How do you know you have received The Holy Spirit?

It's simple brethren, by belief on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, The Christ.

Those who speak a gibberish tongue try to say that if you don't speak gibberish like they do, then you don't have evidence of The Holy Spirit. That is a LIE. Some are even trying to say you must SEE The Holy Spirit as fire lighting upon you!

Here is what God's Word says...

John 3:8
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof,
but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
KJV

1 Cor 12:3
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed:
and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
KJV

Evidence is in the fruit we produce, if we have no love, joy, peace, long suffering, self control, etc. Then who's spirit do we have? We don't always walk in the Spirit and we can stumble. We are not always filled with the Spirit and can slack with our prayer life, bible study and worship. During those times I repent for lack of fervency. Also, we are after all, sealed by His Spirit. God is a God of order and I have been in some very OUT of order church's and, couldn't wait to get out of there. Been to very dry church's, lacking any movement of God's Spirit...and have been in wonderful church's where all comes together beautifully.
I won't put God in a box as He can and does do what He wants, nothing will thwart His plans. :)

If the "born again" is the same as the "born from above" or "born of God", is not the answer to the OP question here?

1jo 5:1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
1jo 5:2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1jo 5:3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
1jo 5:4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1jo 5:5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Jesus overcame the world.

Joh 16:33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

And do we not see the result of overcoming described here?

Re 2:7...To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Re 2:11...He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Re 2:17...To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
Re 2:26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
Re 3:5He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Re 3:12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Re 3:21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

It is helpful to constantly pray, as Paul instructed (1 Thessalonians 5:17), I believe.

We know we have the Holy Spirit more than we know anything. It begins with humility and proceeds with submission of your will.

I don't do things for self-aggrandizement but for the glory of God. And I yearn to serve him more and better.

:)

So did God have love, joy, peace, long suffering, and self control when He commanded the Israelites to literally wipe out the nations of Canaan that He listed?

Deut 20:16-18
16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance,
thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God.
KJV

When Lord Jesus rebuked the money changers in the temple, was He using love, joy, peace, long suffering, and self control? Lord Jesus even used a "scourge of small cords", which is a type of whip.

John 2:13-16
13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,

14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:

15
And when He had made a scourge of small cords, He drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not My Father's house an house of merchandise.
KJV

As one who stays in God's Word may learn, there are events even by our LORD that show 'righteous indignation' against evil doings, and thus a REBUKE against evil doings is justly warranted. The working of God is not always like hippie-peace-love-dove type attitudes.

Even Apostle Paul told Timothy to REBUKE sinners in the congregation; and to even do it in front of the congregation for all to see...

1 Tim 5:20
20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
KJV

Look up that word "again" above in the Greek, and tell me what you find.

You skew. We are NOT Him. He does as He deems fit and always for GOOD. The OT were under the Law, not grace and The Holy Spirit was not given until AFTER Jesus ascension.
There is such a thing as "righteous anger" and that is what Jesus did in the temple, as the people were in essence, blaspheming The Father with all the money changers and those who bought from them all.
God reserves some things for Himself, as humans cannot be trusted to rightly to say, seek vengeance "Vengeance is mine saith The lord" Does that take away from His love? His peace?

"The working of God is not always like hippie-peace-love-dove type attitudes."

I never said this and BTW this IS a thread about The Holy Spirit so, I answered and gave my take. You have said not a thing about what this thread is all about. So, why are you belittling what I have said??

So you mean Apostle Paul skewed when he told Timothy to REBUKE sinners in the congregation before all?

What did Apostle Paul do about the sinner among the congregation of Corinth in 1 Corinthians 5 that was having sex with his own mother?

What did Apostle Paul say in 1 Timothy 1 and Galatians 5 about those who don't walk by The Spirit, but by their flesh instead?

2 Tim 4:2-4
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
KJV

As soon as Christ's enemies began creeping into the Church, they began pushing Liberalism and lack of discipline in the Church, which has been allowed for so long, that today many Church leaders no longer try to discipline their congregations per the measure in The Word of God, but instead by the world's Socialist standards.

You see, anyone can get up behind a pulpit and preach love-dove-peace and totally disregard the strong meat things written in God's Word, and attract hordes of folks that come just to hear they've been saved. And most of them don't want to hear 'rebuke' or be disciplined when they deserve it, or they'll leave and go somewhere else.

I already did that. Was not an acceptable definition contained in the first question I asked? Should I reword it so that it is not a question saying , born again means born from above or born of God?

As to your third paragraph, I do not speak a "gibberish tongue". I speak rather as the Spirit gives me utterance. I won't argue with you as whether my testimony is true or not as God is the One who knows and He is the One who whose judgment matters.

I honestly do not know what you are on about Davy. THe OP is a question, if you don't agree it bothers me not at all.
Where did all the questioning about "correction" come from? And all the lovey-dovey stuff?? I mentioned nothing about those subjects. Can we please stick to the OP?

What is The fruit of the Spirit?
ce68043dfc2a0a3ba171431a94d0529c.jpg
And how do I know He is in my heart?

Gal 5:14-26 (NKJV) 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self-control. Against such, there is no law.
And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, or envying one another.

The Fruits of Love

1 Corinthians 13:1 (NKJV) Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

John 3: 16 For God so loves the world, that He gave his only begotten Son.

The Fruits of Joy
Romans 5:2 (NKJV) through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
1st Peter 1:8-11 (NKJV) who have not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

The Fruits of Peace

Romans 5:1-6 (NKJV) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

The Fruits of Longsuffering

1st Cor 13:4-8 (NKJV) Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

The Fruits of Patience. Slow to speak and slow to anger

1 Tim 1:15-16 (NKJV) This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
However, for this reason, I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe in Him for everlasting life.

The Fruits of Kindness

Titus 3:4-5 (NKJV) But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

The Fruits of Goodness

Romans 15:9-16 (NKJV) For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, And sing to Your name."
And again he says: "Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!"
And again: "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples!"
And again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope."

The Fruits of Faithfulness

Mark 16:15-20 (NKJV)"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.
but Judah yet ruleth with God and is faithful to the saints.

The Fruits of Gentleness

2 Cor 6:4-7 (NKJV) But in all things, we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses,
in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fasting; by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

The Fruits of Self-Control

Luke 22:41-42 (NKJV) And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed,
saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done."

What is The fruit of the Spirit?
Isaiah 1:29-31 (NKJV) For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen. For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades, And as a garden that has no water. The strong shall be as tinder, And the work of it as a spark; Both will burn together, And no one shall quench them.

The word Terebinth represents both the sacred trees Isaiah 1: v. 29)

Isaiah 1:29 (NKJV) For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen.

And the strong, dominating rulers of Israel. The work of it is perhaps a reference to the injustice of Israel’s tyrants (Isaiah 1: v. 23),

Isaiah 1:23 (NKJV)Your princes are rebellious, And companions of thieves; Everyone loves bribes, And follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, (5:12).

Isaiah 5:12 (NKJV)The harp and the strings, The tambourine and flute, And wine are in their feasts; But they do not regard the work of the Lord, Nor consider the operation of His hands.

no one shall quench: God will rid His creation of the proud through His gracious, purifying judgment.

Isaiah 2:1-5 (NKJV) The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains And shall be exalted above the hills, And all nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk In the light of the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 (NKJV) Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.

To quench the Holy Spirit means to resist His influence, like trying to smother a fire. One of the fundamental rules of walking with God is that we should not say no to the Spirit of God.

To grieve the Holy Spirit is to continue to sin.

Do not put out the light of the Spirit;

Do not make little of the words of the prophets;

Ephesians 4:25-32 (NKJV) Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another. "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. 28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

The Holy Spirit of God should never be pushed away, ignored, or rejected. If we would remember that the One who lives in us is God’s own Spirit, we would be much more selective about what we think, read, watch, say, and do. Note that Paul acknowledges that evil thoughts and actions are temptations even for those who are sealed by the Holy Spirit.

Who said they disagreed.

Looks like you're just hunting someone to argue with. Try someone else.

I honestly do not know what you are on about Davy. THe OP is a question, if you don't agree it bothers me not at all.
Where did all the questioning about "correction" come from? And all the lovey-dovey stuff?? I mentioned nothing about those subjects. Can we please stick to the OP?

I have just been pointing out that our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ have emotions just like us. He gets angry at times too, at unrighteousness, especially when someone messes with His elect. And likewise we as His servants do too, and that does not mean that anger, or 'righteous indignation' is a bad thing.

But with today's Socialist thinking, we're not supposed to even 'rebuke' someone when it's needed, including our own children.

Thus what I am "on about" is showing a contrast between peace-love-dove attitude vs. righteous indignation in being a little salty for Christ Jesus. I'm ex-military so a little saltiness works wonders if properly and fairly used.

Greetings
if I may

What is The fruit of the Spirit?
View attachment 33977

1st Cor 13:4-8 (NKJV) Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

So WORLD SOCIALISM wins, huh? No rebuke, no correction, etc., allowed in Christ's Church??? That's basically what you guys are saying with not understanding 'righteous indignation' which caused even Apostle Paul to REBUKE and CORRECT the brethren when needed, especially in 1 Corinthians 5 when Paul strongly rebuked the leaders at Corinth for not taking care of the problem of that one among them that was having sex with his own mother...

And in case you guys can't figure out what Paul is doing below, he is REBUKING the Church leaders there at Corinth for not casting that wicked member out of their Church! Paul even calls them "puffed up", and that their "glorying is not good".

1 Cor 5
5 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

No, not wanting to argue at all, but simply to let readers know that there are people who serve God without being where you are.
