The Haka is a deeply spiritual outward expression of emotions and thought combined with action. Only men lead perform Haka and If you have ever had the privilege of seeing one live, you will never forget the experience...

kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui,"
Be strong, Be brave, Be patient and Take Heart.

Blessings!!!

Imagine if a Christian felt as deeply about a fallen fellow believer...

I would love to experience a Haka... I shed tears when I am present for a 21 gun salute to an American serviceman being honored at their burial and as the honor guard fold the flag for their fallen comrade to present to the family.

Indeed Andy, I agree...it would be awesome to send our brethren home in a manner that is fitting as a soldier of Christ. I hope one day you will experience a Haka as well...I always cry when one is performed, specially for funerals.

Bless ya!

Andy was just pointing out the various ways that our countries honor comrades who have fallen during military action or when on duty and wished that we had some kind of similar thing to honor our brother's and sisters in Christ.

It is very difficult to explain a culture in a post unless you have spent time in this country. The Haka is a cultural thing [just as the American servicemen saluting their comrades with the 21 gun salute is a cultural thing]

There are various kinds of Haka performed according to the occasion. You may have watched the NZ AllBlacks play international Rugby. They will always begin with a Haka. The purpose is to challenge and psyche out their opponent. [It is a war challenge]

The NZ army and other military forces also perform the Haka to farewell their comrades. It is a deep outward expression of their loss put to action. The language is indigenous to NZ [Maori]. :)

Shalom!!!

And we will be placed on high
Silver fern!

All Blacks!

Haka was practiced by the Maori
Maori
1. A member of a people of New Zealand, of Polynesian-Melanesian descent.

It is said to be the Maori war dance but I'm sure their are different opinions.

It would seem the infantry Haka is very similar
Translation for the OP video is printed here.

Thanks for the explainations .... it confirms my original impression that it was some kind of pagan ritual that has an angry tone to it..... thus my confusion how it could relate to a christian send-off

Most of the Christian funerals I have attended are much more positive and uplifting than 21-gun salutes , or pagan native dances.

Best wishes

Then you have never been to a veteran's funeral, otherwise you would have keep your ill informed and rude post to yourself.
