At the end of World War Two, after the defeat of Germany, the US concentrated its resources on the Pacific War against Japan. Then they don't need our help.
Canada organized a vote among its sailors to decide whether they wanted to use the Canadian navy for war against Japan or to continue the home defence approach only - some of the conscripts in the Canadian navy were recruited for home defence; this is why they had the vote on what they wanted to do next. So some of them sailed back to Canada instead of joining the US against Japan.
NZ (in theory a US ally) has been banning US ships from NZ ports because the US won't confirm that the ships don't have nuclear ordnance.
From your comments if widely held, I wonder if the US will adopt Canadian- and NZ-style approaches, when it comes to Taiwan.
