. They say it is a gateway drug, why do they say that? Well it is the culture that it puts you in. Are you going to have a church group over for dinner and smoke pot? Poor man's philosophy...Birds of a feather flock together...and in those flocks marijuana is for beginners....they have something better for you.

An Evidence-Based Review of Acute and Long-Term Effects of Cannabis Use on Executive Cognitive Functions
DOI: 10.1097/ADM.0b013e31820c23fa
Abstract
Cannabis use has been shown to impair cognitive functions on a number of levels-from basic motor coordination to more complex executive function tasks, such as the ability to plan, organize, solve problems, make decisions, remember, and control emotions and behavior. These deficits differ in severity depending on the quantity, recency, age of onset and duration of marijuana use. Understanding how cannabis use impairs executive function is important. Individuals with cannabis-related impairment in executive functions have been found to have trouble learning and applying the skills required for successful recovery, putting them at increased risk for relapse to cannabis use. Here we review the research on the acute, residual, and long-term effects of cannabis use on executive functions, and discuss the implications for treatment.

While I don't condone slapping the snot out of anyone, sounds like he took it well and changed his ways. That's good for their baby!!

Personally, I think it's best not to take drugs or drink alcohol. Now, I'm not condemning anyone by saying this, so please don't anyone get your knickers in a twist. But all drugs, even OTC's, have their damaging side effects.

I think you may be wrong - there are more alcoholics than there are marijuana abusers. In fact, marijuana addiction occurs at a very low frequency - look up the statistics. Alcohol is the true gateway drug, most people start out drinking alcohol and then progress to other drugs. "All things in moderation" - this should be are 'mantra' (excuse the reference to an eastern religion).
Lol, hopefully not EVERYTHING in moderation. Don't take poison, even a little!

All true, but have you read about the impairments from alcohol use - much worse. And, much of these effects of marijuana are short-lived, they disappear after discontinued use. Alcohol use has long term negative health effects in addition to short-term cognitive impairments: Liver damage, heart disease, kidney failure, high blood pressure, etc. etc.

I thought this thread was about pot. Maybe you could start one on alcohol abuse and we can talk about that too.

Did you read the abstract? Marijuana use can and does have longterm effects on the brain. Also, smoking pot damages the throat and lungs.... Any kind of smoking does this.

Well some say I am too violent, but it is effective, I have proven that. Tough love. A review of the Old Testament will teach a lesson in violence. Violence is not evil, it is the intent and reason for violence. Some of us spank our kids, some say that is violent. Did slapping my friend save a child from a life of drugs? Who knows. Did it end a friendship? No it did not, and it never has. Sometimes you have to go that extra mile. If you want to convict me of being too violent...guilty as charged...no apologies...no offense taken.

Huh?? I was more or less agreeing with what you were saying about drugs. I only added alcohol in because I think it's best to avoid that too. Again, I'm not condemning anyone, and I do believe that Jesus and the disciples drank wine. Of course, Jesus never got drunk. Paul tells us not to get drunk.... and for good reason.

Is it right for a Christian to hold a Bible in one hand and a doobie in the other?
OP^

LOL- I had to look up the word "doobie".
I would suppose it would depend on circumstances.

No different than a cup of coffee, it’s all bug spray same as cigarettes, the caffeine THC NICOTINE, in small quantities stimulates us. The plants produce it to repel bugs. Lol,,,,,
