The women and the men who were disciples of Jesus did not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead until Jesus appeared to them.
Even, then they were not Christians. They were still jews.
Jesus' gospel did not come into effect until the apostles were given the power of the Holy Spirit,
Acts 1:8,
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Acts 2:1-2:3
When the day of Penetcost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting
Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire and one sat upon each of them(apostles).
Now Peter for the first time in Jewish history is going to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the jews,
Acts 2:30-31,
Therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne.
he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the ressurection of Christ, and His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption,
-32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.
-33 therefore being exalted to the right hand of God and having recieved from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you see and hear,
-34 for David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, -35 Til I make your enemies Your footstool.
-36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified both Lord and Messiah.
-37 Now when the Jews heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Do you see that these Jews were not yet Christians?
Verse 37 tells us they have believed the gospel Peter preached to them!
That gospel was that Jesus whom they crucified has risen from the dead!
That same Jesus is in fact their Messiah!
Now the gospel has been Preached to the Jews for the first time in Jewish history,
Peter teaches them that they must obey the gospel of Jesus Christ to become saved born again christians.
-38 Then Peter said to them, Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Jews of Jerusalem and Judea had only been baptized into John's baptism Mark 1:4-5.
Now to become saved Christians they must repent and be baptized into Jesus' baptism.
Notice: these Jews had not received the gift of the Holy Spirit!
How could those in Luke 23:54-56, already be christians when they had not believed and obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ, nor did they have the gift of the Holy Spirit?
Jews were first called Christians in Antioch! Never back in the gospels of Mathhew, Mark, Luke and John!
Acts 11:26,
And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
