1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 King James Version (KJV)
1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more in love.

2 Because ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

3 Because this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from the works of man:

4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

5 Not in the lust of sin, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

6 That no man go beyond the lust of sin and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

7 Because God hath not called us unto the works of man, but unto the works of God.

8 He therefore that despiseth his brother, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

The subject of 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 is sanctification (the salvation of those yet reconciled with God), meaning that the message is to those who are unsaved. That, if one is to seek God, the ways of men are to be considered the wrong approach.

Sorry, I over looked putting the lust of sin after beyond in the interpretation, it is added now.
And the works of man are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
