How does your life experience inform your theology and doctrines?

On another thread I made this observation: "I find it interesting that our life experience informs our theology and doctrines." The person I was speaking with had a completely different life experience than mine. And these experiences had shaped their theology and doctrines. Have you given...

    The happy thread

My wife and I have been married for 45 years. A few years back we started referring to our anniversary as our Anniversaurus. [

Will you go to heaven when you die? - (or the other place)

It's not unusual for me to have brief conversations with family members that have gone on ahead. If something in my day reminds me of them I will say something like, "Hey Daddo, what do you think of that?" The questions are rhetorical. I don't expect a response. But a sort agreeable warm comes...

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

Sadly, the well-intentioned soul that wakes up in the morning thinking, "What can I do for the Lord today?" is off on the wrong foot. Even Jesus would not go where the Father had not directed Him. [

Ripped and Torn - What pages have you torn out of your Bible?

Yes, that's the tough question for Charismatics and Pentecostals. Do I walk away because of the abuses, or stay around to see that it's done right? It's still a pioneering work to regain what was lost. Prophecy takes on a different character in the New Testament. 1 Corinthians 14:2-4 NIV...

Will you go to heaven when you die? - (or the other place)

    - What is heaven? - Is that where we go when we die? - Do unbelievers go to hell instead? - Will there still be a heaven during the Millennium? - Will there still be a heaven after the new heavens and earth are created? [

The Gospel of Life - What life has taught you - God knew what you needed

The Gospel according to St. Matthew, the Gospel according to St. Mark, the Gospel according to St. Luke, the Gospel according to St. John... ... the Gospel according to St. SteVen. (hey, why not?) What's your story? What has God taught you through your unique life experiences? ]

Jesus said His sheep will hear His voice. Are you listening? This way beyond Bible reading. IMHO [

Ripped and Torn - What pages have you torn out of your Bible?

I should add that I didn't get dramatic about the message I had to deliver. I told the recipient when the message had come to me and that (I thought) it was from the Lord. It was a puzzle piece. It was up to her to determine whether it was fitting or not. I haven't heard one way or the other...

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

Aha... That's an interesting point. There was no Bible (new testament canon) when that was written. So... what was the "the word of God (Christ)" in that time frame? [ cc: @complete

Ripped and Torn - What pages have you torn out of your Bible?

Interesting post. Thanks. It sent me to the book of Hosea to reread the Minor Prophets. The first time I read the Prophets, I knew I didn't want to be one. It seems to me that they were miserable. Who would invite such a life? But something happened to me recently. You may have read my post and...

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

Yes, of course, And we should. But this is not license to worship a book at the expense of our relationship with the author. [
