Is Jimmy Swaggart a false prophet? Who else do you consider a false prophet? What are your views on miracles too? How can you tell if they’re false or not? Like the miracle of Fatima. What about nuns and monks?
This topic is open to anyone but
@TLHKAJ can I get your thoughts on this? Or we can discuss in private if you prefer?
Hello
@GaryAnderson
I don't know of any false prophet personally for I am not mixing in Christian circles: but your OP has brought to my remembrance a portion of Scripture I turned to and read one evening last week. It was Ezekiel 13, which had obviously caught my eye on a previous occasion, for I had underlined and written in the margin against certain verses. It concerns the false prophets of Israel: who prophesied
'out of their own hearts', and,
'followed their own spirit, and have seen nothing!' (Ezekiel 13:2-3). They also do nothing to protect the children of Israel in the event of battle(vv. 4-5) because they promise them peace, leaving them open to attack from the enemy.
* Verses 6-7 tell us that these false prophets have seen, 'vanity and lying divination', saying, 'The LORD saith' 'and 'the LORD hath not sent them:' 'They have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.' Which is a tragedy isn't it? God says to them, 'Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, 'The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken'. They have, 'spoken vanity and seen lies' (v.7). They 'seduced' the People of Israel, saying, 'Peace', when there was no peace. Verses 8-16 show how God is against them, and how He will act against them, He will deliver His People from them.
* Further on there is a strange passage, yet as has previously been said, it shows how these false prophets act, and what they claim, which could be useful in identifying false prophets in this day.
* In Ezekiel 13:17-23, it appears that these false prophets were, '
the daughters of thy people', which '
prophesy out of their own heart'. Verse 18 onward, shows that these women sought to hide from the People the hands of Jehovah which were lifted up and stretched forth in judgment (Isaiah 26:11, Isaiah 52:10). This is portrayed figuratively in these verses, but they sought to conceal from the People what the Lord was doing. Hiding Gods hands, as it were, so that they would not perceive the judgments of God which were to come upon them. Hiding their eyes, especially the eyes of those in authority, the rulers in Jerusalem.
'They made the heart of the righteous sad, whom God had not made sad, and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life.' (v.22) So, they promise peace, instead of warning against God's impending judgment, and promise life to the wicked, instead of showing him his wickedness that he may repent and escape God's wrath.
* This makes me think of the enemy of our souls, who masquerades as an angel of light in order to deceive. By their fruits you shall know them.
I hope this is helpful, I found it so. :)
Thank you
In Christ Jesus
