What language did Romans primary speak?

The NT letters were read in the churches and then passed on to others, meaning they were not intended solely for the congregations to whom they were sent, and the ancient world was not speaking Latin yet as much as they were speaking Greek. This would have been particularly true of what languages the Jews spoke, who would have been first and foremost in the apostle's minds as far as proper authorization was concerned.

Look, I need to go as well, but I am not averse to there potentially having been a miscommunication in the meaning if a particular verse. But if so, where are you going with this, i.e. what is the import of Jerome's reading on a theological level.

I will give it thought when I come back.

Latin has not definite article, which makes many very important passages as "indefinite"

John 1:1, In principio erat Verbum, et Verbum erat apud Deum, et Deus erat Verbum

Can be translated as "in the beginning was Word, and Word was with god and Word was god"

The Greek is

Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν λόγος, καὶ λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ θεὸς ἦν λόγος

there are FOUR uses of the Greek article, and none in Latin!

So then why would the Disciples add it to the holy Gospels? If it was only for them.
Why tell the rest of the Church?
Not very logical.

They didn’t God did and to prove that Jesus was God because He gave a prophecy with a date attached to it.

Fact is fact it happened when Jesus said it would happen.

God the Holy Spirit, Who Inspired the Writers of the New Testamant, chose Greek as the language for the New Testament, and not Latin, even though Latin was spoken at this time!

What language did out Lord speak to Pilate?
What 3 languages did Pilate use on the sign on top of the Cross?

You are avoiding all my questions because you cannot think for yourself.

You are simply repeating what you were taught at bob's backyard Bible academy.

When was Corinth rebuild? 44AD
By whom? The Romans.
What language did the Romans speak? Latin.
When did Saint Paul send his letters? About 50-54 AD.
What the difference in years? Between 6-10 years.
Could Saint Paul speak any language? Yes.
Did Saint Jerome make a mistake? No.
See, it's so simple.

Why would our Lord give the gift of tongues? If everyone, as you claim, was speaking Greek?

There is no logic in your statement.

Where in the Bible does it read ONLY Greek?

It's so simple.

What i have written i have written , said pilate . The three main languages were GREEK , hebrew and latin .
Greek had long been in the land . Latin under Rome came later . much later .
Thus my best guess , and it is a guess , is that the majority spoke in greek , though they often knew at least two langauges .

And ps , my best guess is that due to the fact THE RCC took over , jerome was simply translating
the greek into latin . Just as others like tyndale , wckliff were doing so in english . Just as wutenberg was doing in german .
But what do i know , i IS just a lil babe .

Ps , i would not heed augustine doctrine my friends . Though it can come clothed with some truth , Great dangers are in it .
Let us stick to our bible and learn that JESUS well . As well as all things the apostels left in letters in the bible .
Jesus never said lest ye become wise as scholars . Lest ye be converted as CHILDREN ye shall in no way enter into the kingdom of heaven .
TOO many scholars , who had not the keys , have led folks astray and often try and down play The Bible , or twist stuff .
Seems they are always learning but never able to come to the simple truth .

Wow, you are a Master!
Please teach me! Said no one ever...
Prove one danger that Saint Augustine taught. Now focus, just one.

Just stick to the facts. Latin texts existed before Saint Jerome.
So what was your point?

The last time i read on what he taught, in the library , was many years ago .
I think he had one thing right though , when it was either HE or JEROME that said
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH is the WHORE . One of them had that right . They sure did .
We must flee such places and let us return to the simplicty in Christ .
