The only unconditional thing about Jesus' eternal salvation is unconditional surrender to Him first, then He saves the soul and the life.

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The gospel of Jesus Christ begins with sinners commanded first to repent of all their sinning: Unconditional surrender.

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

The only ones coming to the Father by Jesus Christ are those with the white flag of surrender. The promise is to thus save the soul and the life.

Whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

"
Believe ye the gospel and be converted with all your sins forgiven, and repent ye in due time."

This of course is an alternative gospel of conditional surrender. It is conditional surrender piecemeal down the road. And that surrender is never complete in this life.

It's sinful man discussing terms of surrender to the God and Judge of all the earth. They require He first save their souls forever unconditionally, by believing in Him alone, but their life remains in their own hands with piecemeal repentance unto the grave.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:
