You obviously, have not read where God says the works of man are as dirty rags. lol
See Revelation 19:8. This is to be interpreted by Philippians 3:9. The righteousness of faith is fine linen; the righteousness that comes by the works of the law is filthy rags.
Oh wow.
The dirty rags again.
We had a nice discussion about this just yesterday.
Guess you never went back and read the ENTIRE CHAPTER.
Guess it's better to just look upon our works for God to be like
dirty rags.
Context never nullifies the plain meaning of any single verse of scripture.
Likewise, Revelation 19:8 (the topical context of Isaiah 64:6, in contrast) does not nullify the plain meaning of Isaiah 64:6.
You can have fine linen as righteousness, no one is arguing against that. What we are saying is that the fine linen is the righteousness of faith.
Jesus said to clean the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside may also be clean.
Wonder what God thinks about this?
John 14:15
Notice that John 14:15 does not say, "You must keep my commandments in order to maintain your salvation."
It says,
If you love me, keep my commandments.
It is saying that keeping the commandments of Jesus is the natural outcropping of having real love for Him.
So, the established order:
Faith (Galatians 3:14).
Forgiveness and salvation (Romans 5:1-9, Romans 4:1-8, Titus 3:4-7, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 11:5-6)
The love of God being shed abroad in the heart (Romans 5:5, Luke 7:36-50, 1 John 4:19).
This love not being in word or in tongue only, but in deed and in truth (1 John 3:17-18).
This love being the fulfilling of the righteousness of the law within us (Romans 13:8-10, Galatians 5:14, Romans 8:4, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 1:6).
