If you mean that this Scripture infers that God is the one directing all mankind to either life or death by a course that he predetermined, then I read that a little differently, as it was a Jewish writer, addressing fellow Jews....Proverbs 16:9
In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.
What is “hell” in your understanding? “Gehenna”? “Hades”? “The lake of fire”? What do these words mean in Greek, that is lost in the English translation? (Like many other things)If someone's course leads to Hell, and they stay on it, that is where they will end up.
If you had STUDIED the Bible you would understand:
Aunty is still trying to twist the HELL out of what Jesus said! Typical JW!If you mean that this Scripture infers that God is the one directing all mankind to either life or death by a course that he predetermined, then I read that a little differently, as it was a Jewish writer, addressing fellow Jews....
So this says to me that we can plan out our actions, but they will succeed only if we allow God to direct our steps. This isn’t about mankind in general. Free will precludes predestination....makes it redundant and the command in the garden meaningless. They had a choice to obey or not to, and God did not prevent the choice or the consequences.
Can you clarify your thoughts in providing this verse?
What is “hell” in your understanding? “Gehenna”? “Hades”? “The lake of fire”? What do these words mean in Greek, that is lost in the English translation? (Like many other things)
It is important to grow in knowledge of God, his Son and his purpose....as remaining in spiritual infancy is exactly where the devil wants us...because he can pretend to be our best friend whilst feeding us his tasty poison.
Most who identify as “Christian” are happy to have others spoon feed them their beliefs, and go through the motions of church attendance, rather than to do their own research.....that is a trap. Knowledge is the power behind our faith....it’s not blind, but fully aware of the importance of deeper understanding than a cursory reading of God’s word may provide. Isn’t that why it is likened to buried or hidden treasure? How big is our shovel? No effort = no results.
Translation: Aunty doesn't have a clue what Jesus said about THE FIRE several times. It beats me how anyone could relish this idea, almost eager to send anyone who disagrees with them to this awful destiny.....and still think of God as loving?
Who but a sadistic fiend would do such a thing?
The Bible never says that he does....all reference to “Gehenna” (erroneously translated as “hell”) is metaphorical.....and his Jewish audience knew exactly what he meant as “Gehenna” featured strongly in their past as a place of fire and torture...but not from God. This is the place where apostate Israel sacrificed their children to the god Molech by putting them into the fire.

God stopped the practice as something abhorrent to him. (Jer 7:30-31)
God commanded that the Valley of Hinnom be converted to the city’s garbage dump, where the fires were kept burning day and night to consume the refuse.
How did this place get mixed up with Christendom’s “hellfire”? Jesus’ reference to Gehenna to a Jew, meant that whatever was cast into Gehenna was never seen again. It was a place where the bodies of those not considered worthy of a resurrection, were cast for disposal....along with the rest of the garbage....it was metaphorical for everlasting death....as Jews did not believe in immortality of the soul, this meant no resurrection, and hence no prospect of ever living again.
When the church adopted the pagan concept of an immortal soul, Gehenna was morphed into the place where the wicked souls would go....”the lake of fire”....but it’s called “the second death” not the second life.
It is not God’s desire to ever give up on anyone as those examples show.....every effort is made to rescue and restore the lost one, (2 Peter 3:9) often portrayed as a young one, as these are more vulnerable to attack by predators. Wolves love the take these precious lambs as they are so defenceless. Baby Christians are also vulnerable....and we all start life as babies...even spiritual babies...then we grow to maturity by being provided the right nourishment.
You should have read God's promises!I don't know which I find more disturbing: The concept that God will burn some of my family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers forever, or "Christians" that are not at all disturbed by this.
Sheesh, some of you sound like you'd love to have a front row seat so you can hear the screams and smell the sulphur while they burn.
And those who delight in the suffering of their neighbors should have had their spirits regenerated. You should have read God's promises!
That would be those who deny what Jesus said about Hell Fire FOREVER!And those who delight in the suffering of their neighbors should have had their spirits regenerated.
The continual justification that God is a unremitting torturer is more the projection onto God of ones own disposition and desires. And those who delight in the suffering of their neighbors should have had their spirits regenerated.
Yet you don't have to worry about it if you place your belief/faith/trust in the death/burial/resurrection of Christ for the forgiveness of ALL your sins >>> 1 Cor 15:1-4, Eph 1:13The continual justification that God is a unremitting torturer is more the projection onto God of ones own disposition and desires.
When one never has the desire to understand, parroting of ones preference becomes the default with the misrepresentation digging its hole deeper at every repeat.
"Can the infernalists here explain the purpose of Jesus's forever torture chamber?"
Are you calling Jesus an 'infernalist'?
Quoting Jesus:
Matthew 13:49-50
49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be SCREAMING and gnashing of teeth.
