Aw thanks, @quietthinker ! Yep! 1/1/17. :) Just passed four years.

Should have celebrated with a virgin piña colada! Oh well maybe next year
It is never too late to celebrate many years sober. :) One day at a time permits celebrating any day. Because after that day that was your 4 year sober anniversary, you are then 4 years and day after day, sober.
Basically, it is never too late to celebrate and enjoy a virgin PC. ;) :) (HUGS) Congratulations on your long sobriety.

There is a great natural homeopathic remedy available at any health food store. The manufacturer is, Boiron. Any store will find it for you. A friend of mine went that route and hasn't smoked again in the past 20 years.
This link may assist you too. boiron stop smoking homeopathic remedy - Google Search

*A note about homeopathic remedies* For the best results and full absorption of the remedy properties, do not touch the little pellets with your hands. All homeopathic remedies, regardless of manufacturer make the lid on the remedy able to hold the pellets. With Boiron HR's, the lid is especially made for this. Just twist the lid when the vile is upside down and the proper dosage of pellet will fall into the lid. Turn the lid back the other way, while the vile is upside down still and to close it. Then pull the little clear plastic lid off and pop the pellet under your tongue. Let it dissolve. Do not wash it down with water. Sublingual (under the tongue) is the fastest route to the bloodstream.

Another thing, do not eat or drink anything 30 minutes before or after you take the pellets. Food and fluids, save for water, will coat the tongue, and under the tongue where the pellets are absorbed, therein blocking the full draw of the remedy properties into the bloodstream.

Homeopathic remedies do work. I can attest to that though I've never smoked and have no experience there.

As you know when you stop smoking you get the munchies because the influx of nicotine helps suppress appetite. Once the body is deprived of nicotine it starts to crave sugars and proteins to rebuild what the smoking did to the body.
A great solution for the munchies, because it is very easy to gain weight after stopping smoking, is to have with you at all times little bags of healthy munchies. Carrot sticks, celery sticks, cut fruit, etc... When your body starts to crave food, munch healthy. And don't forget to drink lots of water to hydrate your body.

Thanks, @WaterSong! Looks like it is Boiron Lobelia Inflata. I'll look into it more. I will have my virgin pina colada soon, too :D

If I gain weight, I'll be glad. haha It's one of my reasons for quitting. Nicotine suppresses the appetite. I'm 4'11/98 lbs now. I am hoping to get up to 117 with strength training. Been having a lot of peanut butter oatmeal lately ...

I started smoking LONG before I actually started walking with God. It was actually never my choice. I hated smoking. I don't want to get into that story too much. Basically, it was a bad situation and it was forced on me. I got addicted and then I quit, and then I didn't know how to cope with certain things and started again on my own at 19.

I quit again and again and again, and for six days at the beginning of this month, but without any emotional support besides a different forum - but it didn't give me any Christian support/comfort that I was kind of craving and then in real life there was zero emotional support. Actually it was the opposite and more of just constant criticism.

Now after being here I feel like I have a little more emotional support with dealing with certain things so I'm ready to try again.

I don't really have a point. Just wanted to share.

I have seen heroin addicts kick easier than a smoker. Strong pull of the flesh but it is just tobacco over whatever the drug addiction. A made up mind (which you seem to have), lots of lollypops. Don't give up just keep trying and the mind trip will get easier. If you fail, brush yourself off get up and try again and beat it. Once you have the first one the rest of the day is too just hard. Don't have a first one and the rest of the day is easier.

You made a statement that that you quit and started again because you couldn't cope with certain things and started again on my own at 19. That doesn't matter, you are not supposed to know anything at 19 or how to cope. Point is it don't matter, what matters is you want to quit. So look at your situation and try to get focused on what you want to do. Not necessary really how you got there but you are there. You may have to smack yourself around a little to get your own attention. What I mean is Paul said I beat my body into subjection. I don't know what all he is talking about but he had something very different in mind. So when you feel the urge punch yourself in the face ha just kidding. But serious when you feel the urge, get to work. There is a lot of coping mechanisms to help someone quit. Of coarse prayer and ask the Lord to help you, whether it is a pill or miracle a doctor or just old fashion grit you can do it. Don't be fooled by your mind or body you can do it.

I thought of a story an old bubby told me how he quit. When he would get to where he just couldn't fight it he would say "ok Lord we are getting ready to have a cigarette" and he would smoke. He said eventually it got a little easier and he could quit. Not saying that would work for everyone but I thought about him when I read your story.

Took me mnay years of prayer and quitting and restarting and quitting....... Don't give up asking god to bring you to freedom in this. When the time is right, you will quit.

Hi Fluffyyellowduck
Now I am not a smoker, but all my children were, oh one still is.
My youngest has just given up again, he started up again after his dad died. Last time he gave up he used a book by Alan Carr ‘ Easy way to stop smoking ‘. My daughter had read it and gave up one day and has never smoked again ( over ten years ). I was skeptical as to how a book could help, but last time, and this time, the giving up has been instant. The book explains the addiction and what really goes on when you smoke, once you understand that side it seems to help. As I said I would have remained skeptical had I not seen the effects of that understanding. My youngest does vape, but not with any form of nicotine - but last time he gave up he didn’t vape at all, my daughter doesn’t vape either. Rita

Stop trying ...stoppit, and don't listen to the critics ... just give it to the Lord and leave it with Him.

It is the same with all sins and bad habits, Jesus died on the cross to set you FREE ... just believe and it will come to pass.

Remember 1 John 1:9.

If you keep acknowledging the smoking God will keep forgiving and He will cleanse you--in His Time! took me many years but God finally broke though my cement head and got me to quit. 25 years ago and still smokelss. REjoice that your Father hears you and will respond!

@FluffyYellowDuck

I stopped smoking in an afternoon, by giving my smoking over to God to deal with. But there is more to that story than what I am sharing here.

What I lost on that afternoon were my cravings for smoking, and what I then did was substituted food for tobacco and gained lots of body weight.

I was on the road towards sleeplessness, with a 75/hr plus apnea problem without treatment, but God was still with me and my relationship with God did not change in that God was my protection, from the emotional triggers that others were forcing on me because of my grumpiness from a lack of sleep. In '96 the cause of my sleep apnea was diagnosed and a solution was provided. My condition was hereditary, and I can remember one of my grandfathers suffering from this problem.

It is our response to God that God is looking for within our circumstances and if we believe by faith, we depend on Him and He will never let us down.

May the Lord continue to draw you further into His Loving Embrace as you begin to recognise His presence with you in all that you do.

Shalom

I believe in you. My initial advice would be to eliminate three of the Devil's three best tools: fear (of people), shame, and guilt. No one can heal from much of anything if they suffer from fear, shame, and guilt. It seems that when a person sheds themselves of a guilty conscience, this is when it is easiest to move forward, and specifically, out of addiction.

Keep in mind that everyone is addicted to something . . . so I say we should all just get over it. No need to worry about what others think if you already understand that whoever is telling you about your problem, well . . . they've got their own. Some say that being addicted to alcohol is worse than being addicted to speeding. Alcoholism and driving a motorcycle at 200 mps both kill people and leave families without their mothers and/or fathers. My former friend traded in alcohol for one of those insane motorcycles . . . perplexing, isn't it?

By learning how to eliminate fear, shame, and guilt, you will have essentially killed off self-hatred in your life. Once a person conquers self-hatred, their entire life will begin to change. Life takes on a new direction, where others are considered more important than self. Here, in this place, it is finally so easy to discontinue those self-crushing addictions, such as smoking.

Like I said . . . I believe in you. For if you call upon the Name of the Lord, and first ask Him to assure you that your heart has been lifted of the Curse of Adam and Eve. With a Spiritually Circumcised Heart, you will overcome evil in your life, for the Lord will direct them to happen. I believe in you because I believe in the Power of God.

Now, go! The Lord is speaking to you through your own mind. Listen to him as you think you speak to yourself of what you should do . . . through your own mind and thoughts, God is teaching you. So be sure to do what you are being told through your moral thoughts. This is God speaking to you, so be sure to begin. Don't worry about being perfect, but think about just getting better. Always desire to be better!

Thank you! I am going to be doing a lot of cleaning today to get rid of the smell. I don't want it on me. Some teeth whitening and cleaning might help.

You're right about going back to it. After six days I lit up again and thought, "This is disgusting." Then I for whatever reason forced myself to smoke it anyway. WHY did I do that? I don't know!

FFM said that people with C-PTSD (which I may or may not have, but going to go with may from adulthood) have a tendency to destroy their own quit and relapse because they expect disappointment and would rather do it themselves. I think that's me and it's something to work on.
Hello @FluffyYellowDuck

You have made an interesting point here, and it reminds me of what is said about the effect that the giving of the law had. Paul said that he did not know 'lust' until the law said 'thou shalt not covert', and then sin took advantage of that commandment and wrought within him all manner of 'concupiscence' (or 'longing' ie., lust) (Romans 7:7-8). It seems that when we acknowledge something to be bad for us, and seek to do something about it, then the longing or lust for that substance increases and becomes so difficult to overcome. We are told that these are 'deceitful lusts' in Ephesians 4:22, which 'war against the soul' (or the whole person) in 1 Peter 2:11. They convince us that we 'need' something or 'must have' or 'do' something, when we do not need to have, or do, that 'something' at all. It is a deceitful lust.

God's means of overcoming this is by 'reckoning'. He says we are to reckon ourselves to be dead unto that 'need', that 'thing', that 'something', those 'deceitful', 'fleshly' lusts or longings (Romans 6:11), for although not sins in themselves they are nevertheless detrimental to the soul (or the whole person) in body, mind and spirit. A dead body is not capable of action, so we are to reckon our body incapable of responding to the longing which presents itself. Thereby we are able to be dead indeed unto that action, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:11).

* I hope this makes sense. :) You are not alone.

With love to you
In Christ Jesus
our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.
Chris

Hello again, @FluffyYellowDuck,

I apply this same principle (reply#36) to telephone scams, for when someone telephones me, telling me that my computer has a fault and I aught to go online and fix it under their direction, or that my account has been compromised and that in order to fix it I aught to ring a certain number, I play dead. I am dead to all requests for actions of any sort from unknown or suspect callers, for only in that way will I know that I am safe from those who would seek to steal money or information from me.

It would be easy to say that Satan is 'the thief' in regard to our fleshly lusts, but that is not so, for James 1:14 tells us that it is our own fleshly lusts which seek to entice us. We are indeed our own worst enemy aren't we? Thankfully we have the answer, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

With love in Christ Jesus
Chris

I vape. On the plus side, Monday will be the first day of the eighteenth year since I last touched a needle. I'm not where I'm going but thank You, Lord, that I'm not where I was.
