We all remember the Final Destination movie series. People were meant to die but something interfered and they lived, at least for that instance but through the rest of the storyline, they were running from death. If you recall, certain events, all seemingly unrelated, lead up to the event that was supposed to take their lives. Even after dodging death, it eventually got them.
I compared this to actual events that resulted in the deaths of people, sometimes in large numbers. One of the more interesting ones was the instance of the sinking of the "Duck". It was once a military vessel meant for sea-landings. It could operate in the water as well as on land. In the 90's a company retrofitted some of them to be a ride for tourist. One in particular sank just minutes after it entered the water taking 17 souls with it. There were only 5 survivors or so.
After the investigation it was found that 3 separate things contributed to the sinking and the death toll. The first one was the water tight drive shaft came apart allowing water to enter the craft ultimately sinking it. It was later determined that the clasp, that fastens with the turning of a screw, was only two screw turns away from not failing. A mechanic had serviced the shaft just days before and did not fasten it all the way.
Second, a lone pin on the bilge pump was missing so when it engaged to push water out of the craft, it did not function and was unable to eject the water.
Thirdly, just a few years before that, it was required to install bilge pump alarms. This alarm would go off when the pump engaged. This craft never had the alarm installed.
In the end, after all these events transpired, 17 people were dead. So I got to thinking about how unrelated events transpire to ultimately cause greater events which result in the death of people. It's like the butterfly effect. A bird drops a single twig on its way to its nest, causing a kid on a skate board to hit the twig and veer into traffic and getting hit by a car.
A few years back there was a show called Fringe. In one particular episode, a man was so smart he was able to set numerous events in motion with just a ball point pen and was able to end up killing a person he picked. In the show it was referred to as a "Fringe Event" or an event that could not be explained by mans modern and general understanding but rather by something supernatural or not of this world.
So, going back to the sinking of the "Duck", were all these events set in motion to ultimately have one result and that being to take the lives of the people, therefor having a design, or was it just all dumb luck coincidence? Or, are we able to catch a glimpse of God's design? Keeping in mind that others benefit from these deaths as new and better safety standards were developed to ultimately save lives going forward.
