That's too bad that you never paid attention during Mass because the Bible is read throughout.
It's also a shame that you were too lazy to read the Scriptures on your own..

I, too was raised a Catholic and we read Scripture ALL the time . . .

Well, BreadOfLife,
You did not go to the one I went to, plus I do not think the same years???
Things were way different back then ? I have a girl friend who changed from one C.C.
to another they moved...... and she is saved...... NOW!
After going from grade one to grade 6, I was never told to read the bible.......
Do you think in all those years I was not paying attention ?

I tend to think that lazy clergy in most Christian denominations fall back on fear to motivate......

It is too bad because it is the opposite of faith
Oh yes, they are, unfortunately, most everywhere. The worst ones in my experience were definite not Catholic. It has been too many years since I was a regular practicing Catholic to say a lot about what is happening in the CC today, but I have sampled many Protestant churches. A lot of them I would go back for a visit even though I would not want to become a member. Too many I would never go back even to visit. The Catholic churches in my experience have always been grouped with the Protestant ones that I would at least go back to visit. That is a back handed compliment for the CC if you will.

The only two Catholic priests whose names I can remember were good examples of ministers of God. That is a better report than I could make on the Protestant ministers as a whole.

Yes, I imagine you were forced to do a lot of things.
I know about it.
I've been there.

I met a priest once who became filled with the Holy Spirit.
I'm often wondering if he's still in the RC Church.
I was born again when I was Catholic.
Had to leave the church ,,, I was starving for God and there was nothing for me there.
It's not easy for a priest to leave, he probably stayed and helped others.

It's not the fault of the parishoner if the church is lacking.

It always amazes me that we have the same story, but reversed. There was no spiritual growth in Protestantism - everyday was trying to recreate the first day of salvation Mrs. Havisham wedding day....

One altercall after another.....

I understand. The Mass is beautiful, but no teaching was offered when I got saved. No Bible study.
I wanted to know and understand my faith. The simple answers were not enough, the only contact with the priest was at confession or by special appt. I needed more.

Protestant churches have their pro lems too. Altar calls, splitting, always looking for the right church...
None is perfect.

I attend daily Mass and a Protestant church, along with a Protestant Bible Study

My question in the OP was at the bottom of my post.
OK....That has nothing to do with The Catholic Church.

It has to do with the people of the church you attended and how they were trying to teach you a lesson. There is no Catholic doctrine/dogma about putting money in an envelope and numbering it.

Keeping it real....Mary;)

I admire persons that go to Mass every day.
Here there is only the Catholic Church and I can't get myself to going to Mass anymore. Don't know why.

I have friends that go to mass every day. They feel badly if they miss a day. Sometimes I feel I'm not as good a Christian as they are...

Havnt being to church in a good many years, and do feel i am missing anything, the only thing that annoys me, is that when i get to the bus stop in the morning and I realize I have forgotten to thank Him,"Jesus" for the day and to ask Him to be a part of It. After all He is my Life and my Life is in Him as should all mens lives. I feel sorry for those who go to church because they are missing out on the best things in God, If they would but ask, but so few do.

Going to Mass helps me the most when I am in a spiritual desert......

I go because I am drawn to it, not out of obligation

This is good.
If you went out of obligation, it would be a work.
I'm not one of those that dislikes the word "works".
A work is just something you do because you're trying to please God with your mind instead of with your heart.

Not all who go to church are missing out on the best things in God.
If one goes to a good church, it's a very pleasant experience. You get to thank Jesus that day too but in a special way, you get to see others that believe as you do as you go about your business in this world which is a dry desert, you get to hear the word and rejoice in it.

I'm sorry I go through these periods where I just don't want to go. I think it might be because I don't have a choice here where I live.

I can only put it this way, we are supposed to be the "bride of Christ" His Church a woman. mens churches are the harlot church, she is also a woman, can you see where this is going ,we are supposed to be the wife of our Husband Jesus, not married, Joined to another woman., and if you dont feel like going its probably because of this,

Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Rev 18:5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

JEsus has being calling His people out for years, but so few can hear, and most dont know why, because "church" has not prepared them.

A cake will tatse nice even if you lace it with poison.

Our choice.

1Co_6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
1Co_6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

You believe the above applies to all churches?
