This is a very misunderstood topic. The righteousness of God has been lowered into something far less than miraculous and divine in our time. But let's give ourselves a chance to get things right.
I would like to begin by listing a few examples of the righteousness of God in action...from the bible.(I hope others will contribute as well)
The righteousness of God is a higher form of righteousness to the righteousness of men. They are related...but one is weak and the other is strong. One is temporal and the other is eternal.
the righteousness of man and the righteousness of God are clearly shown in:
Matthew 5:43-48 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you,
Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. [46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? [47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others ? do not even the publicans so? [48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
The righteousness of man “loves them which love you” ...as the publicans do the same. The righteousness of man “salutes your brethren only” ...doing no more than others. As the publicans do also.
But then there is the righteousness of God: “
Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”
The righteousness of man is that sown in stony ground ...written on tables of stone which “loves them which love you” and “salutes your brethren only” and when persecution and affliction arises(the time of temptation) for the Sake of God’s Righteousness ”Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” ...immediately man’s righteousness of loving those who love you and saluting the brethren only ... is immediately offended at love your enemies and those who curse you.
Mark 4:16-17 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; [17] And have no root in themselves, and
so endure but for a time: afterward,
when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
The great falling away being the revealing of man’s righteousness “so endures for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended” ...
Luke 8:13-14 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear,
receive the word with joy; and
these have no root, which
for a while believe, and
in time of temptation fall away. [14] And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and
bring no fruit to perfection.
”...
bring forth no fruit to perfection.” (Be perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.) Mark 4:8-9 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that
sprang up and increased; and
brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred. [9] And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
