What is stated in the OP has its origin from Satanism which said that the earth was made void by God because of His jealousy of Satan in his creative work. Believers should not allow for such ideas being inserted into His words to sow doubts for the evolution theory when they shouldn't, considering its origin.

Do consider that you are going beyond what scripture said and if you follow the creation week, earth did not have a form until day 2 as a water planet with an upper atmosphere and the one land mass appeared on day 3 of the now fully formed earth. Then day 4 was when the celestial bodies were created ( the heavens ) that served as the source of those lights in the heavens to God filled the gap with those lights to govern the earth that day.

So there was no earth as it was without form for what void means; empty; not as being emptied of by how man use void today.

And then if you read further in John, he begins calling the Word, the Light. And since this is days before the sun and moon, this Light is Jesus. And if Jesus is the Light, who is the darkness?

you're correct, and so close to the answer.. Light have several meaning. scripture, 1 John 1:7 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin". is this talking about natural "Light", no of course not, it's speaking of KNOWLEDGE understood. now this, John 8:12 "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life". walk in darkness, is this about natual darkness, of course not, it's speaking of the LACK of KNOWLEDGE, or Ignorance. One thing is a spiritual matter. The next thing is the temporal, which...retells and shows Gods glory. You cannot make that first darkness and light to be about created things that were not created yet. There's always a lot of mystery, but there are also clues and the beginning of John shows that the 1st light spoken of Is Jesus.

How do you explain the request for man to be made in "our" image and after "our" likeness, and this was specified that it was on the 6th day when God created man and woman?

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

There is no way to interject the creation of man on day 3 just because of what you read into in Genesis 2:4-25, and especially when there is no mention of the creation of man on day 3 in Genesis 1:9-13 .

Since God is looking for a helpmeet for Adam on day 6, then forming the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air that day to see what Adam would call them when fowls were created first on day 5 and the animals on day 6, then God was remaking these beasts of the fields and the fowls of the air from the grounds in that Garden of Eden to see what Adam would call them while looking for his helpmeet, but Adam & Eve were created on day 6.

That is the only way to align the truths in His words.
