We have here a very special baker’s dozen (13) … not of delicious donuts,
but of Scripture passages which instruct us what is required for salvation.
God’s free gift of grace-faith has provided us with His Spirit to help us,
but now we need to continue on with our part in the salvation process!

Then one said to Him, ‘Lord, are there few who are saved?’
And He said to them, ‘Strive to enter through the narrow gate,
for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.’ (Luke 13:24)

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. …
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord … And then I will declare to them,
‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ ” (Matthew 7:21-23)

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily, and follow Me … For what profit is it to a man,
if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?” (Luke 9:23-25)
This is repeated in Matthew 10:38-39, Matthew 16:24-26, Mark 8:34-36, John 12:25.

Let’s talk about sin

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the
kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire”
(Mark 9:47, Matthew 5:30, Matthew 18:9)

“Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned,
whose corpses fell in the wilderness? … Let us therefore be diligent …
lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.” (Hebrews 3:17-4:11)

You can be “(slaves) of sin leading to (eternal) death, OR (slaves) of obedience leading to
righteousness … so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness
… For the wages of sin is (eternal) death …” (Romans 6:16-23)

“Pursue … holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God” (Hebrews 12:14-15)

Let’s talk more about righteousness

“… whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” (Acts 10:35)

“… let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous” (1 John 3:7)

“And these (who do not do good works) will go away into everlasting punishment,
but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:46)

And let’s not leave out obedience

“… you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether (slaves) of sin leading to death,
or (slaves) of obedience leading to righteousness …” (Romans 6:16)

“He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” (Hebrews 5:9)

“Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? …
But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” (Matthew 19:16-17)

Conclusion: It's all on us now ... with the Holy Spirit inside of us to be our Helper!

Oh, it's another thread preaching salvation by works. Go figure.
I hear you David. The problem is people who adhere to, what should be known as 'salvation by self', believe the rest of us think it's ok to sin or not obey.

Do we not already know we are to die to self, pick up our cross, obey, avoid sin? Of course we do! It's just that we put Christ on, He lives in me and it is He who is doing the transforming - not us. The most difficult thing to do is submit, strive to enter His rest and then we are submitted to be used by Him.

It's not complicated as some people would like to make it.
