Hi there,
So you had it, you chose to believe and you threw everything in; it was easy, it was light and you loved it. Then trials and tribulations came along and you started to doubt. Doubt turned to complacency (a lesser evil) and complacency to a deadness in your spirit. Then you quit. It was all a waste and you didn't know how to turn back. But that wasn't the end.
Like the prodigal son, you realised that what you had was actually pretty good. You started to weigh returning to the faith, but the Devil came in hard and suggested that if you fell away at all, it was "likely" that you always would. There seemed like there was no argument, no way back. You despaired and could do nothing of faith. But that wasn't the end.
Suddenly it dawned on you, as Solomon said "mourning for what the days once were, is not good", but faith was unchanging. The answer was to thank God for the beginning of your salvation, to put how it started out in His hands. If it is up to God how your faith starts out, you will never lose hope! Indeed nothing is stopping you from praising God for the starting out of faith in your life, from now to the end! If you learn to keep up faith, what can the Devil take from you? Only what is God's? But God won't allow it!
The reality is, you need conviction and you need momentum. Stopping praising God, will kill your faith; but praising Him daily, for whatever your hope was and indeed whatever you have got left, will deliver you. Not because you are good, but because God is good: He remembers what your faith was and what was lost as you struggle to have faith - God was with you in the struggle! Remember Jacob? This is the power of commitment, you never lose it! If you need anything else, it is wisdom to hold your faith together. Going to and fro will stop, with the compassion of the Lord.
Essentially what is being said here, is that you need to trust the power of God. If you once believed, confess it; then, when your witness is bold, you can leave confession behind you. Learn to back yourself and to start from a position of strength, not a position of doubt or uncertainty. If you didn't have that much faith when you started out, praise God for the little you had and keep praising Him. If you sow, so shall you reap!
I hope this has been of some encouragement to you.
God bless.
EDIT: In reality if you are not able to judge your own life at all, consider letting the Holy Spirit tell you where to start?
