LOL!If the majority of Christians believe something to be true, can we assume it's true?
If the majority of Christians believe something to be true, can we assume it's true?[/QUOTE
Not unless you can line it up through scripture...IMHO.
So if 95% of Christians believe something is true, does that make it true?LOL!
"Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts." Prov. 21:2
"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?" John 6:66
If the twelve had chosen to go away as well, would they being with the majority have made Jesus walking alone among men wrong?
LOL... it does seem that more than a few people live for God that way today, doesn't it?
Every denomination considers themselves the "majority" and are pleased when they meet others who agree with them.If the majority of Christians believe something to be true, can we assume it's true?
People debate things, and one side will provide this set of scriptures to prove their point, and the other side will provide their set.Not unless you can line it up through scripture...IMHO.
But there are some things the vast majority of Christians believe to be true. Are we to assume those things are true?Every denomination considers themselves the "majority" and are pleased when they meet others who agree with them.
Yikes...Holy Spirit Come!!!
No! If it is true it is because it is of God... without regard to what even 100% of men might say or believe. So if 95% of Christians believe something is true, does that make it true?
Too often it may be that there are people on both sides speaking without being led by the Holy Spirit. Either the Holy Spirit is not in them, or they are quenching the Spirit in favor of some other spirit.People debate things, and one side will provide this set of scriptures to prove their point, and the other side will provide their set.
Possibly. Always ask "Is this confirmed by Scripture?"So if 95% of Christians believe something is true, does that make it true?
Amen... come Holy Spirit and lead me!Every denomination considers themselves the "majority" and are pleased when they meet others who agree with them.
Yikes...Holy Spirit Come!!!
Have you ever been part of the 5%?No! If it is true it is because it is of God... without regard to what even 100% of men might say or believe.
I suspect there are some who follow the Holy Spirit and others who follow there egos.Too often it may be that there are people on both sides speaking without being led by the Holy Spirit. Either the Holy Spirit is not in them, or they are quenching the Spirit in favor of some other spirit.
My dad once told me you can find almost anything you want in the Bible.Possibly. Always ask "Is this confirmed by Scripture?"
Never assume...always test everything...does it line up with the Word? Is it supported by scripture? Does it bear the right fruit? But there are some things the vast majority of Christians believe to be true. Are we to assume those things are true?
Have I ever been right in the things of God? Yes, but I would not attempt to place a percentage on it as opposed to percentages of errors.Have you ever been part of the 5%?
So therefore let us agree on the main principle which is the Gospel of Jesus...after that let each person work out their own salvation with fear and trembling...Phil 2 (NKJV)Have I ever been right in the things of God? Yes, but I would not attempt to place a percentage on it as opposed to percentages of errors.
What is faith?
There is no error in what I know... but what is that? I cannot say the same for what I believe.
I believe and I know some things of God. Until I am able to always see Him "face to face" rather than as "through a glass darkly", I am unable to draw the line in myself between what is known and what is believed...nor should I presume I am able to correctly draw such a line in anyone else. Of course, like everyone else, I believe that I am right. That is the carnal me... or?
Nope. God is a mystery to man. He has revealed things to me that no man knows except me.If the majority of Christians believe something to be true, can we assume it's true?
Amen, Sister! Verses right to the point! So therefore let us agree on the main principle which is the Gospel of Jesus...after that let each person work out their own salvation with fear and trembling...Phil 2 (NKJV)

¹² Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
¹³ for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Rom 14 (NKJV)

⁴ Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
⁵ One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.
⁶ He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
⁷ For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.
⁸ For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.
…
²² Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.
²³ But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.
