Nice thought but what about Joseph Smith, Jim Jones, Mary Baker Eddy, David Koresh, Ellen White, Mother Ann Lee, the list goes on and on - look at the lives they destroyed and the souls they sent astray with their private interpretation of scripture....

If a person's interpretation of scripture is wrong, then, to the extent that it is wrong, it is not the Word of God! The Word of God is never wrong. The problem that many people have is that they designate the scripture itself as the Word of God. The Word is alive! The written words of scripture are only the dead carcase.

"Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." II Cor 3:5-6

When we have eaten of the carcase [scripture] of Jesus [Jesus is the Word] and drunk of His blood [Spirit] then the Spirit is able to give Life to the portion of the carcase consumed. Then is it the Word of God within us. Then it is alive.

This is reason an avowed atheist can read the Bible with the sole purpose of proving that it is wrong and receive absolutely none of God's understanding. He was reading in the wrong spirit for the wrong purpose. Without the Spirit of God, there can be no correct understanding. This is also the reason why there are so many denominations with opposing doctrines based on the same Bible. People either have only their own understanding or they have a mixture of their own understanding and the understanding that God has given them. These latter ones are definitely still seeing, at best, through the glass darkly, but often saying that they are seeing clearly.

Any one who does not have everything of God's Word alive within him, is such a mixure of Truth and error. If the person with such a mixture does not continue to pursue a love for the Truth, he will receive instead a delusion [II Thess 2:10-11]. Of course, as the scripture also says we all believe that we are right! See Prov 21:2 !
Give God all of the glory always!
